You have the chance to avoid the attacks brought up by Smash Ball, not the same with Blue Shell, no.

The smashball, eh, it's alright. It's not the best though, and that's coming from a Smash obsessed freak.
The blue shell, like many have mentioned already, doesn't benefit the player in last.
I dunno.
