Yesterday I got a little bit of info from my cousin saying that Nintendo is converting the game controls on SSBB from using the Wii Remote to using the Nintendo Gamecube controllers. My only guess is that it will make the controls for the game more efficient and easier to use at the same time. So don't put away your gamecube controllers just yet. XD

Yeah, I figured they'd do that. It's good, that way all the players who are good don't have to take too long to readjust. I couldn't imagine playing it with the Wii-mote anyway, too awkward. I hope they'll create a new shipment of GC controllers for it, though. Mine are starting to wear out...

You mean they weren't using Gamecube controls from the very beginning? I guess they could try and figure out how to use the Wii remote and everything, but I honestly think it makes much more sense to use the Gamecube controller for Smash Bros.. At least, more than the remote XD
At any rate, this is still cool news, as it's a somewhat unofficial confirmation of something I was hoping for LEVEL UP ! ! But I do hope they bring out some new controllers, like Blood said, since the analog sticks on Gamecube controllers are a little weak..

They do have new controllers. It's called the classic controller. LEVEL UP ! ! Since playing with the Wii-mote would be awkward as all crap, they'll probably make the game work with the classic controller, I think. It only makes sense. The damn thing has like a bajillion buttons on it, and a joystick. Two joysticks, even. Enough to perform the essential functions of Smashing, I'd say.

The GC controller would still be a better choice for Brawl than the classic one, just because most people are already familiar with the layout and gripping it, and it wouldn't take any getting used to.

Cool. I was worried I'd have to get used to the Wiimote, haha.

I've known this for ages. But yes, very interesting. Unless they come up with a very solid and revolutionary control method for something as frantic as Smash Bros, using the Wii Remote would just feel really awkward. Also, as most of you said, it's logical to use the GC controllers as they're so familiar.
Now... when will it come out? ><'

...Must stop forgetting... Anyways, Sakurai DID say that the Wiimote can be used for a couple of "Easter eggs" in SSBB.
In other news, So-ra! So-ra! Sora for SSBB!! Seriously, must stop forgetting...

Actually (If I recall correctly) this has been confirmed ever since they announced Brawl
I think its a good idea that they are going for Gamecube controls, it can be Nintendo's first game to show that you don't need to use the wii-mote and wii-motion stuff for Wii games

W00t! This sounds like good news to me!
But I had thought Wii games already worked with the GC controller.

This is also good news for me. I'm going to be getting a Nintendo Wii as soon as the stores around me have any in stock, and I've been waiting for SSBB for a while now. ;D

So I suggest we use this thread as a place for some discussion on the smashbros.com updates, hmm? The latest: Dr. Wright as an assist trophy. He can spring skyscrapers out of the ground, which is pretty hardcore. www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items/assist/assist03.html

Hm, someone told me that online play is not confirmed for SSBB? Is there truth to this, because if they are even thinking for one second about leaving online play out of the game, it'll be one of Nintendo's biggest mistakes. They've missed many great opportunities for online play in the past, they had better not pass it up this time.

Online play was pretty much confirmed in their super short speech about Brawl at this year's E3, and it was already confirmed before-hand, so I don't see why they'd change their mind about it now.

Well, we have the new info to put up, too! Not only is the US release date December 3rd, 2007, the Dojo has new info on Donkey Kong as a fighter, as well as a new 15-second video featuring some of the final smashes! They look pretty cool

If characters like Geno, Fawful, Diddy, and Kamek aren't playable characters, do you guys think they'd have a chance at those Assist trophies?

I figure I may as well bump this with some relevant information. Yoshi's just been announced today on Smash Bros Dojo, and they've ditched the look he had in SSBM and now are using the sdame look he has everywhere now, if that makes any sense. If not, then SHAZAM

That Yoshi is really adorable! But honestly, it makes me kind of sad that the Yoshi's Island style/model of him is pretty much now forgotten forever, both 2D and 3D artwork. His SSBM model was the very last thing we'll ever see of his Yoshi's Island form. :[

It's awesome that he can now use his Egg Toss as his recovery jump. Now that Yoshi is on the game, I don't have to worry by only using Link in the game. XD
