Sorry for the vague title. I was just wondering peoples views on a few questions about the Mario brothers and the Mushroom Kingdom.
First of all, where did Mario and Luigi originate from? We know they were Italian plumbers (Though they never do any plumbing), but they lived in Brooklyn in New York according to some early games, cartoons and that appalling film. Yet in Yoshi’s Island they were babies and already in the Mushroom Kingdom delivered by a stork (O.o). Are these babies actually the Mario Bros. or their children? I’m guessing it’s them, as u see silhouettes of their parents at the end of the game and it’s not Mario, Luigi, Peach or Daisy (I would assume they would be the mothers if so). So… if the babies were the actual Mario Bros. how did they end up in Brooklyn? Didn’t that film say they were orphans? (Poor Yoshi wasting his time) Some people think that they were taken to Brooklyn to keep them safe from koopas. That would make a bit of sense…
Well, that would help explain Donkey Kong. I’m assuming Donkey Kong arcade wasn’t based in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario was a carpenter back then and going after some chick named Pauline. Has the character Donkey Kong ever been seen in the Mushroom Kingdom though? I’m not sure if Mario Kart counts… So, this carpenter climbs up scaffolding after a huge monkey to get Pauline.
Then in the game Mario Bros. he and Luigi helped clear out Brooklyn sewers of weird creatures (the closest we see to them actually plumbing). Now… this is the confusing part… they’re under Brooklyn… yet there’s a “Pow” block, big green pipes, spineys and all other sorts of enemies. This is before they get to the Mushroom Kingdom. So, is the Mushroom Kingdom underneath Brooklyn? I always assumed they were taken to another dimension (Bricks floating in the air!). Everything seems to point to the mushroom Kingdom being underneath the normal world (I suppose it makes a small amount of sense). Why do we see the sky in the mushroom kingdom? (Why do the clouds have faces? D = ) Didn’t Mario go into space in Mario land 2? So confusing… Perhaps there was a portal to another dimension in the sewers?
Right… so he’s a plumber from Brooklyn who now lives underground or in another dimension? O.o (Wasn’t he a doctor too?)
Well, now he must be having a hell of a time eating mushrooms to grow, wearing suits looking like raccoons that make him fly (WTF?) and going after a princess called Peach (forgot about Pauline pretty soon, eh?). There’s a big dinosaur who keeps stealing the princess called Koopa… now… is that the same guy as Bowser? Perhaps a relative who has the same taste in princesses? Maybe his full title is Bowser Koopa… So Mario goes after him and defeats him on several occasions. Then he goes to ANOTHER dimension? O.o Going after a guy called Wart. There are shyguys here, just like in Yoshi’s Island which is based before this, though made afterwards.
But then there was Wario. Now, Wario and Waluigi are evils versions of the Mario Bros.? Is it just chance that these two plumbers (one with a Doctors degree) ended up here and meet two other guys who look somewhat like them? Or maybe they’re their evil counter parts from ANOTHER dimension who ended up in the Mushroom kingdom at the same time Mario and Luigi did.
Well I have many more questions which I may ask later on, the answers I gave were obviously only my opinion, I wanted to know what other people thought about a few of em.
