Alright, it's my turn! I've had inspiration for a few stories, but they just never clung. So finally I've decided to get dooown! I couldn't think of a good title so, there it is.
Prologue
Agh! I should’ve done this earlier! He thought, frantically writing on his blank sheet of paper, the loops and twirls of his pen slowly forming words and sentences that vaguely resembled a language. Had it not been for speed, he would most likely have been able to make legible work. But it wasn’t an option at this point. Teacher talking! What’s he saying? Instantly, the frantic yoshi put another note-filled sheet of paper on top and started writing what his teacher was rambling about. The information seemed to enter in his mind just long enough to write what it was before leaving the way it came in. After the teacher had made a pause, he switched over to the other sheet and frantically continued his essay. The teacher’s not talking, good, it’ll give me a little time to *SLAM* WOAH!! He looked up from his paper as a ruler had been slammed onto his desk. The teacher had caught him. Or had he? “You seem to be taking an impressive amount of notes young man,” the teacher said casually. “But please, you really don’t have to. I insist you do the rest at break.” The whole class was now peering right at the two. Avan looked at the teacher one last time before putting his work into his over-stuffed and disorganized binder before he reluctantly stood at the ready for more notes. I’ll never pass school at this rate…
Avan was the last out of the class, he had done the most he could on his work, but he would have to finish it sometime before the teacher collected it next period. Ten whole minutes to finish some History work, wow. Avan was just about to settle down and work when he saw… or rather heard… someone shout “OW!!” Avan turned around just in time to see someone get pegged by a hacky sack. A group of yoshies were playing one of his favorite games, one some people know as “Pain.” Avan put his work away and asked if he could join the other yoshies in their game. “Sure,” one of them said. “You know the rules?” “Yup,” Avan said. One yoshi threw the sack, another hit it, another hit it, and then another. Instantly after the third hit, Avan made for the sack and caught it, tossing it at the closest person and pegging them squarely in his fleeing tail-side. “Gotcha!” Avan loudly pronounced as the yoshi rubbed himself, but smiling contently. The sack was put into play, over and over until the “bell” rang. There was really no bell, it was broken, and so teachers were set to warn kids when class was starting. Avan picked up his stuff and started walking away, realizing he had played instead of done his work. Aw crud… why has my Id wanted instant gratification, instead of the superego warning me it was morally wrong to play before work...Well; mom told me yellow yoshies were supposed to be the kind that just couldn’t sit still.
Avan made it to his class, getting his essay on the French Revolution out and adding the finishing touches to make it look like an acceptable. The teacher started off by saying what they would do today. They would be watching a video, and then they would be collecting homework. YES! THANK WHATEVER BEING IS UP THERE!! He said to himself in excitement. He worked and worked while the teacher put the movie in. It was called “A tale of two Cities”; an old movie to help us show… well actually, Avan hadn’t seen it before so he didn’t even know. But, alas, as Avan was about to write the single, final, concluding paragraph… the movie started and his attention was pulled to the television screen. He gazed intently, and by the time he was over, he was still not done. As soon as the movie was paused, he worked on it frantically, but could not finish by the time the teacher collected it.
~~~
“God forbid… how long does this have to keep up??” “Until further order sir.” “I know until further order! I’ve heard that a thousand times! What I want is to end this once and for all, so we DO get a further order!” “Sir, I do not advise brute force,” “I KNOW brute force is not the best solution! We’re trying everything, all the way down to propaganda! We just can’t stop them! They appear out of nowhere and slaughter us, without leaving a good deal of information where they came from! It’s impossible! We need more than an army, we need something big… we need something greater than anything anyone’s ever seen before! We need a god on our side!” The man sighed and sat down at his desk, fumbling with the little 8 ball on his desk. “What are we going to do?”
***
I FORGOT TO ADD THIS!!
I need two or three entries from various people to take part in the story. Supernatural powers are legal, but will only be used to a certain extent if you do have some. NO deformations or transformation (claws, metamorph, wings, third eye, etc...)
'scuse the double post, but here's the first official chapter. The other part was a prologue, despite having a lack of prologueishness.
Chapter 1: Avan's Dragons
Oh god oh god… I had three chances to do my work and I missed all of them. What am I going to do? Avan really did care about his grades in school…just… not as much as fooling around. Avan looked in front of him, ready to cross the street when the light changed. He would then begin the half-mile walk to his house, and once there, he would do work. Or at least that’s what he’s been saying to himself for days now. “Get home, work. Get home, work. Come on, it’s not that hard…” he was saying to himself. The light turned green and he started walking across the street, onto the sidewalk, past the grocery store, past Starbucks and In-n-Out and towards rows and rows of houses. “So many houses…” he said to himself. “How many yoshies are there on this island? How many yoshies and humans in the world? How can enough food be given to us all?” the very awe at people being able to feed billions of others was impressive. Although, rare was a yoshi to leave the islands dedicated solely to yoshies, and most likely, Avan would never have the chance to leave, Avan still imagined the hoards of gaping, reaching hands, demanding food. Humans themselves rarely wandered onto the Yoshi Island, but wandered their gigantic continents. Avan started daydreaming…it must be wonderful to be a human…I heard they’re born smarter…they have gigantic land masses and open spaces…they don’t have such a huge encumbering nose… and they’ve got hair! What would life be like as a human?
Avan had been walking for about half an hour now, wondering about those stories he had read about humans in brilliant armor taking down beasts many times their size, but they were legends and he knew it. There were no dragons today, and Avan knew it. Although, a few dragons still lay out there, some with, some without his realization, great foes blocking his path, and Avan was secretly still looking for them. His first dragon was that of exploration… he’d always wanted to explore the human world, but unless he worked in government, he would never sail to the human lands. Another dragon blocking his path was his own shyness, constantly battering on him to keep quiet and not make a fool of himself. Dragons were blocking his every move, they were walling him in. There was one that kept him chewing his nails, there was one that made him devour ice cream at a ferocious rate, and there was the king of all that kept him from being focused. These dragons were not 60 foot flying, bad-breathed lizards, but just as bad. They kept him from going on, kept him from living freely. Obstacles he had yet to conquer, blocked by a mighty foe unable to overcome. Avan thought about these dragons constantly, and he knew he would need to face his fears and foes… but not now… for now all he had to do was get his work done and hope he could get a good job in… what? 6-10 YEARS? Avan sighed.
~~~
“Alright, get it over with; you’re here to deliver bad news, aren’t you?” “Unfortunately, I am. A rumor has started to spread, possibly adverse propaganda, supposedly that many of our men had admitted to this project and that we were planning to launch a nuke.” “A nuke? We fight for peace, not war, and they dare… that’s propaganda for ya. It came in a rumor? Dang, they sure know how to do a job right. I just wish I did…”
***
I still wouldn't mind a few people's willingness to share their characters in this story.

Even though the action hasn't developed yet, I like how the storyline is going. It's also got a nice theme.

Yay, someone else saw the story ;D
Anyways, I'm getting it done little by little... so here's the next part. For the first few chapters, I'm only introducing characters and such so...yeah.
Chapter 2: Avan and co.
Avan could see his house now. It was on the farther side of town, in your average middle class neighborhood. Two stories and dull white like the others, and the first thing you would see was the white gate surrounding a small garden with a hedge to back it up. Once inside the garden, you could see the door and four windows, two on the bottom half of the house and two on the top half, sort of like the kind of house you might see a toddler draw when he’s told to draw a house. Avan never really made it to his house though… as he was walking towards the hedge surrounding the house, something came out of the house right next door to him. The thing flew towards Avan and before he realized something was coming towards him, his legs were now soaked and his expression a priceless mix of shock and surprise.
“Aw crud, way too short!” A voice called from the direction of the bomb. Avan’s eyes slanted as he looked toward the neighbor’s window. “Yosheeeeee… is that you?” He said, trying to sound threatening, but finishing entertained. A little green face peered out the window and said, “You betcha! Who else is gonna to toss a little fun at you? Get over here; I need to talk to you.” Avan laughed and shouted back, “Aw no ya don’t, you already wet me enough.” Yoshee from her window lifted two balloons, filled to the brim and with disappointment let out, “Awww… what am I gonna do with these then? I’ve got to wet someone!” She tossed one of the balloons as hard as she could, and it seemed to turn into a spinning…something. If you’ve ever thrown a water balloon, it changes shape if you give it a nice spin. This balloon flew toward Avan, who had just enough time to jump out of the way before the balloon hit where he was standing and spraying water all over the car that had been right there. Avan laughed and cried out, “I’ll see ya later! Maybe once I’m done with my work we can get some other kids and do something!” “Alright!” the voice answered, stowing the last balloon in a safe place for later.
~~~
“Sir, we’ve got some good news and some bad news.” “Tell me the bad news first.” “Alright, the bad news is that the propaganda sent against us seems to be spreading very fast, and already we appear to be an even bigger enemy than before.” “And the good news?” “Good news is that the site you wanted up is…well, up. We’ve loaded it with all the evidence possible that we aren’t the enemy,” “Did you add in the line I asked to have added in?” “Yes, ‘don’t trust us, don’t trust government, do your own research and trust yourself.’” “Now that I’ve heard it for the thousandth time, I wish I could have come up with something better… but I guess it’s a start.”
Heheh, water balloons get you every time. I'm wondering who those guys in the second part are. You add a little more information every chapter, which is good. When a different character begins talking, it always starts another paragraph. It's easier to read, and it's pretty much grammar rules. And it makes your chapters look longer most of the time =D
I like it, it's coming along nicely. The concept of having Yoshis and Humans in a world together is different, at least I've never heard of it before. The second part is very mysterious, I can't wait to find out what's going on!
I'm SO SORRY, I've taken a temporary vacation from YC, and it's still going on, but the guilt of not having written a chapter in so long has come to bite me!!
Chapter 3: Meet the neighborhood
Avan marched into his house and set his bag by the shoe-rack near the front door, right where people could walk in and trip over it. His house wasn’t too shabby, kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom on the bottom floor, another bathroom and three other small empty rooms upstairs, all arranged to form a two story cube. Avan didn’t spend a lot of time pondering what his house looked like though, and took out the books and binders he needed for his homework, waltzed out of the house, sat down on the grass and promptly opened his assignment notebook, followed by a biology book and a sheet of paper.
It didn’t last long, fifteen minutes later he had finished his biology and ran off, leaving all his stuff on the spot. His neighborhood wasn’t quite dull repetitiveness of some neighborhood. Here, one house might be white with a red tile top, another may be a shade of brown with a bright yellow roof, and perhaps the next might be a mix of green and yellow with roses in the garden. In fact, that’s where Avan was headed, the green-n-yellow house that sheltered another of his friends, Pedro. Avan knocked on the door, and waited for a response, which he got in a matter of seconds. Pedro was a funny kind of yoshi, he was rather small for his age, dark green, and had teeth more ferocious than a blender blade. Course, his teeth weren’t the only ferocious thing. As Avan knocked, he looked left and right, expecting something, looked up, and saw Pedro jumping down on him from a window. Avan managed to jump backwards and out of the way before Pedro’s belly flop could hit him. As Avan landed on his hind, Pedro changed his flop to his feet, and looked at him.
“Awww… You couldn’t have stayed there a little longer?” Pedro said, half-disappointed, half-grinning, and half-laughing. “I’m sorry, but I like my body the way it is, whole. So, you think you’ve got time to play?” Avan asked, despite that he knew the answer. “Why would I be out here if I didn’t have time to come out?” “I TAKE THAT AS A YES!! Now come on, let’s find some other kids!”
For the next ten minutes, Avan and Pedro were knocking on the doors of several houses on the block, gathering more and more kids of all colors and sizes until they were back to the center of the street, gathered in front of Avan’s white house. There was only one person missing, and he had a feeling it might have not been the best choice to leave her till last, but he didn’t want to get wet too early… He slowly and cautiously came up to Yoshee’s front door…
Avan knew it was coming, just not from where. He knew Yoshee still had a water balloon, he just didn’t know where she would be to toss it. Unfortunately, slowly and cautiously wasn’t the way to come up to this door. A few steps to the door, he heard Pedro shouting, “Watch out!” Avan jumped around, and came face to face with Yoshee. “Hello Avan,” she calmly said, before sending the water balloon she was holding up right on top of Avan’s head. Pedro and the other kids were giggling while Yoshee held that smug expression of satisfaction on her face. “I’ma gonna get you sometime…someday…” Avan said, retaining a smile. Pedro, who had warned Avan too late on purpose, shouted out, “Hey! We don’t have all day! Let’s get to hide and seek!” “Not it!” called out Amber, a rather tall pink yoshi of the group. Everyone started shouting, calling NOT IT, until the person who was it would be decided. It seemed to be a tie, so Yoshee called out “NOT IIIIIT!” and everyone followed suit. There was a clear person who hadn’t said NOT IT, and it was Pedro.
~~~
“A site, just a website… is that the best I could come up with? I mean, we’ve got editorials, we have facts on it that are directly linked to sure sources, we’ve got pictures, we’ve got… a lot of stuff, but what if there was something more I could do. I mean, why should a website be the one thing to persuade people? Sometimes it seems so futile to fight against such a powerful force, but the truth has to be let out! It seems so unfair that a mere hundred are fully aware of what’s going on, a million are pretty sure what’s going on, and the rest of the world just so oblivious. A site’s not going to be that great in the end. It is well thought out, but what if… I know… why have the information on just the site? Why not broadcast it everywhere else that cannot be politically influenced? Pamphlets with a catchy front, ‘accidentally’ left stuck between a park bench, a lost wallet with a news article, the website address etched into a desk. This could be better, yes, the truth must be out!”

hmmmm.... The concepts are interesting an original, both in terms of fanart (yoshi an humans sharing a world) and in terms of writing (two different settings that seem to have nothing to do with eachoter, even though the readers just 'know' that these settings are related somehow). Keeping this story going might improve you're already nice writing skills and style. Good work so far!

Alright! First off, I'M back in action, and second, this CHAPTER'S back in action! Yay!
`~`~`~
Chapter 4: The Truth is Under There
“38… 39… 40! READY OR NOT PUNKS, HERE I COME!!” exclaimed a hoping, eager Pedro. He had started counting at the mailbox in front of Avan’s house and had carefully listened to where everyone’s steps were headed. He followed a pair that had been leading out of the block and farther down the block, possibly leading to a tree or bush or underneath something, possibly a good hider would have been creative enough to go in very unusual places, but he knew where these had vaguely headed. The limit was this block, and the small park at the end of it. There was space between some houses, not every house had a hedge or a fence. Some even had outhouses or sheds that would work as hiding – not everyone had plumbing or some electricity. Pedro made his way towards a bush separating his house from Amber’s, knowing something might have hidden in that direction. Behind the bush was empty, and the inside of the thick bush was empty too. A yoshi COULD have hidden in the bushes and trees around the neighborhood without being spotted, but if they were empty they were empty.
“That’s odd; I could have sworn I heard something…” Pedro uttered, looking around puzzled. There were plenty more trees and bushes to be checked, but he knew he heard something. Then it struck him, someone had not hid in the bush, but near it. The closest potential hiding spot was a tool shed; the rest was really open ground aside from the bush. Pedro ran in the shed screaming “RAAAH!!” but he could see there was no one in it except a few tools, unless someone hid behind something. He busily searched inside a crate, near large planks, but found no one.
He then heard giggling and shushing, then fast paced footsteps. There had been two yoshi’s hiding, but behind the shed, and they just made a run for it. Pedro dashed around articles in the shed, trying with difficulty to reach the door when his foot got caught in something and he fell. He quickly got up, but he was still hooked, and whatever it was wouldn’t budge, it was metallic, solid, and hook like, judging by the way it wouldn’t move the way a wire or stuck plank moves. He took a step back, freed himself from the object and dashed out, but he didn’t see the two yoshi’s who had just run; they had already re-hidden before he had the chance.
Pedro cussed and left the shed fast as he could, praying in hope the two yoshi’s hadn’t re-hidden very well. He followed their footsteps out of the shed and dashed towards the end of the street, very close to the park, and caught an odor. There was a yoshi very close… but he couldn’t tell from which way. He looked back and saw the only potential hiding spot being a recycling bin, an original hiding spot. He approached it and the odor of yoshi grew stronger, there was someone in there. Pedro wanted to guess who had thought of this spot, and who would throw themselves in a recycling bin, a very smelly one at that. Pedro lost the yoshi scent when he got too close, being replaced by that of trash, mostly that of old soft drinks, yellow newspapers, and a little mold. Pedro opened the lid. “Well hello Avan,” he said, seconds before he opened it. He was wrong though, it wasn’t Avan, it was Amber and Kelly, the tall pink yoshi and her littler sister. They wouldn’t have thought of hiding in there…
“Wrong! It’s us,” Amber announced as Pedro laid eyes on the bundle of pink and white. Amber was at the bottom of the recycling, with her sister on her belly, in a very awkward, cramped position. Pedro picked Kelly up and helped her out, placing her on the cement, still smelling of trash. Amber, in turn, jumped out of the trash can and landed gracefully on the cement.
“So, girls… why were you hiding in the recycling bin?” Pedro asked, puzzled.
“Well, when we were behind the shed, I giggled and we had to change spots. We heard you coming and didn’t have enough time to think about it, so we hopped in here!” Kelly said, smiling and talking with a high pitched voice to accompany her small stature.
The game ended a few minutes later, having found everyone except one person… Yoshee. Where had she been hiding? They still didn’t know, and everyone knowing Yoshee, knew she wouldn’t give up her spot that easily, they’d all spend the night looking for her if she didn’t want to give up her spot.
“I know,” Amber called out to everyone. “How about we-“
“EEEEEEEEEE!!”
“What the..? That sounded like Yoshee!” Amber proclaimed, the scream had come from the shed, and everyone dashed towards it, rushing inside to see what the humble jumble was going on. As soon as everyone was inside, the door closed behind them and the yoshi’s were left in only the light of holes in the shed, and since it was getting dark, wasn’t a whole lot. In the shed, there was the music of “oof!”s and “Clunk”s and plenty of “Hey watch it!’”s. Outside, Yoshee was laughing her heart out at the clamber going on inside.
The shed door opened after about thirty seconds of eternity, and in that shed was a mess of yoshies, all bundled together, fallen over one another, with tools spread across the floor. Fortunately, the most dangerous thing that fell was a hammer, and although dangerous… and numerous… they hadn’t hit anything except Avan’s shoe, and considering the hammer’s weight, was enough to cause a decent toe-ache.
Pedro got up and started saying, “Alright Yoshee, you’ve had your fun. Now let’s get – oof!” As he tried to finish his sentence, he tripped on something and fell on a dark blue yoshi who had also been playing.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t feel like getting oofed right now,” Yoshee said, smiling at both the joke and the fallen Pedro.
“Aw my gosh, that’s twice now I’ve tripped over this thing…” Pedro exclaimed, taking more time to examine the object in the dim light. He could vaguely tell the outline of the thing. It looked black in the dark, it was a ring shape, but it was made of metal.
“… What thing?” Avan asked, crawling from under Amber’s weight and going to examine the thing more closely.
“I don’t know, it’s hooked to the ground though,” Pedro said.
“What… thing…” Yoshee came over too, and everyone was up, crowding around the item. Pedro tried to pick it up, but it was connected to the floor. Pedro tried again, but a little harder, setting his two feet on the ground and pulling, but to no avail.
“Hang on, let me try,” Amber said, emerging from the small crowd and looking at the thing. “Wait a minute…” she said, in a tone of having just found out something. She took the thing with two hands, situated her feet away from the object, and took a tug-o-war stance, yanking the thing and… it budged. It seemed to resist, but it had moved… slightly. “Wrong angle,” she said, walking to the other side of it and pulling. All of a sudden, something seemed to lift around the ring. The floor was moving with it, just a small square. “Hey, don’t just stand there, help!” Amber cried. Immediately, Kelly grasped her sister’s waist and tugged, followed by Yoshee, then Avan (although a little shyly), then Pedro, followed by the three other yoshies that were there, making a chain of yoshi’s, tugging at the thing, which with their combined strength, gave way rather fast. The ring, attached to stone, was heaved up, and turned the way a door on the floor would… a trap door.
The yoshi party gathered around the opening… it was dark, too dark to see. There was no light source down there, nor did the dim twilight help much.
“What… is this… whose shed is this anyhow??” Avan proclaimed, looking down at the deep hole.
“I don’t know! It’s been there since I moved in. I thought it was Amber’s shed,” Pedro said looking at Amber, who returned the glare.
“And I thought it was your shed!” Amber returned, in a high, defiant voice.
“What could be in there…?” Avan whispered.
“I don’t know…” Yoshee said, “But tomorrow after school, we’re going to find out!”
“That’s the spirit,” Pedro returned in a low, sarcastic tone.
~~~
“Hrmm… I wonder… I know! We could… no, I’m thinking too crazy. Who’d believe what a footnote on the bottom of a page of a science book said? Besides, how am I going to implant that?” “Uh… sir?” Crap, “Tell me you didn’t hear that.” “Hear what?” “Good… now what is it?” “It’s getting late, and these people have to go to work. We can fight, but only at certain times.” “Right, graveyard shift and all, I have to work too. Dismissed. Everybody.” The messenger left the room and his voice could be heard, letting everyone know it was time to go. Back in His office, He said to himself, “What kind of organization needs funding from its employee’s… and makes them work over time graveyard hours instead of a normal life. No wonder we have few people.”
