Please read this. It's important to me and I think you all should know. Well, there is something that has been bothering for quite some time. I’ll start by cutting right to the chase, I’m deciding to change my name, here at YC, from Yonie to Zip. My reasons follow:

As most of you should know, I have a fox character named Zip. It wasn’t very long ago that I first presented him and my other furry characters to the community, but he had already replaced Yonie as my primary character and center of focus since January of 2006 (when he was created). You see, Yonie is a character that I never felt attached to. This is partly because he was an extremely rushed character and I didn’t really think him out before he was made. I’m sure a lot of you are well aware of how many times I have redesigned him. And yes, even now I would redesign him. This change in names doesn’t mean that I will never speak of Yonie again. He is a character of mine that I, no matter how many times I have to redesign him, will love and will never forget about.

Zip, on the other hand, is a character that I feel more attached to. I feel that he is a more original character that contains a lot of my personality. Throughout his eleven months of existence, Zip has never gone through a redesign and has remained fairly constant. He is far from a rushed character (in fact, it took me nearly three days to come to a conclusion with a name). Accounts that I’ve made over the past hew months have all been under the name of Zip, (this includes my DA account) and I’m beginning to be called Zip on all areas that I am present at. Yes, this does include here on occasions. It even seems that some members prefer to call me Zip. In some private conversations and chats they address me as such. And to tell the truth, I myself prefer to go by the name. As of a month or two ago, Zip has been given the title of my fursona, so I no longer even associate myself as a Yoshi. Now, this is by no means showing that I hate Yoshi.

I can say that going by multiple names in closely tied areas of the internet isn’t a good choice. These double names have also played their roles in confusing people. I have encountered numerous times someone saying, “Yonie is Zip?” I’d really like to put an end to this by placing the name that more people associate with me right here at YC. Now, again, this is by no means showing that I hate Yoshi. I love Yoshi, or else I wouldn’t have joined this forum and stayed here as long as I have.

I really want to let you all know that I do not feel good about changing a name that I have been called by for the past year and a half here, but I feel that it is for the best. As weird as it sounds, my decline in activities here has partially been caused by my dislike in the character that people associate me with. I don’t want you guys to forget about Yonie either. I mean, if you still want to call me by that, that’s fine, I have no problem with that at all. So, now that I’ve let this all out, I hope that you all don’t have a problem. I do not feel all that well about doing this, it makes me feel pretty bad. Your opinions matter to me so I’d like to hear some. What do you think of this?

Now to your big change:

You are absolutely right Yonie, err... Zip. XD This will be the best for you I think. Zip seems to be a more expressive character, not to mention he is so adorable! It is a good idea to be referred to as only character, people in real life don't have multiple names, why should we on the internet? You have been working hard on him (just 3 days in development wow!), and what you've created has changed. You seem to be a bit worried about this change, and I'm a bit puzzled as to why exactly. I guess this mean that I'll never have to call you "zonie" again! XD It is too bad that you are no longer a Yoshi, but this won't change much if anything at all of the relations between all of us and you. It's too bad that your decline in activity is related to something as unimportant as your character, I don't even have an internet personality, it's the same as the one I have in real life (limited by the fact that I'm kind of timid, oh well no one is perfect! XD ) No matter what happens we will still be your friend! You shouldn't feel bad about change. Change is good most of the time, and often inevitable. As with the case with Yonie, I think it is time that you moved on and create something new and better as you did with Zip. Good luck with your new character, may he bring you and everyone else a lot of joy!

Yes, I know the feeling. Gem, despite her very plain appearance, stayed pretty consistant with her look, 'cept when I added pupils only to give more personality, but also a very flexable character. Different designs, colors just make it world easier. TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! ! And everytime I made a new possible replacment (OJ, Fred, Marko, though they are still very lovable characters of mine) I never felt... full. Like she is my personality on paper, a character worth a thousand words.

Zip I guess you put a lot of mind and even donated a nice amount of personality, a part of your very soul, into. yonie, though also a very lovable character, maybe felt empty for he is not that of your creation? You did design him, but with help of a nintendo character. Zip is Zip, a fox to call your own. I know I went through the Yoshi faze and it just came down to being bored since you're limited with Yoshi anatomy.

It's cute. It's very cute. He looks so... cute. X-x I'm lacking any other words, my left brain ran out of fuel. I always loved your cartoony style. It's so... cartoony. Like almost 'aired on tv' cartoony. Like 'Zip the Fox and His Amazing Friends'! XD Very good!

All I can say about that is, well, rock on. You have every reason to do this and I think it's for the best, especially if it'd improve your attendance here. I wouldn't mind another fox around here, either. ;3

Hehe, you've seen my comment on DA about that picture. As said, it is one of my favorites that you have done so far, rivaled only by the ones with me in them. LEVEL UP ! ! Waaaaaaay too cute. XD

As for your character change, I'm happy you finally decided to go through with it. You're a fox, not a yoshi! You shouldn't have to be what you aren't. I'm sure everyone will understand. ^^

I really like this picture Zip, and I think it's perfectly fine that you're deciding to change your name to that, now after reading that comment, I understand why you wanted to announce the name change, rock on buddy! Ynie or Zip, you're still a great artist =3

Yup. Reasons reasons. I'd change mine too, but I wouldn't want the confusion of identity.

I'd feel the same if I tried to change my name to a different character. It's just not right.

Geez, you guys spend too long on characters. XD It took me about five seconds for me to change my name from "yosheegirl" to "yoshee." Bam! Persona born.
And I never, ever felt like I needed a new persona. Granted, it takes me a year to make a character I finally like now, but "Yoshee" is a character that I feel is worth a hundred thousand words. I'd never change, not in a million years.
But I guess some people are different. I'm not too happy that you chose to change your name after so long, especially since I'm not extremely fond of furries in the first place.
I guess if it makes it easier for people to identify you, it would be an okay reason to change. I guess I can't stay angry since I don't even know you.
So, I'd have to say in conclusion I'm pretty neutral about it. Although I can see why you didn't want to switch.
It seems like we lose more Yoshis every month, though...

I like how cartoony your style is, though the fur doesn't look nearly so fluffy with that shading. Your proportions look fine, and I like that ball of yarn by his tail.

You stole the words directly out of my mind. That's exactly correct. Yonie is a yoshi, something that's basic design was made by another person. Zip is something done totally and completely by me and is quite original. I don't find comfort in personalizing yoshi into something that suits me. Actually, I think yoshi looks it's very best when it looks the way it does on Nintendo's artwork.

Yeah, I know. It's been a very long time that I've been here. I've made all 1000+ posts under that name, and it's what I've come to go by here. I'm kicking myself for not deciding to do this sooner, when I first had this thought. It probably would have been a better time then. I, too, have noticed the changes of people here from yoshies to something else, but I can assure you, this change by me is not a change for attention or a change to copy someone. This is based completely on my reasons above.


Thanks everyone for your opinions! It's nice to hear that people don't want to attack me after this. Believe me, you have no idea how difficult it was to do this. I mean, literally, hours of self -preparation. Seeing that you all seem to be okay with this, I feel a lot better and it's a load off of my sholders.
