Dude, the 64, totally. I still have calluses on my left thumb from using that crappy controller at my dad's house, we've been playing that game every weeked since it came out.
ONE DECADE OF MARIO KARTING, BABY!

Heh... I always hated MK64. It seemed really slow paced compared to the the SNES original, that and I didn't like the fact that the tracks seemed to go on forever, as well as the fact I didn't find them that interesting.

I have to admit, the Mario Kart DS is freaking awesome and all, and I'm very sure it's second on my list. Its original tracks are really nice and of awesome length and space, and I love how they brought back some previous tracks, but I'm just very disappointed in its selection of Mario Kart 64 tracks. I mean.. come on, now XD! What were they thinking when choosing Frappe Snowland and MOO MOO Farm? Crikey! Those are the most forgotten ones, and for very good reason... They should've brought back Yoshi's Valley or awesome Wario's Stadium, or at LEAST the Koopa Beach one.

There are so many better things about 64, then Double Dash!!...like, there were no Ghosts in DD!!, and you couldn't run over people when there was a Lightning. =/

Super Mario Kart for the Super is the best (well it was the first one ever made) I could dominate any competition with Koopa Troopa!!

I personally hated Double Dash myself. I didn't like how you HAD to have 2 people in a cart. They should've let you decide that for yourself. >(

Yeah, personally I thought Double Dash was a bit of a joke myself. The music, the physics, the feel of it al... I don't know, it's just somthing that doesn't seem right, or far too new.
For one, I mean, how could they give up the R jump? Yeeesh....

MK:DD was wayyyyyyyyyyy too annoying with items... many a time I'd be blazing a lead, and blammo I get a blue shell or two and I drop a few places right at the finish line... that and the power slide boost was essentially worthless which didn't help.
I didn't mind the two person per kart thing, just the sheer reliance on items was a pain in the ass.

I 64 version was the best, even though the graohics had sharp edges. I still loved the game.

I always get blasted with some blue shells or just ANYTHING to get me out of first place... forever...

The only really great thing in MK64 was battle mode on the Block Fort. The rest of it wasn't really all that special. The items were there to keep it close but it kind of got annoying when a winning tactic is simply to drive slowly on purpose in order to get much better items. And in MK64, you got a lot of brilliant items easily.
For races, I'd personally prefer MKDD for the gameplay style if only the tracks were better. Atleast Baby Park made up for a lot on its own. One thing I liked in DD was that you could turn the items off and turn it into a driving skill racer. That made a difference.
Overall though, I'd go with MKDS. Best balenced and fun gameplay style. Though a 4 player version of the original MK would be awesome.

Eh, I guess I see your point about the MK64 items... though the funny thing is, everytime me and my dad played, whenever I fell behind I got stars and lightning bolts and the whole nine yards that put me three lightyears ahead, and when my dad was behind he got mushrooms and banana bunches XD; But it's kinda like a family tradition to play that game so I can't drop it Also, it shaped me up to be the MKDS racer I am today. At least, I think so.

Mario Kart 64 was terrible. Thats probably my least favourite out of the entire series, followed by Super Circuit.
I thought Double Dash was quite fun. I think it was a nice change, at least...
Super Mario Kart is the best game, because if it wasn't for that we'd never have any other Mario Kart sequels. And it was just plainly great game.

Wow, this is a reaaally close one.
But I have to say MK64. Not sure why, but I totally loved that game. It was especially fun at the Filipino parties where everyone was itching to play. And everyone wanted to be Yoshi, dagnabbit. XD
Super Mario Kart is extremely close in 2nd, though. Maybe even tied. I loved the music in that one. Not to mention all the nostalgia that comes along with it. I really need to find an emulator for that...
And MK:DD was okay... I guess. I never really got into it, for whatever reason. The music wasn't that great and it wasn't all that fast-paced as I thought it'd be.
