I was born right when Hurricane Hugo pounded South Carolina.
I'm watching the Weather Channel now. I idolize those guys who go out and cover this thing right in the heavy wind gusts and rain. The eye wall was just east of New Orleans, so they got the worst of it.

Yeah, and the equipment they use to defend against hurricanes are designed for Category 3 hurricanes... And this is a Category 4 hurricane...
[glow=red,2,300]UPDATE[/glow]
Katrina has just made landfall on the Louisiana-Mississippi border.

Most of the people who couldn't evacuate, decided to stay in the super dome. So far, it's holding up but part off the roof is gone(Small) and made a leak. I'm sorta nervous, it's a category 5 right? Well, it suppose to change from going to the northwest, to the northeast so maybe, it will die out on Wedensday and going near New York when it dies. I hope it ain't too strong when it hits land. Compared to the hurricanes of '04, this makes them look kiddy. Let's hope for the best...

No, it only got to a Category 4.
We always get the remnants of these hurricanes. The rain goes on for days. I hope the remnants of Katrina aren't that bad when it finally hits here... But you never know... This is quite a historic hurricane...

At 7 PM EST, Hurricane Katrina is just barely a hurricane, with winds in the eyewall down to 75 mph (Winds have to be at least 74 mph to be classified as a hurricane). By the time it hits my area, it should just be a mass of wind and rain.

UPDATE: Katrina has been downgraded to a tropical storm.
Yeah, but still, unlike Dennis earlier this summer, I have a feeling we are going to get flooded in this area too... Last year, when Florida got crushed, we had lots of flooding from the aftermath of all those hurricanes. The student parking lot at my school was flooded. The river by my house was close to flooding, and it did flood in the next town over (which happens to be the town where my school is at).

So far, Katrinia was a huge diaster! Lost lives are going up, people are starting to steal, and I'm really depressed about it. 80% of New Orleans is underwater. So many lives were lost. I heard about a family of 4 died because they were scared to leave because looters were around. I heard it might take years to fix everything. Not only that, Gas Prices rose up thanks to Katrinia. The Superdome's roof was starting to have holes, and everyone is starting to leave to go to Houston, Texas. People are now stealing food and clothes to survive, I don't find nothing wrong with that, but now people are also stealing guns, and weapons, to make this more stupid, people are litterally ripping bars off of Jewerly stores doors and windows to steals Jewels. One policemen lost his life trying to stop him. It's a sad, sad day for Lousiana and Mississippi. I'm really depressed and worried about them.

There is an aftermath special on the Weather Channel at 9 PM EST (in about 5 minutes), if anyone is interested, which I'm sure there could be a few.
Man, you put it perfectly, Jayshi. I mean, what can you say now? Also consider that football season starts soon; how can you play football at a time like this? Especially for the Saints, who don't even know where they're going to play their homes games yet. Louisiana and Mississippi have been considered federal disaster areas.

Oh...whew. I was worried.
Talking about gas prices, isn't there some sort of solar car I heard coming out? I think I saw the prototype in a carnival of sort. Seems too good to be true.

They were comparing Katrina to Camille in 1969, which, at the time, was the most destructive hurricane in its day.
According to an expert on the Weather Channel, we are experiencing a thing called a positive AMO, or Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, meaning for the next decade or two, we are going to have very active hurricane seasons.
