... that you should have known years ago.
For me, it never occurred to me what Mario said when you threw Bowser by his tail in Super Mario 64. For the longest time, I thought he said something like, 'TA-DONKEY BOWSER!" I played this game when it was absolutely new back in 1996, and it seemed to have taken me over 12 years to see somebody bring this up and tell me he was just saying, "So long, Bowser!" Well, that was a shocker.
Speaking of shockers, it was in high school in my senior year (!!) that it somebody pointed it out during physics class that Bambi is a man. Seriously, how did I miss this? I watched the movie when I was a toddler, so how come I didn't remember the time he grew antlers and became a prince of something at the end. That's how it ended... right? For well over a decade and a half I thought Bambi was a girl. I mean, what the heck kind of name is Bambi, anyway?
I know I have more of these things, but I can't remember them all right now.

Did a little grammar check, if you don't mind.
I've had these things happen to me, but whenever I realize the truth behind something like that, I usually forget that I had mistaken it in the first place.
I do remember sounding out the "b" in "subtle" before my friend pointed out that it was silent. I'm sure there are similar times about mispronunciations.
Check this out, John. Bambi means "young girl", so you shouldn't be blamed for such a mistake. It's derived from "Bambina". I only realized Bambi was a male deer when he grew into a buck. What was Felix Salten thinking, I wonder? Flower is just as confounding, though, don't you think?

Haha, wow Gem, never noticed that.
Well, it took me a while (actually, up until last month) to realize that in SMB 3, you could use the second magic flute while in the warp zone/island to go straight to the eighth world... I felt so dumb after I found that out.

To add on to the discoveries in yet another mario game, I finally found that last star in Tall Tall Mountain today with a friend of mine. It's a course in SM64, and I couldn't figure out the 'Mysterious Mountanside' objective. Turns out, part of the wall was a portal to another slide level. Yay.

Lefty loosey, righty tighty.
One of my best friends taught that to me recently. Before then I had thought the direction you turn stuff to take caps and the like off was random.

In Super Mario Bros., the bushes and the clouds were the same sprites only recoloured. Never noticed this either. Huh. As for me, I don't remember anything I've learned recently, but I know it's happened to me before in the past. I just can't think of anything right now.

It might be a bit of a bump, but I think I have a good reason for it: I just found something out today that I should've known since '93. The song in Free Willy, Will You Be There, has occasionally been popping in my head over the past month, and when I finally looked it up on YouTube for listening, I found out it was sang by Michael Jackson. Man, all this time, one of my favorite songs from my childhood, and I had no idea. I'm going to have to watch that movie again. It's been too long.

You know, at the beginning of that movie, there was a music video of Michael Jackson singing. I was pretty sure it was a woman singing. I didn't realize it was a guy until I was ten. Boy was that a huge shock.

For the longest time, I thought that "Beleive" by Cher was about Sonny's death and her inability to move on -- I didn't know it really had nothing to do with that. x3

Here's another one: It was only two months ago when a friend told me what the word "eloped" meant. Somehow this never occurred to me...

Pineapples don't grow on trees.
I mean, when you think about it that makes sense but... I always naturally assumed yes they grew on trees on islands.

..I totally forgot pineapples didn't grow on trees. Then again I only learned that on a trip to the Dole.. factory?... Farms?... I forgot what it was. But I think "Fields" is the more accurate term.
I just discovered Tweety Bird was a guy.. I can't remember if I've ever heard that before. But I probably didn't believe it. |D I also always thought Magenta from Blues Clues was a guy. Then I found out she was a girl and got pretty disappointed.. ..I don't really know why.

Hey, I thought Blue was a dude at first.

I always knew Blue was a girl for some reason. I don't even know how I could tell. I think it was the "voice".

I recently found out that the voice actor for Bart Simpson is a girl. Several of the male children in The Simpsons are voice acted by this girl.
Also, Luigi sounds exactly like Mario in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Not Brawl though, Luigi sounds like Luigi in Brawl. I've known this for a while now, but it still surprised me when I found out.

Maybe it doesn't constitute as something I SHOULD've learned years ago, but apparently Boo's laugh is Bowser's laugh from Super Mario 64 sped up.

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, but I knew Diagon Alley said quickly becomes "diagonally". But I just realized Knockturn Alley becomes "nocturnally". -slow-

I learned today that the Yoshi sound from Super Mario World (when Mario jumps on Yoshi's back) was a recording of a record being scratched, played backwards. I'm probably late to this fact, but still, cool xD

Y'know, I'm just wondering... is it a coincidence that so many members at this forum have avatars which are pictures of blue yoshies? Like, you know, because this is kinda like, a blue forum? It doesn't count as something I shoulda known years ago either, I don't think... or does it?
