DA Version: www.deviantart.com/deviation/40285190/Meh, I got photoshop again. What has it been, about 8 months? I have it back, and for now, it looks like I'll have it for a while. So then, what you're seeing here is my first attempt with photoshop since way back. The lineart, you'll notice, is actually from the sketch (I was too lazy to ink it). After reading up on a few tutorials, I leard a few basic coloring techniques, which resulted in this. Not my best attempts, nor my favorites. So, this time, I tried making some of the lines thicker then others. That was newer for me, and it took a long time to get right. Somehow, I managed to get it right, after a long time. As you can see, I need to work on postures very severly too. As soon as I come up with them, that is. It's hard for me to draw alternative posture, so I think I may make praticing that a sort of project for a while. ...so yeah, that's it. Please, I could use as much critique as possible.

The hair is good, but the ship doesn't look enough like wood and in some area's a little blurry. Keep the good work up

Very very nice! Now I'm going to kill myself for never using photoshop, I have it but never use it.
This looks really great. I'm loving that water, the smooth lines of blue in it make it a cool effect. The reflection in the water is a very nice addition too. The smooth shading is also great and pleasing to the sight. XD And to top this description of my liking off, your style of drawing yoshi is very cute (like always). I can't really point out anything that is wrong with it, so I'm not help with critique. Awesome Job Leo!

Like I said before, your style is very creative and original ^^. This picture is excellent, you really got the details right on point. The reflection in the water is awesome.
The shading looks a bit grainy, however, it is still a great piece of art.

Oh no, I made this five-paragraph-long reply on how this looked yesterday! And it's gone...
The effects on the water, his hair, the grass, and his eyes are nice. The different-thickness lines gave it a nice, memory-feel. I like that compass, too. The Majestuosa is beautiful. Oh, and I like the fact that you made his tail pointy. It looks more like a tail now.
His glasses don't look like they have lenses, though, because they don't reflect or anything. His chin comes out too far; it looks like an underbite or something. His pack also looks like it's just one piece, since there's no shading or anything distinguishing the distance between the pack behind his back and the strap in front of his arm. His shoes are also pretty flat, and they look too small.
The water is awesome. Keep doing that, haha.

Welp, I pretty much agree with what's been said. I'd like to add that maybe you can add a soft blur to the ship, since it's in the far distance. Also, it looks like the coloring of the water sort of overlaps with the grass. Fixing that would make it look much cleaner. It looks like the horizon can use some smoothing out, as well. All in all, it's still a really nice piece. Just some improvements need to be made here and there. You keep up the good work!

Wowza... I oughta read that huge photoshop book that's collecting dust. I have to stop being lazy and maybe I'll get CLOSE to what you people are doing!
Everything's so nice in here... and it looks like Leo's a cute little kid :3
Wow, and the detail... the egg... the eyes... the grass..... the compass... wow.

Very nice. I like the proportions of the character; it's very Yoshi-like.
There are a few things that bug me, though... The ship's reflection, realistically, shouldn't be squashed like that. It wouldn't be like a shadow, projecting on the surface, but rather as though the entire ship were inverted underneath itself. ...if that makes any sense at all. And I know the lens flare is a fun filter, but it is also the quintessential tacky Photoshop newbie filter. I'd simply advise against using it.
Anyway, it's a cool piece. And, as always, I think that ship is awesome.

Ah, thank you all for the critique! Yes, I'm well aware it has it's flaws, though I'm glad that you all took the time to let me know. Like I said, this was a test attempt, so it's nowhere near high-quality just yet.

Well that's odd, I could have sworn that I left a post here... I wonder what happened to it? Well here it is again: Since I'm not much of an artist, I don't know how helpful this post will be, but here goes: *running a high resolution sensor sweep from top to bottom* The hair texture is quite real looking and well shaped The eyes are shiny, perceptive, and intelligent looking. The compass is a great addition to show that you have leadership (because a compass points the way and the leader...well leads, etc. etc. *rambles on*) The ship in the background (the Majestuosa I believe) is well detailed and it should stand out in the picture just like you portrayed it. Some people have mentioned that the wood isn't very real looking but I do not think that it distracts much from the overall presentation. The only thing unusual about it is that there are no board lines in it. The grass is very realistic and has depth, I wonder how you managed to get all of those blades so... well positioned. The reflection in the water is a very professional touch that adds to the overall presentation. The reflection's length depends on the positioning of the light so I can't tell how short or long it needs to be. The character's shape is well constructed, especially the hands which fit perfectly, except that the feet look slightly out of proportion compared to the rest of the body, although that may just be me going cross-eyed because I've been staring at a monitor all day! But I think the part I like the most is the expression on your character's face. He appears to be very confident, happy, and proud which are the exact feelings you should have for this picture, nicely done Leo! Analysis complete, you have an extraordinary picture here congratulations again Leo! Now I'll stop sounding like I know more than I really do about art!
