I generally divide Smash Bros. proficiency into 4 points... Know your character's moves, and how to use them - You should know the extent of what your character can do with the B button, and how best to use them in any situation. Use Smash attacks - It's not called "Smash" Bros. for nothing. Learn how to smash (tap a direction and A), how to time and charge, what the different characters different directions do (like, passive vs agressive smashes(whether it deals damage or sends the opponents flying)) Blocking and Dogding - It's important to be able to avoid taking damage and, more importantly, be knocked around. Dodge attacks. Items - Know what items do, know what's worth going after, and learn to throw items to deal damage almost instantly.
Hm.. does that make any sense? Sorry; I was kinda rushed... plus its rather hard to give generic advice... Still, that's one of the ways I look at it.

OK but what about on classic. You have to beat the master hand and crazy hand w/330HP. And adventure the people who walk around knock you far!

Master hand is easy on hard... if you use the right characters.
Ganodorfs UP + A smash can deal insane damage when its fully charged.
Then theres Yoshis DOWN + A bicycle kick... thats always good to give some pain.
Try to concentrayte on one hand at a time, it makes it a lot easuier...

Ok but what about adventure. The koopas, goombas, redeads, likelikes, octrocks, topis, and polar bears i am a sucker for. I can't avoid them. Do you know of anything that could help me there?

Roll, Roll, Dodge, and mid-air dodge everything like Crazy. As for the enemies in adventure... I don't know... they were usually to slow to prove any problem whatsoever to me...

Simple answer: don't walk into them I find they aren't really a significant threat... just don'r get careless and walk into them In a pinch you can always grab them, and lob them at someone else, or eat them if your playing as Kirby or Yoshi.

I never knew you could grab them! That should make it much easier.

I am glad i read this even though i dont have gamecube! I went over to a freinds house who just got a new Gamecube with Super Smash Bros Melle and we fought a match. 17 to be exact! (i won 10) I have got to say one thing.. COOL GAME! The controls were a bit hard at first... Could never find the B button.. (why is it in a wierd place?)i played as Link And Kirby... Yoshi is a great Fighter, That egg thingy, where he turn into one and bumps people around, is Great! Even though the very first time i tried it i kept falling off.. I never used his chew attack seeing as how alot of people hated it.. I love how he trots! Its so cute, and the little sound it makes when each foot hits the ground! .. Got a Dark Blue yoshi, and proclaimed him Boshi.

Ehh, all the characters 'attack in grab' moves are carp anyway. They do like 1-2%, at best... throws are a lot better.
Randomly, I don't know what Yoshi'd do to damage people while they're in his mouth... chewing seems logical.
