I finally finished the polymer clay figure I was working on... I don't even remember when I started it o.O One day long ago, I finished with the sculpting process, and after that the figure spent many months inside a display case (to protect it from dust). And today I happened to have enough time to "fire" it and paint it. Painting was very tough! And I didn't have orange paint for the spikes, so I had to paint them a brownish dark-red. And the green paint betrayed me cause it dried in a shade of green that is darker than I intended... (it looks lighter in the pics than it really is) And it seems that the white paint I used needed some water because it was too paste-y, hence the mess on the eyes and cheeks. Anyway here are some pics...

Nice sculpture there nonetheless, YS.. but where did Yoshi's boots go? I love Yoshi feet. So much. *snuggles the Yoshi's foot* Everyone: Amazingly good sculpture, laddie. I saw the uncolored version long ao, and yes, 'tis quite magical. I sculpted omse long ago too, but it's hardly to the same detail.

Oh, the love of clay...pity we don't have any, I adore sculpting crappy characters and generally pratting about with it (look ma, a HAT! XD). The best I can do is plasticine, because its so much...cheaper...and you dun get dry hands. *shrieks* LEVEL UP ! !
Anyhows, its such a sweet model...I love the overall pose of him, he seems sorta like...'Wheres mah fruit? *puppy dog eyes*' type thang. XD And I love the feet! *huge feet fetish* n___n Its a great sculpture, and a very cool piece of art, well done. *applauds* n_n
By the by, how big is he? I can see he reaches above the spine bit of your swivel chair...but he looks bigger than that. n_n*

That looks great! The spikes look really good in that color too. How long did it take you to do the sculpting? That really is just great though, looks just like Yoshi

Yay, another Yoshi figure. I think the first member to post a Yoshi clay creation was Teh Yoshi! You two have some serious talent! Nice coloring by the way, and the sculpting is phenomenal! ;D

Wait, it was not my intention!! *pulls him back* I used a material called "super sculpey", which is the same material used by professional sculptors (It is used a lot in the movie industry). If you get a hold of some of this material, I'm sure you could easily do the same. Just make sure you buy "Super Sculpey" and not "Sculpey" (normal sculpey is too soft). Me too!! ;D *snuggles foot also* Indeed!! Despite the loss of my lower jaw I still enjoy a high standard of living.! I think this is what I intended when I first made it. But it was such a long time ago that I don't remember very well... >_> He is very small: 3 inches tall, 2½ inches wide. (he looks larger in the pics because those are close-up shots). I did this figure in 3 runs: In the first, I made the basic shape; in the second run, I fixed all the little mistakes and inconsistencies I could find, and added some more details (it was tough to get the figure to be symmetrical); And in the 3rd run I fired it and painted it. All 3 runs lasted around 4-5 hours. It was a LOT of work... True, although by then my model was already waiting inside its display case to be finished. (I didn't want to post an unfinished project, but I have pics if you want to see it in its early stages) I think Teh Yoshi's model was great-looking despite it being done in normal clay (normal clay has its limits). So I would love to see what he can do with super sculpey, especially since he has a lot more time than me for these things (I think...?). Thank you for commenting on my figure! ;D

Awwww! That is adorable! ;D It looks like something that I'd go out and buy from the store or something. It can go right next to my red Yoshi bean bag plushie. =D So full of detail and the shapes are so perfect! It's absolutely godly compared to what I can do. Whee! You know how much I love how you make Yoshi feet! *snuggles feet along with Graedius*

So I would love to see what he can do with super sculpey, especially since he has a lot more time than me for these things (I think...?). Not really . I'm getting severely schooled at the moment, but luckily for me I'll be having a 4 day weekend next weekend. I've seen some super sculpey at my nearest art shop, so I guess I'll give it a shot some day. However, I have no idea how to sculpt things because in my ceramics class, you don't exactly sculpt clay as much as you make hollowed out shapes and stuff, and then put them all together. Sculpting with clay is a bit of a taboo since models wouldn't dry in the kiln if they were solid (and would blow up if they were hollow without some kind of air vent). There are three basic shapes you can do, and that's slate (flat out rolled clay), coil (a rolled out elongated piece of clay), and pinch pot (just like a bowl or half of a hollow sphere). (I think there's three). With those, you can virtually make anything. For example, the Yoshi nose was made out of a perfect sphere consisting of two pinch pots fused together. The body was made with two round pinch pots, and a pointed pinch pot for the stubby tail, and some cylinder thing (rolled from a slate) for the neck. These are the methods I was taught, and I'm not for certain how super sculpey would work. I've never touched the stuff before, let alone heard of it before this very thread .

Oooo... Sculpture-ism!
Very cool, it looks great painted! Are you going to put a glaze over that to try and preserve it? Paints can get a little evil on clay from what I've heard, especially as time goes by. ^^;;

W00t!! You had to learn all that just to work with clay? *dies* If so, then super sculpey really beats the hell out of normal clay. You don't need to make it hollow to prevent it from exploding, you don't need to shape it in one of 3 shapes (any shape will do), and you don't need a kiln (normal home oven is fine). The advantages are tremendous. Oh and it stays pliable if stored in a cool place, which means you can keep improving your figure till you're satisfied. and it's shatter & chip resistant after it's baked. After baking, it can be carved, sanded, or drilled. It's incredible stuff, really. See here: www.sculpey.com/Products/products_poly_supersculp.htmI think I'll just leave it as-is, if it does deteriorate then I'll just re-paint it. ^^

i made one out of fimo ( to those who dont have an idea what it is, its basically like plastacine, but it goes hard in the oven. cool) for a school project in year 8 (i have GOT to get out more ) i know it sucks, i FORGOT the tail and had to make one later, the boots look rectangular, and you see the cheeks? i make a little mistake. i went too far over, and i only noticed later, so it was a bit brittle when i trimmed it, hense the raggedness. (ill have teh pic up as soon as my brother gets MY digicam off of his mate ) and yes i love yoshi feet too! *joins crowd*
