Surprisingly not actually. =P
They're already used in a lot of the newest mobile phones. They take up (almost literally) no space and still have a capacity over over 128mb etc. Panasonic made a SD adaptor which is the exact size and shape of an SD card. You just slide the miniSD card inside it and then you can put the whole thing in any normal SD slot or connect it to a PC.
So it manages to have a place without being too impractical if you're careful.
Think about it. If Nintendo games came on these and there was an SD adaptor type unit, you could load 3 or 4 games onto one SD card, which you could switch between at will, and select which game you wanted to load from a menu screen. You could carry 3 or 4 games of your choice with you at all times without worrying about dropping them, since they're safe inside the console.

Yeah, Nintendo always manages to shock me with how small every new console is, and yet, how much power they all have. I really want to see what they can cram in with a console the size of an N64 these days, if they can cram so much power into something you can hold in the palm of your hand.
On a related note, Nintendo's consoles are teaching me to take better care of my things. I guess I had better learn if I don't want to lose all my games, so I guess you could call that a silver lining.
