I. Proposal
Dear YC Reader,
For the past few days since my leave I have taken more of a note as to watching the activites that have occured at YC. One activity I noticed going on recently was the new "YW Drawing Contest", which got me to think of some certain ideas for the community which I have ran over with PFY and TimYoshi, both of whom liked the idea, thus why I am posting it here. It has come to my attention of how many members took part in the contest that caused my mind to roll around some new ideas. A lot of new artist and members having taken a part in YW's contest and have all been happy to contribute to it. This is where my idea comes finally into motion. While watching all these members take intrest in this contest I started thinking what it would be like if YC had its own monthly contest, something that all the members could take a part in and contribute to.
I begin this proposal by stating the facts I had in mind. This Contest would be run by the Mods, so it would stay in a well balanced grasp and wouldn't fall apart under pressure. Each month the community would get together and propose an idea as to what the next coming contest should be, and when they had proposed a wealthy amount of ideas they would vote upon which was the best. The winner of ideas would be that coming months contest for the community to be involved in. Also during this choosing and voting the Mods would set a due date as to when the contest entries should be all sent in. Any entries after this day, would not be taken, unless of course certain circumstances may have consumed an individual at that moment in time.
After the contest ends and all the entries are finished, the community would once again hold a fun vote, to see who the winner would be of the contest. These votes should also end on a certain date, and all in one months time. Once the winner is announced, a small prize would be given, I would love to say we could just say "the fact you won is award enough" But unfortuantly we're all humans, and no one really ever lives with that. PFY has made a little offer to contribute that I will not say unless he fully certifies it, but it would give the winner a great chance to show off their winnings. Either than that, there are great artist here, who if willing could make a picture for the winner or anything they pleased. This is up to them and how much time they would be willing to spend.
II. Benifets
The main reason I thought of this idea above anything in my head was the benifets it could bring to the new members here who join at YC. If they were given the chance to take place in a contest they could show off their skills and feel that they belonged, of course they always do, but having a contest and something to participate in will get them to know the members of the board better and allow them to mingle as they come up with ideas and post their contribution to the contest. Thus, they won't feel so left out in situations, and having those comment on their pieces that are asked for that contest would make them feel even better, as in a boost of self confidence.
Another reason this is a good benifet I believe, is what I thought of after reading PFY's reason for the Writing Section. These contest would allow rapid writers and drawers at YC to try new things that they may have never thought they were good at. A writer may find they have a hand at drawing, and a drawer may find that they to can write from the heart. Finding such talents could occur by just doing your best on a piece to win, and the competition would allow people to try things they never have before. Thus, they would learn new skills and grow stronger as they taught themselves new things in their attempts at the contest. All in all, this contest I would hope so and belive, would allow the members of YC to have something to occupy their time and allow them to try some new skills out and mingle more. Thus, the new member to YC won't feel so left out at times, if they can contribute with a cause.
III. Certain thoughts of rules
Fairness, always has to be contributed to every piece of life that you must use, and so it unveils itself here in front of us. Along the lines of due dates and voting I believe should be equally spaced out so those venturing into new areas and techniques can try new things. Thus, if you had to move the Contest to every two or three months you could do so, that way every member if they wanted to, could nearly try contribute and make the contest a really fun challange.
Along the lines of fairness once again, I thought if a member won the contest two months straight in a row and were about to win the third month in a row that the award should go to the runner up, that way no one gets discouraged and gives up due to a constant winner. You could also change it around to as me and Dragon explained, that a winner could win once a month then not the next one, then the one after. That may seem a bit strict and not to fair as the two month rule. Its all how you, the YC reader, views this method of practice.
