SimCity 2000:
Ah, what a classic this gem truly is -- came upon it again recently when I was reminded of it by an event a few weeks ago, and again my insatiable addiction to it has re-emerged.
(As some people I've been talking to recently know, heh.) I just can't stop playing this game, something about it just keeps me drawn in infdefinitely. :3
The whole point of this thread was that since I went to the effort to find it, perhaps other people may care to have it as well, possibly to rekindle old memories, or to play one of the most highly-ranked games ever designed I have the full install .exe file right here.
Now, to my knowledge, being as old as it is, SimCity 2000 is abandonware, or free -- in any case, I'm sure no one really gives. I mean, I found the .exe easy enough... if it wasn't free at this point, then I wouldn't thnk it would be that easy to attain... but if anyone has a real hernia over it, I guess this thread can be removed. Just wanted to share a valuable find of mine, is all. :3
Live a deprived life and never heard of it?
SimCity 2000 is just as it sounds -- a Simulator in which one can design and manage their own city from scratch. I suppose the premise doesn't sound that interesting on it's own, but once you get into the intricacies of the game, it becomes ever-so involving and interesting.
Everything you do in the game will affect a different outcome -- zoning certain types of zones nearby each other may impact how they develop, applying certain city ordinances may change the way the city functions, increasing/decreasing taxes to different sectors of the city can make you gain or lose in capital -- It's all so very intriguing.
The way you tax the different sectors of the city can afect a variety of things. You can tax separate industries as well.
Place Police departments to wipe out crime, fire departments to help prevent fires, hospitals to keep the livelyhood of your citizens up, schools to reduce crime and increase industrial profit in the electronics sections, as well as many other things... you have to appeal to the needs of the people to succeed.
You have to watch out for hazards, and realistic aspects -- don't put residential districts near a prison or power plant, place in public transit to control pollution, and make important decisions like to use a more costly but more pollutant-efficient power plant over a cheaper (but more) pollutive one.
Unlike most games, it's unique in a special way -- instead of a game based on destruction, it's based upon construction -- and it's however you see fit. There's no real goal to the game, moreover ones you make yourself. Beat your neighbors? Have a crime-free city? Fill the map? Get the best population you can? The highest populatiry rating amongst your citizens? Or try and do them all in the shortest time possible?
Conveninently for you, you're always in office and you live forever, so the city goes on for as long as you'd like to play it.
*******************************
Well, in any case -- maybe I'm the only one who finds watching cities develop, creating a place with almost a life of it's own, taxing and obtaining profits, and testing my leadership skills out abhorrently entertaining -- but I do. ^^ And I give anyone the opportunity to do the same if they'd like.
If you'd like me to send you the .exe installer, please PM me -- I'm foolish and don't have it uploaded anywhere, so I'll have to e-mail it or send it over an Instant Messenger or something.
I'm done talking now. ^^
