4 words. Tales of the Abyss. In my opinion, it is the greatest game ever made. I'm also close to beating it. The characters are vibrant and their personalities mesh together in just the perfect way, making it a really hilarious, fun, exciting, nerve-wracking, and challenging experience. The enemies also have high HPs as well, making even regular enemies fun to fight, which is sort of rare in an RPG. The graphics shame even what I've seen of the Wii in some parts, such as the waterfalls in Grand Chokmah. It also has puzzles galore and shocking revelations as well, and a few times that all you feel is despair at the mission that is ahead of you that would make the missions in Mission: Impossible seem easy by comparison. I've finally said all I'm going to say about this game

Shadow of the Colossus. I know, I know, people say it sucks and I have horrbile taste in games and I should go kill myself... but it's amazing~
I mean, you have to fight HUMUNGI monsters of rock with... a bow and arrow, a horse, and a sword. It is also realistic, not just graphic wise. There are no 'double jumps' which charcters jump on air. He even stumbles if you jump to far. And when you get hit, you don't just loose HP. He may faint, he may wobble a bit, he'll tumble. Even if a monster hits the horse, the horse looks like it hurt it's leg and you can't ride it for a while. There is no magic whatsoever. No 'super ultra mega abilities' that make the game easy. It's all stratigy. You need to think, 'How can I find the colossus' weak point?' and find your way there. The monsters don't just appear neither, you have to find them. Cross long plains of nothing but sand, cross swamps and marshes, forest and fortress, water and mountains. It makes it fun. Sure, it's hard, but that is what makes it best.
P.S. The music is amazing. 'Nuff said.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3 and Sonic and Knuckles for the Sega. Bloody fantastic games I still play.
Superfrog for the Amiga. Haven't played it for nigh on 10 years now, but it was the first game I ever played and it was awesome. Shame my 4th disk never worked.
Yoshi's Island, obviously.
Pretty much all the old Mario games, especially Super Mario World.
The F-Zero series I love.
Timesplitters: Future Perfect is brilliant amounts of fun with a nice bunch of comedy and a fantastic map maker.
Contra 3: The Alien Wars (but only 2 player, I suck one player)
I'll think of more when I'm not forgetful, but I'm a definite retro player, most of these games ('cept Timesplitters) I played when I was about 5 or 6 and I still enjoy them now. Simple but brilliant fun.

I just love Shadow of the Colossus! I've even beaten it!
I now have a new favorite game. Pokemon Pearl. I've already gotten the first two badges, and I'm in the city with the Contest Hall right now.

Twi, you forgot Sonic CD, which is by far my favorite of the classic Sonic games. If you haven't played it yet, I'd recommend that you do that. Brilliant colors, two great soundtracks, wacky level design, and the ability to do time travel all add up to being one of the greatest games of my youth.
Also, I seem to be one of the only people here that prefers SMB3 over SMW. The overworld maps on SMB3 have actual gameplay and make for great competitive play, whereas in SMW you just use them to choose a level. SMB3 also has far more creativity in its levels, as each level has its own crazy twist to it. I'm not much of a fan of SMW's graphics either. Lavender instead of blue? Gross.
Speaking of platformers, Psychonauts was a great game that too many people overlooked. It's got clever platforming action mixed with some great humor and voice acting talent. The best level would have to be The Milkman Conspiracy, by far. Just hanging around and watching the G-Men say nonsense in monotonous tones is pretty hilarious. Shame they disappear when you go back to revisit the level.
The Touhou series is also pretty cool. Picture a shooter with millions of bullets flooding the screen while you attempt to dodge them all without taking damage. That's pretty much what this is, except with anime girls thrown in as a bonus (Reisen is awesome).

I preferred SMW myself because of it's replayability and the fact it had an insane amount of secret levels, passageways and so forth. SMW3 I got infuriated too quickly with it, but with SMW I didn't, I'm not sure why, I just didn't. Also SMW's 2 player goes for a more co-op feel to it I think, I prefer that personally. Also yoshi, yoshi was cool. Currently I'm playing a SMW ROM hack called Second Reality or something, it's insanely hard.

Super Smash Brothers: Melee
We should all know this game by now. Reasons to love it is obvious. Even though, personaly, it's only fun in Multi-player. I'm not a fan of 1 player. I stoped playing one player when I got all the characters. But it's a great game if your having a party with friends.

Okami Absolutely beautiful game with an excellent storyline. Everything about it is unique, especially the whole brush concept. It's also a nice lengthy game. I got about 50 hours of gameplay without doing the sidequests. Also, the soundtrack is amazing. I'm looking to buy the imported CD.
Guitar Hero I & II Rofl, not much of a storyline in these games, but they're way too much fun to miss out on. You'll probably take a liking to a few songs, too. It's a very fun party game. I recommend the sequel for the Xbox 360, since it has more songs to choose from and songs you can download from Xbox Live.
Other totally awesome games that I'm too lazy to explain at the moment are Phoenix Wright, Super Mario World, Meteos, StarFox 64, and Yoshi's Island.

That's why you use the stored items, my friend.
To me, it seems more like a taking-turns game than an actual co-op game. It just doesn't feel like co-op at all. With SMB3 on the other hand, there are several ways to interact with the other player.
Yoshi in SMW was cool in my eyes... back then. Now that his character has changed so much over the years, I can't really go back to enjoying old Yoshi because I like the new one much better (Yoshi's Island was his big turning point for me).

Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 ^^. That was such a superb game. FF6 matches it as an awesome game too.
The Civilization series was addicting, although if you are a man that is a graphics-nazi, then its not your type of game.
SSBM, which you can never get bored of, EVER.
There are many more, but I just got back from an extremely long and cramped car ride, so my mind is off at the moment ^^.

That's why you use the stored items, my friend. The stored items were pretty useless, it was more "Woo, mushroom do I don't start small oh whoops I lost it straight away what a waste bugger! To me, it seems more like a taking-turns game than an actual co-op game. It just doesn't feel like co-op at all. With SMB3 on the other hand, there are several ways to interact with the other player. Well I dunno, if you're trying to complete the game with all the secrets, one guy goes find all the secrets the other goes through. With SMB3 I always found it much more of a 1 on 1 who can collect the most and take each others mushroom houses. Read for both of these: I sucked at SMB3 (evidence: Ask Strangie) Yoshi in SMW was cool in my eyes... back then. Now that his character has changed so much over the years, I can't really go back to enjoying old Yoshi because I like the new one much better (Yoshi's Island was his big turning point for me). Still cool though

Now for an update on my favorite game. I just got my 3rd gym badge thanks to my Gyarados. I also have a Blissey as well. I love Blisseys. I'll keep every one informed when I win the next badge. Final Fantasy Tactics is awesome. I got rid of all the special characters on my game, and now have 8 humans and 8 monsters. All but 3 humans have mastered every job. Every character is at Level 99 with 99 experience. The monsters I have are: Red Chocobo, Red Dragon, Great Morbol, Mind Flare, Cocatorias, Tiamat, and two others I can't think of.

Dark Savior - Sega Saturn While not my first RPG, it was definitely my first RPG run on the Saturn. A great system, however it just didn't do so well in the states. That saddens me because we may have seen more gems like Dark Savior. It wasn't the most original, and wasn't the deepest, but I'll be darned if it wasn't one of the most fun experiences I've had. With five different storylines, each with their own unique ending tied to the same story, it definitely had replay value. It was also fun battling as the characters you've captured throughout the story, and trying to capture every enemy available per run. If you've got this gem and haven't played it yet I suggest you do -- you've got a wonderful, obscure RPG on your hands there.
Suikoden - Playstation Again, this RPG wasn't the most original, but it was deep. If not for the fun of collecting all 108 Stars of Destiny so the best ending could be achieved, the story itself kept the gamer wanting more, even if the main idea has been done so many times in the past. It's simply a case of taking something and making it better in my opinion. It also helps that every one of the 108 stars has a backstory and reason for joining you.
Shadow Hearts - Playstation 2 Dark, original story mixed with a unique Judgment Ring battle system, with a bit of humour added in. Not to mention an incredibly memorable cast of characters that somehow get brought together to save the world from an ultimate evil no-one would expect. The first Shadow Hearts will always be superior to me, over the two sequels, simply for the dedicated dark plot that doesn't falter due to humour, however it can become too dark at times for my tastes, I'd gladly play through it again.

Update on Pokemon Pearl: I'm now the Pokemon Champion, and have been for a while.
Shadow Hearts: I agree this is a great game, although I had no problem against the final boss.

Paper Mario: Well what can I say? Well, the battle system is great, the story is great, the characters are great, and...so yeah. I actually find this one of the best games of all time! Its sequel and SPM are great too!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: I consider this pretty much the best Zelda ever. I just kinda found it the most fun, and much easier to get into. But most of the other Zeldas are good too.
