Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

In the travel through Bowser's castle to get to Smithy, there is a word problem that must be figured out to pass. It invovles Kipp, Boo, Goo, and Bones. Apparently, they were involved in some kind of multi-sporting event. Does anybody know how to figure it out? (Besides trial and error and mapping out all the possibilities.) I made a record of all that was said, even tried to make a little chart to map our what each should have placed. Another question related to this: Is the place ment relative to any particular event or to all events combined (an overall score)?

(I was quite good with word problems in school, but this one just didn't come to me — or did it suffer in the translation?)

That was the door I always avoided...
I was never, ever, EVER able to figure that out, particularily since their standings were changed everytime you did it. Seriously, just avoid that room and do other ones to ocmplete it... like the Barrel one.
