New moon. Exactly on the new moon.
I was learning about phases of the moon last semester of school, too.

Waxing Gibbous. What the hell kind of word is "gibbous" anyway? Well, it's not full or half, so really it's a 'gibbled' looking moon phase, yes? Gibbous is just a more scientific sounding form of gibbled, methinks. TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! !

Because the word protuberant wouldn't sound as silly. Go blame Latin for that one.

Mine's was between the New Moon and Waxing Cresent, about two one day until it became a New Moon. Sorry, Waxing Cresent in one day.

Waning crescent, almost a new moon. I remember looking this up a long time ago for reasons I don't care to explain. It's a nice phase of the moon, that waning crescent.
When my brother was a kid, he used to honestly believe that the crescent moon was God's toenail.
