I really could've sworn I declared my hatred of Birdo before. I hate that thing so much. Its voice is disgusting and annoying. Each game that passes by, the voice and appearance becomes more skankier. More reasons are also on the 1st page of this thread (back when I posted in February).

...I like Birdo. Maybe because 'its' more of a cross-over of a Sniffit and a Yoshi, and I'm always one for mutated or hybrid characters. Needless to say, I think Birdo is wicked kewl. Not so much as Yoshi, but still a close contender. I love Birdo's voice! Its so...freakish. Much better than Yoshi, since he used to sound like a girl in Yoshi's Cookie anyways. I've had a sudden discern for Yoshi's voice after reading about him in SSB. I mean, first impressions in Yoshi's Island when he did his hip-drop sound effect was 'OMG! Cute! He said bu-ding, hop! ^O^' But then after that, he started saying pudding hup, or something of complete bizarre-ity that was in no way as cute as I first thought. Now I'm just annoyed that Nintendo never clarify his vocabulary. Pretty soon, he'll be a Pikachu clone. So, um...yeah. I like Birdo.

www.zanyvgquotes.com/supermariobros2/smb2birdo.jpgOkay, so either this is a different Birdo, or something... surgical... has happened. I didn't really like Birdo much in MK: DD with the voice... it sounded like a set of bagpipes being strangled. I expected the voices from Mario Tennis which sounded... er... female. *Shrugs* I don't really mind Birdo that much, but I prefer Yoshi.

..thats no mouth.
Birdo's voice annoys the hell out of me :\
Although, in super Mario Advance, Birdo actually had a real voice... how odd.

Yes well... Yoshi + Birdo = Two fictional characters.
**grabs highlight marker and colours in the latter part of the sentance**
Nintendo probably just shoved them together, because hey, Yoshi had no real companion (Mario and Luigi, Peach and Toad, etc) realised that they had Birdo sitting on the backshelf, thought... OMG **Spazms** We have a dinosaur character we can use, and thus, the duo as we see them were born.
Geh. Seriously.

I hate birdo so much. I call her Terdo! And on SSBM i always smash Terdo when she comes on the stage at Mushroom Kingdom 2. ;D I hope they aren't partnered anymore.

See, I think they're making Yoshi seem more and more childish with the extra limited vocabulary. They should make a game, that stars Yoshi of course, and give him a voice and make him talk. I think that would give Yoshi a really good image, not that it's a bad one now, but it'd be a major helper. As for Birdo, I've only seen him in two games. Super Mario RPG Legend of te Seven Stars and SSBM. In SSBM he was just plain annoying . But I liked him for a boss in SMRPG. Then, it was cute and I thought it was a neat twist, I LMAO one night when my dad was fighting Birdo in SMRPG and he used a Yoshi Cookie and after Yoshi tried attacking Birdo... which was unsuccessful, my dad asked me if they were brother and sister. Of course, I was ten and LMAO, but now I can see why he asked. Oh, and by the way, I love mutated things, they're a great plot twist. But to be honest, I never played Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, ect because I HATE sports games, cant stand those. So therefore, I never heard his voice.

...Oi... Again, clarification: The "Birdo is a guy who thinks he's a girl" thing was PURELY a product of American translators. It has no weight as a fact in the Mario universe. In Japan, Birdo is called "Catherine" and has always been a girl. Disregard it.

Well here, and probably in america too, Birdo, wasn't birdo.
The game itself had a slight error in it.
If you look in the credits, The names for birdo and ostro, are the wrong way round.
Birdo, as said in our book, is prefered to be know as 'Birdetta' and described as a boy that thinks he is a girl.
Wether that's a product of american translators is one theory, but it goes deeper into the rabbithole. search for Birdo in google and see what comes up. At the top you'll see a birdo fanlisting but further on, you see another page that celebrates the fact the Birdo is a [rather not say].
Not that i'm against them, I'm a very neutral person.
There are alot of unanswered questions surrounding Birdo's approach to the newer generation.
So many boards have talked about it. Even on the Neo-Yoshi Anoroium...

I'm really neutral on Birdo too. I do have to say that Birdo thinking he's a girl is really horrible, and really funny. Remember, when Birdo first showed up in the early games, yoshis were only all male, so I can see where the American translators were going with that one.....either way though, I would like to see yoshi with a yoshi. I don't think Nintendo will make a couple out of them for a loooooong time though, because they haven't made couples of anyone else on the games yet.

True about Nintendo always changing and evolving the same characters from game to game. Either gaining or losing abilities like nothing happened.
Heck, as of Super Mario Advance 2, Yoshi is officially a dragon after over 10 years of sticking to the (somewhat questionable) dinosaur translation. I'll be keeping an eye out to see if Nintendo revert back to the old Western version. Though because of this, now both Dinosaur and Dragon have been given official NOA and NOE blessing so both are now correct.

Old or not I can always say that... Yoahi and Birdo CANNOT be together.Well... A useless reason is that Yoshi never been in the Sub-Con world. Now usefull...Birdo always been an enemy. So did Birdo became good of Yoshi became bad?
But this cannot be decided. She mysteriously had a change of hearth. And not only once!
Super Mario Bros 2. Birdo has shown up has a boss to level 1 or 2 in each worlds. SMRPG: We didn't know if she was good or bad. We faught her... And she was still gentle with us. Mario and Luigi... She took the place of peach a the beginning... (Sorry everyone =/)
And now... She play Tennis Golf and race. And suddenly became the partner of Yoshi. I would say that... Only because the look a bit alike and they are "dinos"? Birdo is NOT a Yoshi. A Birdoshi is not a kid to have. Birdoshi... Ewww.... Anyways...
Gotta... Go... ZzZzZzZz

And like I said above, I don't think they'd do anything with them. Really, do you think they would? They haven't with any other characters yet (and who knows how long til they will)
Joshi, you are right, this is a really old thread, but I'm glad its back. There's still lots of opinion from people on this topic.
Simba your right, Birdo has been enemy, and then friend. Also, Yoshi has not turned, so don't worry about that. Birdo should have a side too. Also, Birdo was still in the MarioRPG for the snes, along with yoshi. Even though yoshi wasn't in subcon.

To be honest, I don't mind birdo. Birdo isn't really a bad character In my opinion
My laptop is the first machine i have ever had that i've not named after a mythical god. I was thinking medusa but... I decided to be different... Birdo
They wouldn't do that... Yoshi's had his own, sucessful games. Birdo hasn't (Yet!) but may well, as he/she's changed their evil ways...
Eventually, Birdo will have a large enough fanbase for someone to start a 'Birdo's Corner' Board somewhere. (Not before me though... Mine already exists, now it just needs advertising...)
Birdo will become just as important as Yoshi is now. and at that time, Yoshi will have fanbase quadruple the size it is now, and it's already huge...

I still think a game with the two of them in it would be final proof... and a good game, probably, if it was like Mario and Luigi in Paper Mario... where Birdo would stay in her house or town or whatever and just give hints to Yoshi, who was on a quest to do something or other.
They need some new voice overs for him, too, IMO...
