I'm sure every one of us have at least one item of significance to the history of their family somewhere in their house. Something that has been passed down from several generations or a couple; an item that ranges from a simple necklace to something as big as a grandfather clock or a piece of furniture. Anything! I made this topic, so we all can share a little bit of family history with our fellow friends here. So, how about it? Care to show us a little bit about your family? ^^
My item:
I have several of those kinds of items, but nothing seems to stand out as much as our piano. We have a Kimball player piano that was assembled in 1929. It's an old thing, sporting chipped ivory keys and elaborate, yet fading, woodwork; it's seen many years, many houses, good and bad times alike. Heh, it has even witnessed my growth, being there when I first took interest in learning to play the piano as a little child. It came from my mom's side of the family, and was purchased by her grandmother when it was made in the 20's. Along with the piano comes some 70 piano rolls (I haven't bothered to take an exact number). Many of the rolls were made in the mid 1920's themselves, and its kinda like taking a step back in time when you play one of them. It's a shame, though, that some of those rolls are falling apart due to their age.
Here's a couple of pictures I took where it sits in our foyer today:
