It seems someone, (twi stated that it was his friend, who was being foolish) has delivered a virus through MSN. It will go through people on your MSN buddy list and automatically send them an IM stating "Click this link" or "This picture looks just like you!" or something along those lines, and then go through the people on your list, and it will be a complete chain. I got the link, and it went through people on my list, and then it was sent to their friends, etc.
Just a warning to all you out there who commonly uses MSN messengers.

You could just not open the link, right?

If you get any link, ask your contact what the link contains. Viruses won't reply to human response usually. (Face it, if it does, you have no way of telling than to ask again, and see if exactly the same sentence, with same punctuation is used.) As always, grab an anti-virus scanner. ClamWin is pretty good, but it doesn't get rid of viruses, yet. It's for advanced users who prefer to manually remove viruses. AVG Free is one that removes viruses for you. free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Doesn't know the meaning of practical joke, my computer has only just slightly recovered as I'd had problems before this. Don't worry, I'm beating the guy up at school on Monday, the tosser.

Luckily i was using my mobile device as this was going around, so when i got it, it was not sending the link to anyone else. Yeah, i am aware of the situation, and Paul, i hope you give that guy a good smack in the face.

You know, two days ago, someone on my MSN contact list (who is from a community I left a year ago) randomly sent me a message with an image link in it. Judging by the URL, I thought the link would take me to some tasteless shocker image or something, but nonetheless, I clicked on it. Firefox popped up a download confirmation, saying that it was a GIF image file (when the file extension was JPG). Normally, images would display within the browser, not show up as a download, so I knew something was fishy. I just simply hit Cancel and moved on. Either I never got infected, or AVG caught it for me.
I know someone else online, a programmer, who was infected with the virus (yes, a programmer caught a virus. Imagine that). He reported that he was receiving CriticalException errors and that the virus was disabling his anti-spyware. I think he has it sorted out now... hopefully.

Ah, that virus. My computer was affected by it months ago and couldn't control my MSN, but it's gone now. I guess we need to be real careful about this ^^;

I've never actually been tricked into downloading a virus or Trojan program. The only viruses I've ever gotten entered my computer through my internet cache. I also got a fair share of Trojans on my laptop, because I was browsing an insecure network using unpatched Windows LEVEL UP ! ! (not a smart thing to do). AVG helped me get rid of the Trojans though, even with its strange reluctance to delete them from the scan results window.
