I was just curious about what kinds of things people are inspired by when drawing or writing things. I'm currently not really inspired at the moment (severe artists block). May aswell get some ideas LEVEL UP ! ! I'm usually inspired by things that have happened to me that day yet i never get round to drawing them (still practising the basics).

Mostly Music, but anything in general has the potential to inspire me. I'm very open minded. Films, cartoons, real life, anything. It's all played a part in stuff I've made.

Same here. Music is the largest factor, though sometimes events and ordinary things that occur to me help inspire. Other artworks, games, TV... it's a big list, but those are the basics

Me? Art and music are the top things that inspire me...
Otherwise I let my mind trail off onto a thought that could inspire me...daydreams always bring out ideas.

Music is a huge proponent of my inspiration. Also, video games, nature, and such. Like PFY, I can be inspired by practically anything.

Music, great artwork, nature... boredom... XD I'm not sure what really inspires me most of the time, sometimes I just sit down and draw. If you need some great inspiration, I suggest tuning into an online radio, maybe something in another language, but make sure it's mostly music you don't hear often. That can be a great inspiration, because it's new and a great stilumant for your brain :3 My personal favorite online radio station is one you can find on Winamp called "Frequence", it's livefrom Paris, France and plays a lot of great music that I already know and love, as well as a lot of great French techno.

All of my characters' personalities come from songs, and I've made a bad habit out of being completely unable to draw unless I have the radio on.Most of my inspiration comes from Metallica songs. If you haven't heard any of their stuff, you really should. They have some powerful lyrics, and they write almost all of their own lyrics. ^_^

Mostly music, like everybody else has said so far, lol. Either that, or I just start fooling around with things in my room.
Recently, I've been taking maybe a line or two from a favorite song of mine and using it to create a picture inspired by it. Take "Kokoro" from Xenosaga: Dur Wille zur Macht, for example. I created the picture "Forbidden Love" using that. ^^;

thoughts just appear in my head, and i build them over time and then finally draw an un-successful picture. i also draw alot of yoshi requests Despite the loss of my hand-eye coordination, I'm still pretty talented at painting words onto grains of rice.

Other people's art. Acually, every single style I've ever had was based off other styles of other people. Isn't that sad? All my art is a mix of different styles LEVEL UP ! !When I see good art I'm like, "I must draw " xD

Usually an idea will form in my head from pretty much nowhere. Then I proceed to think "that'd look cool" then forget about it.

This one NES baseball game with robots inspired me to do robots. Wario Blast and the SMW map screen taught me how to do 3D objects. I picked up drawing myself by thinking it would be cool if I had my own style of drawing people. It totally is.
I used to draw what the moles home would look like in SMW. 2D wars. And all the sprites from various games.

What inspires my art?
Letsee.. Comics, definitely. I love comics and Ultimate X-Men has definitely taken a toll on my drawing style - sketchiness, thick lineart, crosshatching, and general lineart and colors. Also, music sometimes gives me ideas as well. I suppose anime has given me some ideas for the eyes and what-not, but comics is the majority.

Well, my art comes from all sorts of inpirations because I draw so many kinds of things. However, the lastest pic I'm doing is a pic of my character playing football, like last time, but making it more like a football card thanks to all the football cards I've got.

Hmm... What inspires my art?
Well, I do find myself beginning to draw comical pictures due to a particularily funny phrase I read somewhere (or misinterpreted), or some sort of a spam role play with Skye or someone. As an example of the former, I sort of was looking up the definition of 'Affair' on Wikipedia because I wasn't quite sure if I knew the exact meaning of it, and it mentioned Britain's government there. I read it so fast, I thought they had a government branch that supported affairs. ~Is shot.~ I'm now inspired to make some sort of picture based off of that. I bet you're all thrilled to know that. TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! !
Nextly, would be by looking at some awesome art work that has some sort of quality I love to it -- whether it be shading, concept, anatomy, et cetera. Role playing and stories inspire me in a similar fashion.
Music, oh yes. Music tends to give me quite a bit of ideas for poses, concept, and so forth from their tune. That's right, not their lyrics: their tune/melody. I typically don't even care what the song is saying if it sounds good. On most occaisions, I don't even hear the words people are saying in music, but rather the melodic quality of their voice and the music itself.
There's others, but those are the main ones I can think of at present. Hope ya get over your art block. It's evil. And it plagues me a lot. XD

Awesome sources of inspiration Pawy ^^
There are many things that inspire art. Like so many already said, there is always music and other arts to support it. Life itself is one major influence upon art and when you string it together. When I do draw, most of the pictures are derived from feelings or something thats happened. When something striking happens, an article from a book or an old poem can sometimes cause me to think of a pose to draw. Most of them usually focus off an emotion thats rare, I've tried drawing images that writers try to percieve. But, I suppose there is a reason that its in words and not in a picture.
Another source, as many said, that I have felt inspired by is other art drawn from another artist. It can be anywhere or anything thats been done before. American Mcgee's Art was very captivating to me; I loved how he took innocent characters and wripped it from them. The way he captured insanity from such "joyful" characters was just a great thing, I can't explain more into it. The Cheshire cat himself from Mcgee has inspired a lot that I try to draw, especially when there are twisted tattoo's or items on a characters skin. I also pay attention to artists shading and coloring techniques, and sometimes this inspires me to at least attempt to do something along the lines to shade in some piece or something like that.
Music? So many are inspired by the words and lyrics in pieces, but most of the time as I stated in another thread all you need is the melody and harmony. Some songs get you in an adventerous mood, and reflect off your emotions, giving you a rush to draw those. Other songs slow you down, and remind you of hard times and you'll draw off of those. Music just has a way of digging into your mind and bringing up events you'd not always like to remember or would love to. That alone helps when putting together a picture.
When writing, I usually am just inspired by older pieces written in the Renaissance. I'll pay attention to form and how they try to describe the item at which the poem focuses on. Sometimes they are hard to understand, but they give a lot of insight on how you can express yourself. Shakespeare only had about 140 syllables to get his point across. What we write here and now can even be more than that. A mere five sentences can surpass that. It's artist like that who inspire me to try to slow things down a bit and focus in on the subject.
