The silence that surrounded him was deafening, making his ears throb with slight pain. It had a thickness too, like a fog that rolls in before rain. The child turned his lilac-haired head and searched in vain with matching lilac eyes into the dark surroundings that could have been as expansive as on would think infinity to be, or as small and claustrophobic as a closet or crate. Groping into the nothingness told the young boy that the former seemed to be the case.
This lack of sensory perception was just beginning to tax the poor boy's sanity when a sudden, booming voice assaulted his ears, shattering the silence, and reducing him to a cowering ball with his hands cupped around his head.
"What do you choose?" the deep voice thundered, coming from nowhere and everywhere at the same time. The child looked up in confusion and was opening his mouth to speak when a brilliant flash of white light blinded him. It revealed a luminescent pearl-colored door that had Romanesque columns on each side and an arch over the top. The door itself was endowed with reliefs of angels dancing in radiant sunlight. Awe twinkled on the boy's face and he took a step closer only to jump and stumble backwards as another door appeared. This one seemed to tear and grow out of the darkness beneath him. Black steel bars twisted and intertwined as the wrapped themselves around the edges of the door itself. It glowed with a dark purple-red aura and as the boy watched bright orange runes seared there way from the backside of the door. Puzzled, the boy stood, staring at what had just appeared in the darkness.
"Choose," the voice commanded.
"But what---"
"CHOOSE!!" Again, the boy cowered. Suddenly, the voice spoke beside him and the voice turned only to be greeted by the same darkness as before. Again the voice spoke, this time from behind, so the boy spun around. Nothing. Faster and faster the voice spoke, nagging and taunting at all angles causing the boy to spin erratically in search of its source. Finally, the young child stopped spinning, eyes now closed, ears covered again, and screamed.
"Fine!" The voices stopped. "I'll choose!" Tears now streaming down his face he pointed, eyes still closed.
"So it is done, " the voice rumbled. In a n instant the lilac-haired child vanished. The dark door slammed shut, runes now performing a serpentine dance across it, and sank back into the darkness taking the now damned child with it.
