I have to agree on Koshi with this one. And actually, I believe that you all do indeed have the right to post links on your sigs and in your sigs alone, the only thing that you are forbidden to do is make a thread out of it to publicly advertise your website! If I remember clearly, a while back while the rules were still under development, the majority of the Administration has discussed this very matter, and agreed that all members have the right to advertise whatever board they create as long as it is on the signature. Timmy may not sign in again for God only knows how long, but as for now, as a veteran member of this board, I clearly without a doubt remember all members having the right to post links in their sigs, therefore it is allowed, for now anyway, we'll have to see what Tim has to say whenever he returns...

I don't believe it's wrong to have links to forums or sites in your signature. It's not like the forums advertised are super popular and active forums that anyone would leave the YC over. But Tim probably brought up this topic because he thought that rule was carried on into the this new set of rules and thought that everyone who advertised their forums in their signatures were knowingly breaking a rule. I guess it's not his fault he made that mistake. I'm also guessing he possibly wasn't notified of the new rule set. But I know that no one will be punished or anything for having forum links in their signatures, especially since it wasn't actually stated in the rules, so don't fret.
You also have to keep in mind that he's having some sort of family problem and that he's currently paying for his own internet (as stated in his dA journal), so he probably lacked a sufficient amount of money for a while and couldn't keep his internet up. *shrugs*

Hmmm =/ but still guys these boards are slowly dieng and that las thing we need is the members we have spread all over the place. Our admins are debating over a site currently to host the boards My site does but it's kinda dead and I need to do some celan up there. I'm not gonna do anything right now. but i urge people not to. Cause I crept on soul boards and saw a thread that something i stole from Yc. If you are not the orginal creator then don't go posting it on others boards. Cause I'm not gonna tolerate it.

There's new posts everyday and tons of topics. It's definitely a big change from some of the other boards I frequent where there's maybe 2 new posts a day. Also, what's wrong with members spreading out? They have a right to go wherever they want and I don't see why they can't post here and in other boards at the same time.

Eh, I believe it's pointless a bit, but anyway - you rather need to slap those people who use extremely huge and terribly looking siggies first, since that's more irritating than have a nice-looking lil' advert (468x60! :)) in you sig about a board or something. :P The last one at least doesn't crush the entire layout... ˘˘ Second thing, even if I just put a link to my blog at my signature (and I bet it doesn't take any traffic from your board, Tim :P), so I really have no business with it - but I suppose just a link to a board in one's siggy can't decrase the number of active members here. Or if it can, then the problem comes from somewhere else ... Like, a board with pointless rules can die easily, duuuh D: </sarcasm> ( counter attack) By the way, if that last affair with Soul didn't take the most of the active members from here to the new boards of Yoshiart (and as we know, it didn't), I think you really don't need to make an issue about siggy ads. It's like, "fearing the nonexistent evil powarrr", harhar.

I don't know where the impression that these boards are dying has come from. I can only guess it might because there are far fewer new members on a constant basis. Well, this is to be little surprise as this is a board of limbo and not really directly connected to a website. But the number of posts or topics don't seem significantly lower and that's what counts. YC used to have a constant influx of new members, but the vast majority never posted at all or vanished within a week or two.

Yes exactly, the boards are far from dead, and what would it matter if we get a ton of new members or not? 95% of all new members are either way too inactive or never post at all. The active members here are usually the veterans who have been loyal and active to these boards since day 1, along with recent and not-so-recent newcomers. So basically, if your meaning of alive means "to get new active members constantly" then basically this board has been dying for quite a long time XD, since even if we get new members, the chances of them becoming active are very minimal.
This board is active around the clock, I come online and check YC everyday (though rarely post) and there is always at least one member logged on and posting. I don't expect YC to ever die for quite a long time as long as We (the members and the Administration in unison) keep it running and lively. Besides, most of the boards advertised in peoples' sigs die in matter of days, perhaps weeks if they're lucky, and Soul's board is completely the least of our worries, he only has recent members on his board, and like no veterans who here are mods and Admins who are active and keep this board in place.

This forum in no way is dying. Members still come and post here on a consistant basis, and we all care about the forum. It doesn't matter how many new members we get; it matters that we're all here looking out for one another. This is still a very prosperous forum, and will continue to be one.

Uhm...I think I advertised one thing once...some sort of 'steal your soul' thing...but there's nothing to do on the link...a big hand comes and says 'your soul's been stolen' and it says this person got that many souls...that's the only advertising.
Lesse...uh, other than that, there HAS been a topic or two on other sites, notably game sites which according to Tim-tim's rule I'm not allowed to state (heh...Tim tim...).
It's really interesting how this rule's suddenly being disputed...I'll just sit back and watch.

I kinda agree with Tim on this one. Whats the point in advertising your site twice? You can already advertise your site via your profile, so if someone becomes interested in it, they can take a look at your profile and see what it's like without pressure.
If you wanted to show people something in public, set a blog up and link your profile to it. People can stop by then and comment as and when they wish without links being shoved in their faces.

I just don't like that because people aren't tempted to look in your profile. And it's not really fair, because it clearly states that because we want our sites to get at least a few members, we are aloud to advertise in the siggies only (the only place too! D:). It deosn't harm this site either- It is only fair.

I personally don't click links in sigs, I'd rather go into the profile if I'm feeling curious. My sites had a few visits too since I put my site in the profile over at the Rose forums. I've not plastered a link to my site in my Sig or anything, and people are visiting because they're curious, which is the best time to catch your member base because they wilfully seeked out a link to your site to see what you've done. They're already interested. It's not the same if it's in your sig because to the average joe, it's saying "omg, look! my site!" because you're specifically requesting them to look. I'll be linking all and any sites in my blog which will be going up soon, and I'll be putting the link in my profile here so people don't feel 'pressured' to visit. Just my opinion. I'm more inclined to click the site url in someone's profile, than the one in their sig, but thats just me. Everyone's different, but I don't belive pushing a link into someones face each time a post from the certain member appears is a very effective way of advertising. While this is going to sound very self centered... I wouldn't impose a rule like this on my own forum because I'd like to think that my forum is popular enough for people to either ignore them, or visit that board/site and maintain their membership at my own board.

I personally don't click links in sigs, I'd rather go into the profile if I'm feeling curious. That or you can also go to any instant messenger and ask your friends about their sites, or your friends can tell you to stop by their site, it's very efficient. But even still, the sigs with links shouldn't be much of a problem really, you aren't shoving the link up anyone's face. No one actually looks at the text in your link, I only look at the pictures, I know it sounds harsh and ignorant, but I usually ignore any text in the sigs, they hold no interest to me at all, same with profiles, unless I feel the need to, I almost never look at anyone's profile, no everyone will actually take the time to click on the link in a sig, if not, actually see the link. Basically, if you put the link in your sig, all you're saying is, "If you are reading this signature, feel free to drop by my site." In my opinion anyway.

People can stop by then and comment as and when they wish without links being shoved in their faces. The links aren't being "shoved into anyone's faces". The link to my board was in 2-size font under my image and was barely noticeable unless a person were to scan every word/image in the thread. I could understand if the link was in +10 font or had a misleading/false title (for example a link that said "yoshi pics!" and led to a message board instead) but there's nothing rude or intrusive about a tiny link. Like I stated before, the board is Tim's so he calls the shots. If he doesn't want us advertising boards in our sigs then that's cool. What I don't agree with is how those of us who had boards in our sigs are being ostracized for a rule that was never clearly stated anywhere on this board (I was never a member of whatever board split off from this one, so it isn't fair to assume new members should know a rule that was used on a previous board). you guys are pressuring people to joni your boards by having them everywhere =/ I find that statement very insulting. Unless we had candy dangling over the links with a giant sign that read "You'll be cool if you join this forum!" then there is no pressure whatsoever. We're not forcing people to click these links and we're not insinuating that they have to join our boards. I feel like I'm being compared to a drug pusher.

I do believe that the authoritarian or threatening way this topic was brought up with was the wrong way to so. Instead of demanding that this be done, asking people to remove them, adding the amendment for the ruling against message-board links in signitures, giving people a reasonble time to alter their links to comply with the new rules and pardoning the people who change within the reasonably set time frame is a better way.
Understand that while some people may not see the small links in signitures as "shoving links in their faces," other apparently do; using the idea that they are being shown links that they are not interested in seeing. This doesn't necessarily rule against putting main websites in signitures, either.
