This is pretty weird. My GameCube lately, plays the disk, then after about 10 min. won't read it anymore. But then after a few days, I turned it on and I could hear it running, but the orange light won't come on.
Any help on this? Is it dead?

Probably from my experiences. You're hardly the first -- seems Gamecubes all around do this. They seem to just up'n die randomly, maybe they will, maybe they won't - but I've experienced two (under supremely good care) that have for reasons unexplained. Stupid as it is, I wonder if a delicate mechanism in them could be affected by power surges?

Mine used to do that. When it happened to me, the reader thing would start to move up and down to read the disc, but at about halfway there, it would stop, then I'd get the error message. The only game that would work was Animal Crossing, since you can actually take the game out and it will still play it. I think in the end, I just pushed the reader thing up and down a lot until it could do that on its own.
Oh, this has also happened to my cousins too. They never tried to fix it, and their on their third GameCube right now.

How old is the cube? If it's more than three years and it's been through a lot, then it's probably just dying, like mine did. My first GC did the exact same thing for a while so I just bought a new one. If you can't figure out what's wrong with it, just buy a new one, which shouldn't be any trouble because they're pretty cheap nowadays.

Mine did the same thing. I got mad at it and burned it and threw it out the window. No, not really. What I just did was lived with it and got a new one. After that, I took the old one to school and busted it apart with a hammer with some friends Mr. Les was awesome. XD

Mine does that sometimes, but it's not too bad. I just open the top of the Gamecube, spin the disk around, and close it up. It tends to resolve it. Or at least I think that's what I did. Cubey's been a good boy lately. Kind of cool since I've had it like three/four years now. :3 I'll be sad if it does break, though, because it's unlikely I can get a new one. Too expensiiiive, and I do want to actually get a Wii in my lifetime.

Too expensive? Places near here are selling Gamecubes and two games for £50 now. Its kind of depressing when I think about it :-\

Considering I don't have the money to get the games themselves, that is expensive for me. =/ Parents aren't too willing to spend money on that kind of thing right now, and all.

Check the disk too. My problems for my cube came from damaged disks.

My gamecube hasnt had any problems at all ever since I got it like 2-3 years ago XD.
My cousin has though. We compared it to other systems that had problems with stuff like that and still couldnt find a solution.

I've had my gamecube since it's release, so about 4 years, and it hasn't played up at all. My friend had this problem however but it was never fixed. Your best bet is getting a new one, there are some shops near where I live selling a gamecube for about £10, which is nothing basically (about $19 - $20).

Wow, you guys have way cheaper Gamecubes than where I am. They still cost around $100 for me.
Oh, and if you've had your Gamecube for less than a year, you could call the customer service people and they'll fix it for free.

We got a platinum Gamecube given to us for Christmas of 2003, but then it stopped working a year later near the end of 2004. The only way I remember the dates is because Yoshiken kept wanting to take it apart for me so he could try dusting the inside, but I didn't want him to. XD We didn't know what was wrong. It would work sometimes, but very rarely. And when it did work, it'd usually stop in the middle of the game.
We didn't know how to solve the problem, so we ended up just buying a new Gamecube. And it's still working to this day, so yay~

My SNES has outlasted all my other systems. Why can't Nintendo be that efficient any more? =<
...Anyways, I've been having that same problem since about the start of this year. It won't even read the good disks any more.

I've had my GameCube for two and a half years, and mine still runs perfectly, with only the occasional errors (but I'm convinced those errors have to do with the games since it only affects two games). I've never had a maor malfunction with any of my gaming equipment (then again, I don't use it as frequently as other people), so I have no answer for it, except get a new one; they are incredibly cheap nowadays.

I've had my GameCube since 2002, it runs just fine, no problems at all. I have though, experienced a breakdown of my PS2. One day my PS2 stopped working, it was running real rough and it scratched a game of mine. I had only had my PS2 for about 3 years and I was a little confused. I was quick to tell my dad and we got a new PS2. Strangly, about a month later (and after a few attempted repairs and punches by myself) it started working perfectly again. It's kinda cool cause I have 2 PS2s. I keep one in my room and my sister has the old one. Strange huh?

Yeah I had one like that. I think what happened is that the fan inside weakens until it doesn't really move. Then, the inside of it overheats, destroying it from the inside. It would only play for like 10 minutes max before dying. That's what happened to mine, but I got a new one. ^^
