This is just for fun, and to settle my curiosity as to what everyone likes the most in detail. I'm also seeing if anyone will list designers other than the well known big boys. The designer I picked I didn't really know of, but he's one of them, though apparently not as well known.
If this belongs in the general gaming section, then go ahead and move it, but I thought this would better fit the Yoshi Cafe.
All right, here's how it works:
Please tell us...
...your favorite game designer
...your favorite franchise that designer made or worked on
...your favorite game from that franchise that the designer made or worked on
...your favorite main/ friendly character from that game.
...your favorite enemy.
...why these were your choices.
...anything else you'd like to say, whether it be something interesting about the designer, a favorite level, or anything else that you might think of.
Takashi Tezuka
I chose Takashi Tezuka because he's worked on some of my most favorite games, and a lot of them the most successful including Galaxy, Super Mario Bros 3, and Ocarina of Time.
Yoshi's Island
The reason I chose Yoshi's Island for the franchise is mainly for the artwork and it has, in my opinion, the truest depiction of Yoshi yet. I'm a Shy Guy lover, and those games have the biggest variety of Shy Guys than any other game I've played. I'm not exactly particular to the babies, and if they make a 3D version of the game, I'm hoping they take the babies off. Oh well, as long as they keep true to the original style and idea of Yoshi's Island, I'm fine.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
My favorite game from that franchise is the first Yoshi's Island, for the Super NES. I choose it because it was more challenging than the GBA port, and I didn't like the additional babies for the DS game. One baby is enough, thank you. But those aren't the only reasons, oh no. I also chose it because it literally pushed the Super NES's performance. It used a Super FX 2 microchip which allowed the designers to have a lot of freedom with sprite scaling, polygon effects, and pre-32-bit computer effects called Morphmation which was pretty advanced for a Super NES game, and boy did they take full advantage of it. But I don't need to tell you that.
Yoshi
My favorite character is of course, Yoshi. Just because his design was so well grounded to how one would depict Yoshi. If someone asked me, "What game should I play to see Yoshi at his best?" I would immediately answer, "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island." Honestly, there's no other Yoshi game that portrays him better.
Shy Guys
Now if it weren't for my love of Shy Guys, this would be a real toughy. There were so many enemies introduced to this game, it was unbelievable. From the Dazees, the Wiggleflies (The Wigglers with Butterfly wings, I'm not sure of the official name), the penguins, though they were more neutral, and so many others. Not only because I love them so much, but because this game depicted the Shy Guys in all of their glory, as it did with Yoshi. I'm sure it's safe for me to say that this was the first time the Shy Guy's true colorful and mischievous nature was brought out. There were the Fat Guys, the Skinny Guys, the Stilt Guys, Ghost Guys, and Fly Guys to name but a few of the new types. Again, I'm not so sure those are their official names This is the game that brought out my love for them as well.
Extra Tidbits
Something I learned about Mr. Tezuka was that his wife was the inspiration for the Boo character. The reason is that she is often shy, but one day she became very angry at him for spending too much time at work.
One of my most favorite levels in SMWII was the skiing level. I also loved the "Welcome to Monkey World!" Level, which was 3-1.
I got the game from my best friend from childhood, thinking it was Yoshi's Story, haha. I quickly found out that it wasn't but it was even better. I still have the same copy that I received from him.
