[March 23, 2007] On A Weekly Bulletin

This idea was passed to and fro about two weeks ago in the creation of that which revolved around the essence of a Weekly Bulletin. As such was stated, the idea itself would form around being able to give insight to the community during busy schedules. It would also form that which could be grasped in closing together a tighter group of unity, in such that all the members would be given the information of the "going-ons" from the following week and such. Now, there were some areas of this that were hazy; luckily a lot of input was put on for what should happen to the future of the paper. Many ideas were spread that had a lot behind them, and if it wasn't for what you had all mentioned, it likely would still be a blur. There are still some questions that ponder though, such as if you all were to recieve one of these every weekend in your PM box, would it be a bother? The main factor of these pieces is to keep you informed of the Tournies and such going on and around at the YC; this way if you do happen to leave for a long time you'll have things able to catch up on. These bulletins would also keep themselves intact while progressing to give you updates on certain matters that please yourselves, these areas are still out of focus. If there is anything that you can think of, from gaming news to hot topics, feel free to comment on such and put down what you would enjoy to catch sight of.

The layout and body of the constructed psuedo are still out of image; there have been remarks which wonder if the statement is going to be nothing more than a compiled PM. When thinking about that, that's actually a very interesting question to ask; it would be intriguing to see the articles displayed in a seperate type of body. Something that would really catch the feel of a newspaper or headline for the Yoshi's Corner. When speaking on the sections of the individual page, there are still many blank spots here and there. However, the following have been mentioned, and if you have any critiques on the matter then please do mention what is on your mind:

- The "Talk Show" Layout: This of which is Lazoshi's, and it can be dependent on whenever he sees fit for going ahead; since it's summer there is no rush on the matter, so depending on the time that he might have is when that could appear.

- A "New Members" Section: It was also mentioned by a member that perhaps there could be an area to introduce the newcomers to the Yoshi's Corner. Now, while they might have their welcome threads, the paper would be able to reach everyone and let them know who has arrived. Maybe even provide seperate lengths to their "Welcome Threads" in case you would like to leave them a hello. This idea has a positive influence in the factor of which it would try to connect fresh members with the rest of the community upon their arrival.

- A "Tourney" Section: By now it seems pretty natural for everyone to know of Strangie's held video game tournaments. If you haven't tried them out, next time he holds one it's highly reccomended you give it a shot. You might enjoy it more than you think, and it's well worth it. However, this area would be used to give input on the tourneys as they take place. Such as mentioning Sign Up Dates and Beginning Dates; maybe going as far to speak of the progress the gamers are making and as well pay "homage" to the winner of the whole match.

- A "Hot Topic" Section: This always seems to be some addition to every paper you pick up off the stands. That little page which speaks about whats going on in your town and of the likes. Such might be possible in its introduction to the Yoshi Corner itself, in that it would speak of the popular threads as well in mentioning new rules set up by the Mods and of the likes. This way, you could keep on top of changes as well as know what everyone seems to be heading to.

- "Le Riff Raff": It just so happens that this is where the edge of the world lies; meaning that what comes afterwards is unknown. These little commentaries could contain anything and everything, be it gaming news to weather charts. The gaming itself could be situated merely to focus on what the board obviously has ground upon. However, instead of focusing merely on Nintendo maybe they could as well open doors into the other companies. That way, headlines could be crossed for all areas; giving view into all Next-Gen worlds. As for mention of a weather area, this was brought up by another member as well. This part could focus on the main locations of where many YCers thrive, giving notice on anything from Hurricanes to weekly temperature updates. It might be hard to follow through with, since everyone is so widespread; but that seems like a bright notion. However, if you have any input on other ideas to add to these parts, always shoot your thoughts as you please.

When moving to the writers of each area, things go into that of a wondering ordeal. There could be many options placed upon; that of which could be given to the Mods to write or to the Members to write. Yet, as well it could also be a mixture of both Mods and Members; that way the community would be connected by that bridge. Mods working with Members and Members working with Mods; it would allow more communication between the parties and make things feel more in place. As for who would write what, now that's another part that leads to nowhere; although if there is anything that anyone would like to add for such you can at any rate. That's all that has been given for now; the rest is up to any words that may sprout or thoughts arise. You can speak of anything from the layout, how it will look, how it will be written, and what to write about. As for today, we all do wish everyone a wonderful summer vacation; and don't let anything get on your nerves. Keep the best of care out there YC, and when it comes time for some fun in the sun, enjoy yourselves fully. Stay safe and sound, don't let anything bother you or make you feel out of place.

Also, upon the subject of writers for material; there are things being looked for as of the time. This can progress from anything and everything of the likes. It depends upon if you want to, or if you don't. As of now, there have been few who have been asked; that of the same proximity. In such, there needs to be a few more to finish off the whole pull toward the objective of the likes. The same for what you would like to write as well. If there is anything that you might seem as being catching and would like to do; then in a way there is that of which you can send for such. Stating at the first to write a small application of the likes. It depends soley on if such is prepared for you, and if you really want to do such. You don't have to, but if you would like to try to be a writer then go for what you can. As well, the choosing on such will likely be decided by a party therefore fair in it's bonds. This way, biased behaviour could try it's best go into a state of avoidance. Some needs are balanced far and wide by the plate of things; below are some grounds needed to be covered:

Explanations as to what the "Writers" should look for in their suited articles.

- Artist Section Writer (Could be anything, from tips to how to make things fit, how to use your programs right; it might require research by some artist in themselves, but it could also fill those wanting to try drawing out into some of the main uses of the skill)

- Game Section Writer (This is oddly a very large section; and there is a writer currently based on the grounds for such. However, there are multiple materials to cover. From consoles, to games, to technology on the horizon. This article might require a lot of co-work, the length of what you write is as well up to you.)

- New Members Area (Where to write about the new members, who has joined and links to their welcome threads so others can easily grasp upon them. Won't take to much to write out, but you can add what you like there, even a nice welcome message. Maybe an Administration more situated detail to have)

- Hot Topics Area (As said above, this would helm what is going on at the YC; popular threads, popular polls with links to the such; as well as thoughts on what the community is up to and growing of the late. This can be open to Mods and Members, and multiple authors if you can find a way to seperate into such)

- Random Topics (This is something just sort of thrown out there; but as every newspaper seems to have it's random set of news, this one could be fit with it's own. This could be from anything and everything going on around you. Thoughts about what's been happening, decisions made in the world, wide news. More or less, you'd be doing the roll of a researcher; topics that please you, things to look into that might be big)

- Tourney Section (The events taking place in any competitions at the YC; from what Strangie holds to any other items. This can be watched for and devulged within, going from anywhere and anything. Stating as to who is winning, those within the games, and the scales on how it's turned out)

- Talk Show Layout (As given, this section is already taken care of by Lazo; if there is anything you have questions on for such you can always shoot though. As well, it's layout is depended on what he sees; and it can take as long as needed, whatever is suited there and when time is free for it to start)

When trying out for these sections, you can do anything that you please to. However, in wondering what you can do there are things that you can partake within. Some requirements could work around the field of these bullets below.

• Write out Below or in a PM (Whichever in Privacy suits you), the section that intrest you the most and why you would like to write to it.
  
• One major requirement is that you would be on time, and when given a deadline for an article you could get it out. However, if anything comes up from vacation, to going ons around your life then don't worry about it.
  
• A reccomendation is a "Practice Article" in which you would take on the section you think that you want, writing a little example of what your real work would look like. This doesn't have to be done, but it can be if you'd like. Maybe if you like your Practice Article enough it can be used for the first copy.
  
• As well be able to work with others, you'll have to in many cases with things, depending on what section you wish to work for.
  

As well and highly thought of thanks to a member who mentioned it. This format can be done in any direction; many it could come to you in one huge PM, but that might just leave out a lot of information. It would be bland and as well a huge block of information to scroll though. Therefore, if there is any reccomendation for webspace, a place to keep the information, areas to split the articles into, then feel free to mention and of the likes. It doesn't have to be a very kicky area, but a place where the articles could be compiled maybe in diffrent sections. Where you could as well see older articles that were made. This way the amount of information given could be infinite on scale when you write, and not confined.

I'd love to help out as a writer, though I don't have much experiance, I've written a couple of articles for school papers. I'm not sure what area I'd want to go into, all seem good, I'm up for anything at all, so sign me up to help if you need me =D

I could write articles if you so wished. It would probably be more along the lines or tutorials or tips for writing/drawing, though. Or somesuch. I might be able to think of other topics. And I'm not good with deadlines. Would more 'freelance' type writing be fine (submitting for whatever the next issue is if one can't meet the deadline and probably not submitting to every bulletin)?

Hmmm... I suppose I can give it a shot. Don't expect much out of me, however. I can write, but usually my style is clean cut and straight to the point, so it can look a little short on most places. If anything, I can try my hand at writing about the Hot Topic section. Hopefully I can try and help out with any other topics whose authors are unable to fulfill on the deadline. Who knows? Just keep pestering me about it, we'll see what happens.

So, after what seems to have been a long spacial error between the creation and idea of this format; all seems to be springing up once again:

An apology to those who had wanted this to appear over the span of the Summer. If there is any blame to be pointed, it is likely do to the closeness of the creation on the edge of Summer. It's a difficult time to recieve to much, due to the avaibility of many within regions that can not totally be reached in a gracious manner. Therefore, on the subject of that alteration, it seems that this idea is still in the works. Nor did it of course, ever come to die in the first place; merely was it suspended so that some could get their feet in the door. With school underway, the essence of which can be spent putting it together still seems very rocky. Yet, that can be surpassed with weekends and of the sort. It's very difficult, or so presumed, to chose a totally free time for any to have their hands upon the matter. Therefore, all that can be done is exemplified within a compromise. Of course, this is indeed not the subject of the news that has come under fire as of now. Since yesterday, it was noted that the "Newspaper" could be hosted on a seperate page with the help of a fellow member of the board. Of course, this member is indeed well known and does have their own reputation behind them. They have accepted to lay out it's format, and help in it's creation. Thus stoping the articles from being measely thrown together in the layout of a simplified blog. Hopefully, while the details still seemed haze, the Paper itself will now have a certain layout as the host sees fit.

Pawy, or as noted, Dragonpaw has agreed to fill in this task of hosting up the Newspaper on her own space. It's more than just generous of her to do such, and she does deserve much back for deciding to work in such manners. At this time, it's not to certain as to when the Paper will actually make its rounds and as to how. This is also on the backs of the members, and how they choose to see it fit. The decision was made to allow it's passing, and therefore it will be constructed and delieved. The only trouble between all of us, is the time that we have to spend here online. We all grow at diffrent ages, thus the loads of work we are handed seem to be drastically diffrent. Some float through college, others are in their last years of highschool: these can be the most crucial to any education. This means that their time for "amusment" can be dwindled when studies are on the rise. So, as spoken, the release date of the finished version is quite unknown. There are some neccesities to be asked before that can come; such as those who will write certain sections. If you are one of the members who had asked to do one before, are you willing to still continue it after this long lag of time? If there is anyone who wishes to join, they can so forth ask and see what position that they could want. In essence, remember that it is almost like that of a Newspaper you may see within your existence. Something simple, broken into numerous sections where you can comply with what you feel and focus on one main point instead of having to break up to much. That way, in the end, all areas can be fit together and shipped out to keep the YC informed on the recent happenings in the know-how.

As well, as some of you may remember, the Talk Show hosted by Lazo has not ceased. Let it be excused on the fact that Lazo is in college. This is indeed something that deserves far more patience than the little "Show" itself. Yet, he has mentioned briefly that the subject is still there to be taken. He is going to make it run, when he is able to grasp his feet upon the ground and take the program into his hands. Until that time, there is much that is left open on the moor; give him the space he needs though, and don't worry on any of those factors. If you would indeed like to be interviewed, remember to ask Lazo for a place and see what he may say. The whole ordeal is in his hands, he has the power to do as he comes to be fit. So, any true form of that matter could really only be defined in his words and mannerisms. He has spent a lot of work on it before, and it seems that he has a huge dream for the future of it's space. Again however, another apology to the quite hefty lag between here and now. If you have any suggestions on this process, or anything you would like to add to the paper itself, go ahead and shoot your illusions and see where they go. If there is any mention on the "Talk Show", try to bring it up with Lazo, but do keep in mind that he is a busy man and has much to complete in the times that he is here. So be patient, and don't let anything bog you guys down. Thanks though for your compliance in the past, and the things that you have done to help form this into a picture that can be established.

I have a small request. If it's at all possible may I be moved into another section of the news article. Whilst i'd still love to participate, I haven't really a lot of time now with GCSEs in school and so I'll be very restricted to time, so the gaming article may not be the best as it's rather vast and the gaming news comes in very rapidly, so I may not be able to do much in time. As I say I'd love to be in there, but maybe a smaller part if that's possible. If not, I'll still do the gaming news, but just a request if it's possible. Cheers.

Is this whole newsletter thing shebang still under consideration? I'm asking because there's a rather interesting bit of news for European Wii owners that I found out around 20 minutes ago.

A website would probably be easier to maintain than a newsletter, if you can make it so that people can post updates whenever they want instead of waiting all week to post something that might be out of date.

I can't stand using the word but probably something in a blog format might be the way to go with it. That way people to can subscribe to the RSS feed - assuming it'll have one - and be notified whenever it updates. I'm pretty sure all major browsers support RSS so everyone should be able to subscribe to it easily enough.

In a sense, the bulletin has not yet died; the only reason lagging persist, is due to the growth of functions that people have going on in their lifes. The idea still rest where it once did; it's just that with the mega amount of maturity throughout the boards members: many people are unavaible. Those who are avaible, usually get roped and gagged with certain other tasks they must attend to. Since it's been so pale and quiet for many months; those who would have likely written articles have moved on. It's a fault here, for asking so early; yet, the newsletter has yet to die or disperse. All the thoughts and "pleasurable" additions to the bulletin still remain, especially those that were stated above by members. There's not much that needs to be done, the starting point would have to be around the creation of a site. Pawy, one of the members, suggested that she could plan and layout the site. Keeping the style fresh to the board, and controlling it; and that, is trustworthy. Pawy oftentimes keeps things where they need to be; and has the knowledge to keep things in control. Yet, with the business that pursues, time can be taken there. Or just, jot around for awhile. During the school year; it's extremly difficult to run a task, with homework and studies: life can become a hassle. The summer as well, offers a bit of obstruction. Many people go on vacations, and thus, things drastically get lowered. It's hard, and somewhat obtrusive to find the perfect set of dates that many can work.

Aye, and what moot mentioned above is quite true; the website idea would hopefully work. Allowing that it would be controlled by one member; a member who can take it properly. Pawy has the skills to do such; but that, is up to herself and none the other. Along with the blog; that to could find it's own way of working. Updating shouldn't be a hassle there; and, all that would have to done, as you stated, is an announcment to tell the members of the corrections to the blog. The only surviving issue is that of, if the blogs host happens to go down; things could happen with ill regard. If a site was giving, it should be in that hosts control. Or at least, in some manner; so they, would have the power to work it at their will. So while many ideas seem to be sleeping underground; do not feel that they have widdled off or crippled themselves. They are still there, floating in that wild inertia. All that needs to be given is the right time, and right situation to grab them. It's hard to take something, and make it roll; the wheel only goes, when all sides are round. You can't miscontrue that construction.

As well, all of those who wished to write articles earlier, an apology to the "time" the program is taking. If, by now, you wish not to; just restate, and don't worry with things. Thanks though, for gesturing there; it's the fault here, for taking the time to get everything set up and built. There aren't any "real" additions to give to the project; except apologies against the months it has taken to construct. Most of the ideas, still remain though. Along with the thoughts of using the site as an area to update the news that is going on in the world of Yoshi's Corner. Of course, not all the news would be found in that situation. Since, most of what happens here, is in plain sight: there will also be national "figments" of news. However, it shoudn't be anything that many "youths" don't care to see. Such as the riff raff, things that parents constantly run dry. Most of the news, should be hit upon the likings of the members at this board. Such as, updates on Games, Nintendo additions, competitions between consoles, updated and released movies, music. Something, that in instance, you might see in your school Newspaper.

The idea of this, "project" is to take news, and display it to the YCers with easy access. That way, they don't have to stumble around and wonder what many are talking about. When new games are relased; there will be coverage of that. When some new idea in the gaming world surfaces, it should as well be mentioned. This, would hopefully, keep many members in order with their fandom. And, the writers, would be that of the researchers. Under the control of a webmaster, who would take their entries, set them up, and publish them. Giving full credit to those who did their duties.

Also, an older idea; that Lazo became the controller of, would hopefully be implied. However, he has a hard life; and a lot of school to go through. Being older, means there are important things to be done out there. So, the time taken there; should be given. He shouldn't have to get frustated in that sense. However, he was the main head of the "Talk Show". This "Talk Show" was the hope of interviewing a member, to find out more about them. How he choose them, is up to him. In fact, the whole format is up to him; he could do what he pleases, when he pleases. That's all in his hands, and can be done, whenever.

So the idea, has not deceased; it's still in that state of "foundation", and hopefully someday in the future, will find it's balance.

If anyone is actually interested in helping with this that'd be cool because obviously we'd need more writers than me to keep the content flowing (lolz I'm totally taking over here, because nobody else is doing anything about it.). I don't know whether we'd be keeping the previous sections mentioned (what with those being made a year-ish ago) or making a whole bunch of new ones, but I'd say as a given what we'd need is at least art and games, those being popular things here as well maybe a section for popular threads? I don't know, I'm only throwing ideas out, and naturally it'd be cool if anyone else were to throw any in.

As for what we'd be actually making this with I'd still go with some sort of hosted blog format as that way you can just update whenever you have something interesting to add, as opposed to a lump of content coming out each week. Also with a blog its easy to update as well having the capability for multiple writers, and allowing people to comment on it on the actual newspost, as people commenting is always good.

Also practically every good browser now (and IE7) has the ability to subscribe to RSS newsfeeds which is what you'd subscribe to in order to check for updates, so theres no real problem in people being able to keep tabs on updates because you can do it all in-browser.

We also still need a name for this becuase as functional as "YC Bulletin" is it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue or have any kind of of interest associated with it. Also that way I'd know what to do for a domain if it were to be hosted on Wordpress, or a similar blog service.

I still think this is a good thing for the community to get involved in, as really, we do need a website (in my opinion) so we can get more members and interest here instead of people stumbling on it through word of mouth or googling it, or whatever.

A bigger userbase can't be a bad thing, and if we can have a laugh writing articles and whatnot running this thing whats to lose?
