As I chatted with Strangie today, I thought this might be an interesting topic. What was the first game you fell so much in love with, you still think of it as *the* best game you've ever played... and why? Also, would you recommend the same game to others?
At present, I'd place Final Fantasy 9 at the top of my favourite game of all time list, simple because it was a well orchestrated, had an amazing soundtrack to it and an excellent storyline. The game originally took me 3 months to complete (Having been the first fantasy game, full stop, I played) and the ending made the satisfaction of playing such a wonderful game worth it.
Would I recommend it to others? Hell yeah. If you've never played a fantasy game, or never thought you'd get into fantasy, play it, and you will remain addicted to it, and want to get all the other FF games along with it. That one game got me into fantasy style games bigstyle. If you don't have a PS1, it's worth getting, just for that game in my opinion.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
For Castlevania, it just provided countless hours of entertainment. One of my best friends and I were in a competition, and we would always call each other on the phone when we found a new item or area. I remember us becoming so obsessed, that we printed out very long documents that told the story behind all of the monsters and weapons in the game (like where they came from in mythology and such). Heck, I still play that game to this day, even though I have all items and the highest percent of completion.
I would have said Super Smash Bros. Melee, but SOTN was out first.

Animal Crossing, hands down.
My friends aren't into that kind of game, but I always go back to playing it. There's just so much to do, and all the NES games, too bad they didn't have Metroid. Hell, that game got me my first girlfriend, and I "scored" on the first date!

I fell absolutely in love with Mario Kart 64 when I was about 5 years old, it was my very first game for the Nintendo 64, and still one of my favorites to this day. Although, I think I was a lot better at it back then...

The Silent Hill Series:
There was so much that seemed to float around the game, even from it's first release it started to be compared to Resident Evil. Which at the time was really one of the very few horror surivival games. So to be given such a name was something that was special for the time. However, such a game did not posess the same qualities that RE itself had challanged. Instead of facing the player into a world of countless walking back and forth, Silent Hill would pretty much keep you moving in a forward pattern. There were times though that would cause you to retrace your steps, and as with any game this could eventually get annoying. As well the enemies in the battles were not humans per say; the story behind them is something that is completly hard to grasp at times. You could simply put them into the scene of a deformed type of being that at once belonged to the sanity of the mortal mind. However, the monsters were illusions of the "Main Characters" fears and issues. Sort of like "Facing the things that trouble you". However, in Silent Hill these things seemed to be more deadly and wicked then the mind would make them appear.
There was also something large that differed this game away from any familiar titles in the series. While it may be hard to put down, you can imagine that the world in which the player moved was not as it seemed through the normal eye. At first the atmosphere would give off a chilling factor with the lightly falling ash and the subtle movements of the scenery. Yet this would quickly evolve into something more as the surroundings would start to alter their appearance. Becoming something that has been refrened to in the name of "The Darkness". Such a setting would place the character into a Hellish type landscape, where the majority of items would gain this rusty appearance, and the dim of any light was shaded behind the blackest smog that could be noticed. Such values only added to the magnitude of what the game already offered. Since the game was unpredictable as to when the movements were going to occur, the anticipation and worry of what would happen next were very high; likely objects that could not be fully understood through the first time anyone would take a seat in working through such levels.
There was also something about the game that kept many intrigued, this simply went into the style of the storyline itself. At times, from the first look, the script itself is actually something hard to comprehend at first. All that is really needed to be known is the fact that a mother bore a child into the world with the hopes that it would become a God. Sadly, something seems to go wrong, breaking the childs soul in half. Unfortuantly the God portion of the child is only half of it's power. This brings sorrows to the mother herself who quickly wraps around to burn the child nearly to death. Only to discover the true portion of the power hidden in her daughters dreams, as they seem to allow her to survive. It is at this time the daughter or as you could mention God plans its revenge by tearing the town into her darkest nightmares.
This game is definetly a reccomendation for anyone who adores the feel of a threatening experience, something to send a bit of shiver to the spine. While the movie might have dampered the story and the chills; the game has never faulted in its effort of making the players get freaked out by simple things.

Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts 2, but Final Fantasy X ftw. That was my first game to get me addicted, some other games didn't cut it...The Graphics were awesome, the characters, the story, it got so addictive, I played for almost 17 hours straight! I'm was in the Calm facing Defender X, but since some of my files got screwy, I'm back at some temple. I don't remember the name, but it started with a "M"...
Now if I can get my hands on Final Fantasy 7...I'll play for 30 hours, I know it'll happen one day.
I 100% agree with PFY. Play one, and you'll be addicted, for a very long time...

Could probably say three or so games/game series right now. I just like a lot of my games too much. ..Actually, I could probably say others like Banjo-Kazooie and Crash Bandicoot, but this'll do for now. Myst series is also great. . . While these aren't the first per se, I thought it would be kind of boring just to say 'Super Mario Bros. 3' being as it was definately one of the first games I ever played. I've bene playing stuff since I was two and stuff. Creatures Series: Creatures was an odd game. It was a virtual life sort of thing, where you raised, bred, fed, and otherwise kept a race of creatures known as Norns alive and thriving. It was addictive somehow; I'm pretty sure I've spent well over 200 hours playing the first three games of the series over the years since I first really started playing it when I was eight. In fact, I still play Creatures 3/Docking Station whenever I get really bored, and it still continues to relieves that said boredom. Creatures 1 has a lot of fun memories on it for me, and playing it is oddly entertaining and a nostalgia trip for me. Which is cool. But my favorite would probably have to be Creatures 2, because it was a step up from the lesser graphics, genetics, and nicer looking Norns. Creatures 3/Docking Station had some nice graphics to me -- easy on the eyes, and it looked all nice and shiny. Creatures Labs.Super Mario Bros. 3: Well now, an oldie but goodie, unlike my dad, who is just an ancient oldie. I have many, many fond memories on this game -- mostly revolving around playing it with family, and with my brother while we were still close, much closer than we are now. It's always been an amusing game, being all fun getting through all those worlds and colorful levels, and all that. I also liked how their were secret little areas. Secrets, such as secret levels and areas, in games always majorly appealed to me for some reason. Spyro the Dragon series: The first three, Playstation games starring Spyro were just amazing. The concepts, gameplay, and particularly music were just awesome. It was pretty awesome getting to control a dragon in a game for once, and Spyro was a spiffy sort. A game where you can breathe fire and be a dragon is awesome. And I loved the gems -- jewels and gems of all sorts make me happy happy. That's also why Glimmer and Crystal Islands were my favorite level designs of any game. Ever. And a lot of the songs were some of the greatest I've ever heard. I was actually listening to them earlier -- a particular favorite of mine is Crystal Flight.

Difficult question of the first game I truly fell in love with. I think it was the first Banjo-Kazooie. I really loved that game, it was so different and really fun to play. Cool music and just a lot of fun really, nothing really serious like MGS or something like that, but just a fun game that will get you addicted. The washing-machine thing was hilarious.
I also loved LoZ:LttP on the SNES. I can complete it in about 5 hours now but back then I would play for days and days, the first Zelda I played and it made me fall in love with the series. It's so well put together and very inivitive and, again, a lot of fun to play. Games have to be fun to play, tedious games suck.

There can't be one single game I've fallen in love with.. I've played and own too many (Some of you oldbies may remember the gargantuan list of games I posted in ther "My Games" topic or similar. The most recent would have to be Katamari Damacy. Its utterly ridiculous, makes no sense at all and I'm pretty sure Namco were baked when they made it. The reason I love it so much is the final level... First you start off with a 20cm target to reach, inside a kids room. You beat that, then you can roll up some more stuffi n the garden. Reach a target there, then you go out into the shooping district, where you can roll up an entire restaurant interior. Some more rolling, and you can take a visit to the City Zoo, then roll that up too into your Katamari, which it probably hovering around 30-40 metres by the time you've rolled up all the animals, as well as the regions SuperHero, Jumboman. Later, you can barrel off into the sea, then roll up a port town, starting with small fishing boats and houses, but eventually you work your way up to skyscrapers, oil tankers, and Boeing 747s... Around 70 Metres you leave the coast and roll into the city, absorbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Parthenon, Big Ben, as well as the Petronas Towers which by my recollection is the largest building in the world. Don't ask why they're all in the same city. By now your Katamari should be nearing 150 metres. Grabbing a Giant Octopus to push you over the threshold, you are then turned loose on the entire continent where you get to amass entire islands and mountains into your ball. To top it off, one you reach the highest diameter, you can end your run by rolling up the King Of All Cosmos, as well the rest of the Royal Family. All the while listening to possibly one of the best soundtracks in any game, ever released, ever, ever. If that isn't a slice of fried gold I don't know what is.

It's hard to only choose one game. However, I can tell you that the first game I've fallen in love with has to be Donkey Kong Country.

Id have to go with Graedius on this one ^^, FF6 was just so.....undescribable in words. Its impossible not to love that game. Everything was phenomenal in the design and gameplay ^^.
FF Tactics (not Advanced) was also one game I also adored. I just loved everything you could do in battle, the storyline was authentic, and the music also found a place in my soul ^^.

I'd have to say the Legend of Zelda series and more specifically, Ocarina of Time Then Sonic Adventure 2:Battle is a close second because that game is the game which ican play most of the songs from on my guitar,i.e: Live and Learn, Green Forest, Metal Harbor, and White Forest.

The first game I ever fell in love with was Donkey Kong Country 2. However, my favorite game right now is either Ocarina of Time or Harvest Moon FoMT. I liked Ocarina of Time because it was fun and challenging (Or, it was challenging when I first got it. ^^). And I like Harvest Moon because you can keep playing that game for years and you'll still have stuff to do on the game.

I loved SMB 2 and 3. Just because of the music and sounds in the game. And my favorite characters in SMB 3 was the Thwomp. They sound awesome when they try to smash you.

Yoshi's Island, hands down. I heard I played MarioKart 64 first, but Yoshi's Island was just so colorful and difficult when I was four. It has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, and I still play it a lot, although I've conveniently multiplied by gaming ability XD
I also love the Sonic Adventure series. Haha, I find those games easier to play through than when I was eleven or twelve, as well. But I didn't put them on my "favorite" list until I was almost done with the games, heh. I didn't really start liking the Super Mario World games until recently, just because I had reflexes slower than a tortoise. Now I'm better, too, hahaha.
