YOSHI'S CORNER TOURNAMENT - PART WHATEVER
« Thread Started on Feb 24, 2008, 10:53pm »

I said I was going to try this again and by Xenu I'm going to give it a shot. Considering some people showed interest in a tourney last time, I'm hoping those people will express interest here again.

It's been far too long since a bunch of us YCers ripped up ZSNES or whatever it was and had a riotous time. These community events are no bad thing, right? I'm pretty sure a sizeable portion of people enjoy the vidya gaems here - ie: everyone - so what better idea then a tournament?

As before, the platform we'd most likely be using would be emulation via ZSNES using the netplay functionality. Don't complain that you can't run SNES emulation, I was running it just fine years ago on a 166MHz Pentium 1 with no 3D acceleration. Frankly, if your computer has more processing power than a sack of wet laundry, you're good to go.

Of course none of this is final yet, so this topic will serve as an ideas repository until more details can be ironed out. In terms of games, an idea I was throwing around the chatroom was Kirby's Avalanche. It's easy as anything to pick up because its a colour matching gaem and we all know how easy they are. Also for you keyboard wranglers, don't get into a mess over complex controls because you'll only need around 5 or 6 buttons, maximum. And 4 of those are going to be the arrow keys.

I'm open to suggestions regarding game ideas. Try to keep the ideas open to everyone, as complex games that aren't easy to pick up in a short space of time really won't work very well in this situation. I'm inclined to say that includes Pokemon, too.

A word of warning: Absolutely NO discussion of where to obtain game ROMS whatsoever. This will all be taken care of in due course so don't worry about that. ZSNES netplay will also be explained in more detail closer to the time.

I still vote for Yoshi's Cookie because it's hilarious seeing someone play that when they never have before.

Relatively simple game. Just need to make a straight line of the same cookie all across your playfield.

Wario's Woods for the SNES is a pretty cool game. It's along the lines of Tetris Attack so I think most people could pick it up pretty quick.
I haven't played the game in forever but I think it used only three or four buttons besides the arrow keys.

I'm in agreeance with Garr and Yoshee. Yoshi's Cookie and Wario's Woods are perfect games for a tournament.

Tetris Attack would be good also, but I'd be passing on that one XD. I suck at that game.

I wouldn't mind seeing some racing games in the mix, but there are few really good ones on the SNES that are competitive outside of Mario Kart. If N64 emulation was as good as it should be by now, I'd suggest F-Zero X, or Tetrisphere. Ah well, wishful thinking.

Sorry guys, but I am all for the Kirby's Avalanche! ;D Of course, if I learned how to play Yoshi's Cookie, I would play that too.

I'll cast my vote for Wario's Woods. But I don't really know anything about Yoshi's Cookie. It does seem appropriate. Since this is a Yoshi board. Hmm, it would be AWESOME to have a Meteos tournament. If only, if only...
