Do you know what your learning style is? Look over these characteristics of auditory-sequential learners and visual-spatial learners, and see which list fits you the closest. It is very possible that you will pick items from both lists, but you'll most likely pick more on one side, which indicates you are that type of learner. (Note: This is an incomplete, sampled list). img.2yr.net/ls.htmI have a theory that I want to verify, and so I need to know the learning styles of the people of this board. After receiving this data I'll let you know what my theory is about. =)

Very interesting.... I seem to have most of the visual-spatial characteristics.

Oh, I did something like this a few weeks ago in my U.S. History class. Except the one my teacher gave us had four results instead of two: Language-Auditory, Visual-Spatial, Mathematical-Logical, and Musical-Rhythmatic. Supposedly, I'm a Visual-Spatial learner. My opposite is Mathematical-Logical learner. I guess I'm Visual-Spatial in this one, too.

Well... I don't think I can tell. Many of them are too close, one way or another, and for a lot of them I wouldn't even know how to begin to judge. Sorry...

Looks like Visual Spatial, to me here.

I can't really tell. To me, I'm kind of balanced out between the two.

Visual-spatial, definitely.

It pretty close but probably leaning very very slightly (say by one or two points) towards visual-spatial.

Looks like I'm going to be the first Auditory-Sequential leaner to post on this thread. I did match up with some on the Visual-Spatial too, but much more on Auditory-Sequential.

My theory was that visual-spatial skills are directly linked with the ability to draw. It is VERY hard to notice your own talents because you tend to think that everyone is the same. I am definitely visual-spatial as well. For example, I can never memorize spoken instructions, I must write them down. Because of this I would never be a good soldier (Not like I'd want to be one... ever!). And I don't relate well to time; For a moment, I'll look at my watch displaying, for example, 4:50 pm. Assuming I have to leave at 5:00 pm, I'll always end up focusing too much on my current task and forget about everything else until I'm done. By then it could be 5:10 pm. And I don't know about other people but I only need to understand a concept once and do not need to repeat it over and over again (I hate that!!). And I have trouble spelling/memorizing new words without seeing them in text first, which is why I am "intimidated" by the French language because it is spelled so differently from its writing (I guess I'll never be able to learn nor enjoy French). I've NEVER had pretty writing, but I love keyboarding. I always hated teachers who would not give me credit if I didn't show my work; It made everything harder and lengthier. And I am super-bad at memorizing text (like actors do with their scripts), although I can do it if I am given a short paragraph and a LOT of time. (Note: I mean memorizing the exact text, not its meaning) And I always had very uneven grades, everything from A's to F's. And I always have hated books with 0 images in them. (Nor do I like reading literature).

Heh, I guess this may be a bit late on proving Soul's theory here, but I'll just say it anyway. I'm quite the visual-spatial learner. Well... more like visual-spaced out learner . Whenever I do any math, especially calculus, I actually imagine pictures of the actual numbers moving the way I want them if I want to solve a problem. On the other hand, I suppose I usually learn by trial and error and that I can learn phonics nicely (I can read and pronounce French, German, and Korean without actually knowing at all what it means) (Okay, so my guessing at French is quite rusty, but I'm still a bit able ). My handwriting looks a bit like chicken scratch (both hands, really), but I try to aim for legibility and neatness. My handwriting for both hands is virtually always legible, but it depends on the mood and setting if I can get it actually neat or not. Strange, yes? My memorization of words isn't that great, so I guess I prefer visualizing relationships. Moreover on the DARK side, I kind of must have reinforcement and repetition of learning. I can never guarantee the things I learn are permanent, but whenever the topic comes about, I will quickly recognize it always. I learn well from instructions, but teachers' emotions can bother me. I develop quite asynchronously and my grades are majorly uneven. I can only learn languages in class since I was brought up only learning stupid English. I'm more like "creatively, mechanically, emotionally, or technologically gifted." Hehe. Well, okay, I guess I'm about 45% AUDITORY-SEQUENTIAL and 55% VISUAL-SPACED OUT. Quite a close call there, huh?

Yes, exact same thing with me. That's most likely the reason I don't have very good grades when it comes to math. I'll do the problem in my head (if I am able to) and I won't get any credit, even if I answered the problem correctly.
It's also very hard for me to understand a foreign language (such as Spanish) when I can't read the words, but have to hear it being spoken to me.
Hahaha, same with me when it comes to Tagalog. I like to read out loud random words on TFC without any idea what it means. It's kinda fun. =P

For me, French and German pronunciation is HARD... *wishes he could sing along to Rammstein tunes* but Japanese is easy Despite the loss of my hand-eye coordination, I'm still pretty talented at painting words onto grains of rice.
That's just because you probably haven't heard much Spanish in your lifetime (and I mean Spanish coming from people that use it as their first language). It's all a matter of getting used to it. In the beginning, it was the same way for me with English; Not anymore. And I guess I could get used to French or German, but I'm sure it would take me far longer than with any other language. I can't seem to learn French words correctly even after reading them. I mean, I am totally confused when I (for example) see the word "Monsieur" and hear it spoken as "MesiƩ" (in Spanish accent). I've never wanted to learn French, but the occasions I've come across French words along with their pronunciation haven't taught me much.

Oh yeah, a friend of mine taught me how to read and pronounce pinyin XD. That's basically romanized Chinese. I can speak Chinese quite well, actually. Another Chinese friend, who's taking me on the Taiwan/Japan/China trip next year, has been teaching me very little on how to speak to get by once I do go to Taiwan. Soon, once I start getting myself surrounded by Chinese speakers, I'll start to get really used to the language myself . And maybe in Japan, I'll pick up how to read and write as well. Mmm... language.

Hmm, I tend to be a bit scatter brained at times when it comes to instructions, I like to try and get first things done first, and so on...but I never seem to keep to them. Could be a personality trait though, so that doesn't count. Hahah, I can speak French, I find the way to pronounce it is really cool. Same for Japanese, and Chinese. I've sung a Chinese song before. ;P
