Yay! Tim is back... with some vengeance apparently XD. Kind of a weird request you got there, though...
Anyway, I'm just glad you're back. I mean, while you were gone, there was virtually no staff members tending to these boards at all. I was desperate enough to selfishly ask Soul if I could be admin. Oy, sorry about that, man... Kind of losing a bit faith around here.
As for the total purging of these boards... uhhh, as much as the old members don't exactly dig it, partially including myself, I don't really approve of it much myself. Reason being it'd be totally unfair to the new people around here. Us old members can't always have what we want. It can sometimes be hard to deal with new things when you're only used to the old.

If that's the way it's gotta be, then go for it. Possibly sticky this?
You know, sooner or later, someone's going to come here and think "OMG!!1 I don't see a favorite yoshi color thing here. I can't believe no one's ever thought of it before! I better make it right away, I'm so smart. Now where is my juice box?"
I hope that you won't spaz out too much if, after the area is wiped clean with HF, some of the troublesome topics come back.

You're going to clear Yoshi Café?
Well... I guess I'm gonna have to sift through and relive a few memories before the posts are lost forever.

Topics we(we as in the staff at tyfn) close are put into a read only forum and are archived so people can still look, but not reply. There was one thread that should have gone in there, but it got deleted, so I deadmined and demodded him. I was NOT happy. That's what we do anyway, but I thought it was a rather good idea seeing the position you find yourself in. Member's feeling rather impartial to certain topics and all. During my time as admin on there, I've noticed alot of newer members like to see the forums history before joining. Also, while I think about it, alot of newbies are good members, while some haven't read rules or anything, so maybe if a newbie that hasn't done anything on any board before looks at the way people post before joining, they'll either join in and become a good member, or go to another forum that allows 3 word posts. Some rule reinforcement might be in order too. Quote the actual board rules when someone does bad. This will make them see sense, and maybe even get them to read the full set of rules. When newbies register and make hello topics, say something like "Welcome! Read the rules, get on with the mods and admins and you'll have a great time". You're showing them you mean business while being friendly about it. Just some points I'd mention... I'm doing a revision of the rules soon for tyfn with the board root admin too, so keep an eye out for some pointers I mention in there.

I think a general rules topic in here would do...
I don't think many people really look in the other forum for the rules.

Fangorn Forest lies on our doorstep. BURN IT!!! (Heh, I'm crazy about Lord of the Rings.) Burn it all! Yes! Every single stinking topic! ("-) Funny coming from someone who registered this year. There are alot of topics in here that mean something to the older members around here. None particularly for me since I've not been around long enough. I registered august last year, so I've got a while yet until I can consider myself an oldie round here. It's upto the people in command, but I say everything should go into a read only archive. You're not limited to a certain number of posts, topics or forums anyway. Everyone's happy then...

Yeah, I think I've seen a system like that before... the thread is locked and moved into a "Junk" forum, or something.
Sounds like a decent plan...

yea, you dont have to lock and move all the threads. any thread that is copied, or unimportant should be deleted. (my opinion)

I did some research into the capabilities of these boards.
It's not possible to 'mass move' or 'mass prune' topics, however, it is possible to rename this Yoshi Cafe to, say, 'Our History', for example, and mark it read-only, then create a new forum inside of this category called 'Yoshi Cafe', thus, replacing the old one.
Making it read only seems to be done by setting the permissions for 'Reply' and 'Create new thread' to 'Administrators, GMods and mods' and leaving 'View' as guests and members.
That's the only way I could see you doing it.
