FINAL EDIT: Yes! I've gotten things underway, finally. Someone has volunteered to DM for me, since I am a fumbling idiot. Come watch at #ycrp in the Yoshi's Corner IRC chat room!
Alright, alright... for those of you who are wondering what is going on now, I've decided to try something entirely new. Obviously, gaming tourneys aren't cutting it because people are being bums and not signing up for some reason. Stupid no-shows, grumblemumble...
But anyways, anger aside, I've decided to do something that people might be more interested in - role playing! However...
This isn't your typical role play. No, no... this is different. For those of you who know what I'm talking about, awesome. For those of you who don't, let me explain...
DnD, or Dungeons and Dragons, is normally a table-top roleplaying game. While there isn't any kind of superior visual graphics or video gaming going on or anything, I find it highly entertaining. There's no graphics on your roleplaying forums, right? But sometimes people have a hard time regulating what characters can and cannot do in a forum RP like that.
With DnD, this problem is solved. Now, you might not know how to play DnD, and yes, it is complicated, but once you play it enough - and you're willing to learn - it becomes second nature. I have here a link which will take you to a nice DnD reference site which includes most of the core rules and teaches you all the terminology and everything - www.d20srd.org. It's better to learn from first-hand experience, however.
I know there's some people who would be interested in a DnD campaign, and I've already spoken to them, but what about the rest of you? Sick of all those godmodders in forum RPs ruining your fun? Can't stand that jerk who blocks and dodges everything? Want something more regulated? Like numbers? (Don't answer that.) Well, this is your chance.
Before I go any further, I want to see how many people would be interested in playing a DnD campaign over the internet with me and some of your fellow YCers. It will be done over MSN, and I have with me a dice rolling program which displays the die-rolling right in the chat log for you. It'll show up like this
You Throw 1d20 and Got : 20
(By the way, if that actually shows up when we play, consider yourself lucky. You'll know why if you play. ;D Also, a d20 is a twenty-sided die)
Very simple. And I can also doodle out battle maps on MSN, as well. So I have all the tools necessary. Now, let's get one thing straight - I am in no way a seriously seasoned DnD vet. One of my friends is trying to get me to learn the ways of the Dungeon Master (the person who controls all aspects of the game besides the people who are playing as the PCs, or the Player Characters), and so I think something basic will help me get me on my feet. For you serious DnDers out there, in no way should you expect a masterfully performed game of perfection by me - this is just for fun, and a learning experience.
When you play, you get to create a new character from scratch - race, class, abilities, etc.. Using Nintendo races is also possible as my friend has set up stats for most of them, including Yoshi and several others. The game is very flexible.
So who's up for it? Feel free to post here and talk about it. Also, if you're interested in an actual graphic game based off of DnD, I highly suggest buying Neverwinter Nights (and Neverwinter Nights 2, if your PC can handle it). www.bioware.com should be the site you should look at. In any case, lemme hear some opinions and thoughts and whatnot.
