I may be a total downer here, but I wouldn't exactly want more and more people on this site. That, and contests seem to disappoint some people... *Cough*

Oh no please, no more members! I was hoping to never have any more than 50 but now it's an all member frenzy, we have over 200! That's 4 times more than I expected. And some people only play to win, which is a shame that some of our members don't know the meaning of, "Winning isn't everything."

True...plus you may get members that will only post in the competition and then never return for their prize...and you know how many members have joined but never made a single post...

Its not really THAT bad to have a lot of members. But there are a lot of people who play just to win and never to just have fun.

Well, you are right CJ, it is not "Oh my gosh" awful to have many members, that means the board is popular and noticed by many other peers. Yet, sometimes it becomes so chaotic and disorderly when so many members join that it drives our much older members away ... eventually. I enjoy it when there is plenty of space for us and where the much active, dedicated, and older members could get to discuss things and make new threads without a bunch of other members straying away from the original topic.
New members are great. But there is a time when you can have too many, and when you have way too many, it is truly difficult to get anything established or a problem fixed due to the overload of members. This is just my opinion.

You seem to be assuming that because a member is new, they will be like... "OmG!!11oneone Roxxorz!" Or rather, they will be clueless. While new members in general are more prone to act that way, it's not a foregone conclusion.
An Overload of members situation reminds me of the Romans. As the empire expanded, they needed more officials (and powerful Urban Cohorts) to properly manage the large territory. The best way to controll an influx of members is to creat more moderators.
Anyway...
They don't have to be contests, I'm thinking something like a Theme. Submit pictures that fit a desired theme- it could be anything (not necessarily a week in length), like "friendship week," "opposition week," "party week," maybe even "Tank week."

While new members in general are more prone to act that way, it's not a foregone conclusion. Oh no, I didn't mean it that way. I'm not talking about members that have the one star rank that clearly states "new" I'm talking about quantity (new meaning more) of members who keep coming to this board. Ok so basically they are new members, but I didn't mean it that way. We were all new once, so yeah. However, it is no myth that some members have joined and not read the rules, for we still have members joining and breaking a rule in almost the instant they arrive. You have to read the rules when you join. However, creating more moderators will cause even greater chaos because having too many moderators will have a terrible effect on the enforcement of the rules. Not every moderator thinks the same way, and whilst one moderator may say that a member is clearly breaking the rule, two other moderators may say he/she is not. So you will have contradicting decisions that can possibly result in flame wars. Chaos + chaos = dreadfully bad mix. You can even ask some of my friends that have personal experiences with boards who had too many moderators to furthermore brief you.

I see what you're thinking, and it makes sense.
However, it would seem to be the only rational solution to massed membership. The current number of moderators would be far too overextended to be effective, and a member cap is impossible. The only thing I could say is be careful who becomes a Moderator.
About the contests, though. I still don't know what you think about the theme idea. Instead of contests it could be themes, such as "love," "progress," "game," "party," maybe even "Artillery."

Themed contests would be nice. Yet, we might want some different categories depending on age or experience or something like that for the new or experienced artists. ;D

hmmmm.. why cant you just have i time limit.... like if a person doesn't post at least 3 times every month they get kicked out....
contest ideas: anthro, anime, comic, holiday, best piccy of a certain random member (oohhh i like that) or moderator (because they help make the world go 'round)

well i think there should be contests in more of the boards such as the "fan fics" board or something so that people who arent good at art but like to write can enter. become creative and expand the horizons of the contests

Well; This IS a Yoshi ART board. Fan fics are just an expansion on that. And Teh, who you coughin' at? -snarl- I wouldn't mind having a lot of members, as long as they are MATURE, SMART, and don't post useless spam. >>;

Well; This IS a Yoshi ART board. It's not a Yoshi ART board. It's a Yoshi Community, and yes, it has everything including art and fan fics. However, this board wasn't created for the purpose of only art ... if it did, it wouldn't be called "Yoshi's Corner." The name speaks for itself, a place where Yoshi fans can "hang out" together as a Yoshi community, if it were an art board now, it would most likely have a totally different name and a totally different layout/perspective. Oh, I think you said it's an art board because it is linked to Yoshiart.com. Well, you can find the link to our board from a few other websites, but most people come to Yoshi art. The board was not created by the creator of Yoshi art however (Yoshi Soul), it was created by Tim Yoshi who owns yet another website and links to this board (if memory serves that is).
