This is a first/failed attempt to make a decent pic out of photoshop. Well, not photoshop per se. Just the 30 day trial thing. I'm too money deprived to get the real version: www.deviantart.com/view/28133690/In all aspect, I hate this one more then nearly any pic I have done. First of all, the lines where all done in Paint, because I literally have no idea how to do anything in photoshop besides color, and in this case, horribly shade. It came out really blurry, a form of art I am not the least bit fond of. One of the worst points of this was the fact that I re-used my very first background, only I added the photoshop touch to it. I can't locate the colors I wanted to do a night sky, so I had to change the sky from night to day. That meant I had to re-shade the entire thing. Uh... so, that's my take on it. I would have asked someone how to work with photoshop, but nobody in my town has ever used it, so I had to teach myself how (and it didn't work out) But enough from me. Does anyone have any comments on this?

It's really good actually for a first Photoshop attempt, practice makes perfect, eventually you'll learn. The trick is layering, once you learn how to use layering efficiently, you'll make wonderful drawings and adding details to your drawings and focusing on certain parts at a time would be a breeze, did you use any layers? It's really quite simple.
I personally don't favor Photoshop very much, I'd much prefer Paint Shop Prop, in my opinion, it is a lot more easier and has more features and capabilities that can help you do neat art tricks with your pictures, as well as Vector and Photo editing. I recommend Paint Shop Pro for starters, it also has a free trial version, and once you learn how to use Paint Shop Pro, you should be able to easily adapt to almost any other program since most are set up similarly. I've heard Corel Painter IX works wonders too, but I haven't tried that program yet.
Your picture s very good though, keep it up and slowly start moving away from MS Paint and use programs in which help make your creativity boundless.

I agree with you on most of those statement accept one: There's no chance I will ever permenently keep anything other then MS paint, not when I have nothing to spend on it. Maybe in a few years when I can afford it

Maybe in a few years when I can afford it Well my Paint Shop Pro trial version is infite, once it runs out, I just tell it to extend my trial time XD. I didn't purchase PSP at all, but I still use it as if I bought it. I'm not sure if it really does go on forever, but I think it does, I just keep extending the trial, and that works for me just fine.

IMO, you shouldn't post something unless you're satisfied with it. If it's not good enough for you, it shouldn't be good enough for you to post. I mean, if you hate it, than you are only anticipating negative feedback right? You should either fix your art or stop talking down upon yourself.
Plus, I think this is good. The shading looks fine, honestly. So stop being so harsh on yourself.

You're always your own worst critic... Considering this is your first photoshop submission, I'd say you did a pretty good job on it. I've been using PS for a while and I still can't colour anything for beans I'm not sure that many people actually bought Photoshop, to be honest >_>

26 of them to be exact. I have no idea why I did, when I could have done this all in just one layer. I really don't see why you need them, but that's coming from the amateur I think that the nose is a little short is all. You normally draw those big cute noses TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! !I'm done with big noses. I never liked the way they came out, so I think they will be smaller from now on. IMO, you shouldn't post something unless you're satisfied with it. When I posted it, I wasn't expecting people to like it, I was hoping for others to add critique.

I left a better comment on the DA page, this work is really good, what you need is to have more time with photoshop to get to know each tool, there are also some other ways of shading, include the dodge and burn tools. Either way it's actually a pretty good try. Also the layers are used so if you mess up you can undo everything by deleting the layer, also it's for more presicion work. I'm not sure that many people actually bought Photoshop, to be honest >_> I didn't buy it, a relative of mine gave it to me from the US XD

Yep, I already replied to that. Uh, I get the trial for Paint shop pro, and if you ask me, that's even harder to get then Photoshop. Foe the sake of not wasting time, I'm going to probably forget about Photoshop and Paint Shop pro and just stay with Paint unless I can get a decent pic, it's the only thing I'm good at as far as art goes Edit: Fine, if you really want me to keep trying, I made another: www.deviantart.com/view/28185454/I still really don't like the ways these are comming out. I should be doing better then this, but I really don't think I'm able to right now. On an acedemic scale I'd give this a D- at best. Though once again I'm posting it to get critique.

If you only used photoshop twice, don't expect to put out your best works straight away. Its a hideously more complex program by nature than Paint, but with practice I can see you easily making pictures with more quality over time. Playing around with layers and settings and things is the best way to get up to speed with it, Photoshop isn't something you can pick up in 10 minutes like Paint. It is a professional grade program, so obviously you can do more with it but at the cost of the learning curve. Still, this latest piece is by all standards a very good effort considering your experience with Photoshop. The colouring is shaded in all the right places, good use of the dodge/burn to get the shading done properly, and everything looks as it should be. The only things I can find wrong with it (and then I'm nitpicking) are the stars in the background. Personally I think they'd be better as white and with a little less size, but hats just down to personal preference. Even though you may think you stink at Photoshop, I'd recommend to keep trying with it. ...Until your 30 days run out Still, there are ways to get Photoshop with minimal cash outlay...

Yes, that is true. Though I don't really have a way to get the real version yet. You are right about the stars. I tried to make them work, but I have no idea how to draw stars... so for some reason, it looks like it's an underwater thing. I know, I didn't expect perfect, but I didn't expect this bad either. I suppose I will keep trying, if I can
Edit: Does anyone know how to make stars? I was also going to make the moon glowing, but I couldn't figure it out. If I knew how to do a decent glod, I would have made windows in the buildings too.

I'd just choose a small white, or pale coloured brush and just dot stars around, personally.
For the glow, if you create a new layer (ctrl + shift + n I think), drag that to the top of the layers palette and colour in the windows the colour you want, then right click he layer you just made, click Blending Options, one of the settings there should be "Outer Glow". Mess with the settings there until you get something that looks good.
