Amazing there Gem; talk about making a motion in something new, unlike anything ever before. This might in fact be a true-blue fresh idea for the body of a Yoshi; in essence as well, it keeps the characteristics of the original very sane. You really achieved in this contest, and it shows that you spent your time and power working as hard as you could. There has always been an aspect in the way you draw and illustrate; its diffrent than all the others, made in a wonderous type of way. They all have this, "Laminated" feel to them; as if they are popping off the screen, made of that soft kind of plastic. From your Lizards to your Yoshis, each is their own, but you always give them a type of personality which helps bring them out. Also, when you apply colors, you never fail in making the canvas seem like a bright-fold; that of which depends upon the palette, shaping all things together as one. It's as if you manipulate the style to your liking, creating this impression upon your piece; while everyone has their own type of "power", yours is that which stems in it's own way. Seperating from the crowd, to give you that humorous feel you seem to adore; as well as with a shock of happiness. It's impossible to not look at your art and smile, all of your ideas seem to have a type of "ecstatic" hope within them. Giving all this aura of well-being, a more than suitable position for any drawing. Be it your lighting, shading, or anatomy, all work hand in hand to bring forth wonders such as this. With a submission as great at this, you have to have more than just a chance in Yoshifrog's contest.
To begin with, the body of your Yoshi is very original. In fact, you did a stupendous job on keeping his traits connected with the older form. From his nose all the way down to the tip of his tail, you were able to keep the essence about everyones beloved character. Yet, what really gives this the brush of might is your effect of "Additions and attributes"; especially the way you have the feathers coming off the back of the arms and elbows. It doesn't delude from the picture, in fact it progresses through the means; showing your creative side as you give Yoshi a new face. These only work and shift more with your coloring intact; for it is with that in which you were able to really make an inertia of "lovelyness". They are so bright, that of which would be expected for a tropical speices. It's like one of the "Lollypops", swirled in so many flavors; wrapped from edge to edge in a twirling tulmult of paints, winding only to end by sight but forever stretching into our imaginations. Your choice of reds, blues, greens, and yellows really helps construct the illusion; parting into our minds and giving everyone a grin. As well there, awesome addition to the toes with the small claws; that really helps finish it all off. While it might look small, it's a large part and definetly aids in the final pictation.
Your simple touch of lighter colors and darker ones really gives way to the shading and lighting in your hands; it shows that you care about what you are doing. Giving it that three-dimensional feel; because you do this, everything comes into play. The picture now has depth, as the Nose of the Yoshi seems round, and the eyes seem to have that "Rolled" effect as well. Many artist think the shades and lights are small touches, but you did something which proves that even here and there; they can do more than what they eye can trully see. Don't give up on your art there Gem. You've definetly grown in your skills, and this Yoshi trully gives way into what you have, and that of which floats around you. It's something new, fresh, tropical, and sweet at the same whim.

Woah... the Toucan yoshi, that... is... uhm... go read Contention's post, I can't say a thing he didn't say already.
I like everything that's on this picture! The amount of colors in it really bring out a special quality, not only that, but you got colors that went with each other. You took the time to think out each spec before you did it, it must have taken you an amazingly long time, not to mention the effort! Let's all give her a WOOT WOOT!!
