Board users, please tell me...
How much do you want a new board? I mean, is Proboards really that bad? And if it is, what forum software should I choose? I would like to opt for one of those phpbb forums that can be hosted on any server that supports php. But I dunno what to choose, or what to do.
Suggestions?

If you want something free, theres always InvisonPowerBoards that they can host you for free on.
Or, if you have the means to host it phpbb is a good choice, too.

No.
I'm perfectly fine here. Who's been complaining recently, anyway?

There were some people whining about how laggy the board seemed, I think.
And I don't especially care whether the board moves or not, personally, I have no problem with it.

Wow, I don't even remember the last time I lagged here. Besides, if I do recall, all that complaining about lag was a few months ago.

I never had any problems with Proboards or this YC, besides, I had dial-up when people were complaining and it didn't really bother me because my computer always ran slow. Besides, Proboards is so simple to use. I've tried using other boards but man are they complex to get the hang of... Here is good.

In two week's or so, open a board with Invisionfree. They are upgrading the system to the all new IPB2.0. I downloaded and tested this on my home server and it's a lovely peice of kit. There's some nice skinning tools too... Try it out ys, download the trial version off www.invisionboard.com and set PHP and MySQL up on your computer. You probably already know how to configure it but if you need a hand, i'll give you step by step instructions... The features you get in this trial version, Mostly will be included in the new invisionfree boards. I've tested PHPBB too and I don't think it has as many features. It's a good system but, I still prefer IPB... I'll be running off a review of this on another forum to show the admin what to expext in two week's time so if you wish, i'll pm it to you... The system look's complex at first glance but, just have a play with some of it's features. I got the hang of it straight away...

I prefer to stay here. I've hardly ever had lagging problems. In fact, i don't think i ever had any. The times i said i thought it was lagging turned out to be my computer lagging. But as soon as i changed ISP it was fine. The only time it lags for me is when there are a bunch of pics that have to be downloaded... but it's like that at any site for me. So here is good.

It's been quite good for me too. I'm just putting in a suggestion and as i'm already drawing up a report on IPB2's features for when Invisionfree is upgraded, I'll share it with anyone who want's a copy...

Uhh... didn't we already see how vulnerable IPB is? I don't trust proprietary software for server applications, mainly because they have far more security holes. phpbb is open source, and so it should be much more secure. Plus I can modify it without worrying about legal issues ;D
Ok I guess the board is fine as it is. I just wanted to know what you all thought. Thanks for the feedback.

I'd stay here personally because you can't transfer all the existing post's and topics from a proboard board to another...
I do remember you going over ipb 1.3's security holes but IPB 2 was released september 10th and on my demo server, it seem's very stable to me, Yet waiting to discover Security holes...
I'm pretty sure My account on my board was 'Brute Forced'. It was all letters. It's not now...
Edit: I'm now testing Proboards Features out... I have to say I don't like the default skin... It looks like days of chunder, with the bit's of carrot...

New software releases are always more vulnerable to older ones in its first few weeks of release. In fact I would consider using a brand new release of server-side proprietary software as security suicide. Remember Windows LEVEL UP ! ! SP2? It was glorified as the best thing ever done to Windows security-wise, and what happened? A whole bunch of flaws were discovered during the first few weeks of release. (see pcmag.com for details). The problem with proprietary software is that only a very limited group of developers get to test the software before it is released. With open source, anyone can test beta versions of the software. This means that a lot of extra bugs will be discovered and fixed, and that more programmers can look at the source code and find bugs as well. A perfect example to this is Mozilla Firefox, which hasn't reached version 1.0, and yet anyone can download version 0.9.x and use it just like any other program. Another great advantage of open source is that they are not interested in financial gain, and so this lets them plan their work calmly and carefully. Proprietary software companies must rush finished products out the door in order to beat the competition and to be profitable.

Hmm.. well actually.. I like proboards and such.. it's been great and all.. but.. i wouldn't mind change actually, Unless your able to alter probards some how? (more interactivity?) What would be somewhat cool is if we could chose from colour schemes for every independant user, More emoctions perhaps? (although i use keyboard smileys very oftenly now) A slight change to these boards wouldn't hurt, But.. The problem with new boards is that we'd all have to register again, which i don't like to do becuase of my damn email provider... (Damn you to hell Msn!)
