Pokémon, hands-down! Not to offend DigiFans, but I might base Digimon on the show: same repetitive plot, no matter what the world. That's all I know about it.

I like Pokémon for its games...maybe a few of the monster species...but thats about it. I always preferred Digimon purely because they were beastly monsters that did rip open gullets and whatnot when they battled. In other words, they fought like 'real' monsters. At least, thats what I felt when I saw the movies...

Digimon did come out before Pokémon. They first hit the market when Tamagotchis were still big. Box Front & Box Inside - ConnectivityThey were cute little contraptions, but only really fun if you had someone to conect to. Of course, I think the winner was based entirely on random and that manic button mashing didn't really do much. But yeah...for their time, they were just obligatory cute Tamagotchi-clones. I still have my silver egg Tamagotchi and that red Digimon one somewhere... ~~~ There are hundreds of monster collecting themed games/products/toilet rolls/whatever out and around Japan. I'm guessing Pokémon just got lucky with its exposure.

I haven't had muchto do with Digimon, so I can't say I have that great an opinion for this arguement -- at least one that's very fair. I do like quite a few of 'em, though. :3

Chinpokomon was featured in an episode of South Park. It was a parody of the Pokémon craze. You can read about it here.

I have no idea; I lost interest after Yu-Gi-Oh came out and Brock left the group. I never really liked Digimon. >_< I have caught the odd episode of all of the above every once in a while (mostly when I babysit), and it looks... odd... but I think it would probably end in a tie. Whenever the Digimon start losing, don't they evolve or something?

Sorry to correct you, but that's not true.
Pokémon was launched (Japan) in February of 1996. Digital Monster, as you've pictured, wasn't released in Japan until Summer 1997, a full year and a half after Pokémon was very well established.
Ofcourse, since Pokémon was never released outside of Japan until late 1998, and Digimon probably did (Tamagotchi craze) its easy to think Digimon game first, but it didn't.
That's why the original Pokemon was only a normal GB game, even though the GB Color had already been out for more than 2 years. Pokémon was already 2 years old before its US release. And it took another year ontop of that before the European release (Xmas 1999). Its also why a number of people think it started off as a cartoon as the dubbed anime started appearing on TV before the game.
As for the topic question, Digimon was a waaaay more interesting anime, though I've never played any of the games. I do enjoy the Pokemon games a quite a lot though most of the monsters are pretty poor now imo.

Hahah, I think you'll find you are incorrect. The Digimon tamagotchi was out long before Pokémon, because it was released under a lot of different namesakes before they finally settled on Digital Monster/Digimon. When they released it with its official packaging in 1997, it was the last name change they had with the product. Write a novel about it if you wish, but Digimon was created before Pokémon. ~~~ I remember being addicted to the Digimon TV series...like, taping-every-episode-I-could-rabid-fanchild phase, hahah. The first season was awesome - there were some parts I actually found quite saddening for a cartoon. Thats sad in itself, but hey...if a cartoon can touch someone like that, they must be doing something good. ...although being a rabid-fanchild may have softened my emotions to that particular series, hahah. ~~~ Oh yeaaah, Brock was actually in my opinion, probably one of the only decent characters in that anime. Although Team Rocket were the ultimate cool cartoon characters. Even for the dubbed version. (the guy who played James' voice for the longest while...I can't think of his name, but he was the best actor on that show hands down)

What where the other names then? I don't need to write a novel, I can just give links to back up what I said. The way I see it, if it wasn't called Digimon/Digital Monsters then it was not the same game/franchise. It was a different product, just from the same company.

'Digimon was originally called by several other names including: Digital Demon, Digi Demon, Digital Monster, and Tama-Hawk. Among the first interactive pets, Digimon is a linkable fighting pet by Bandai. Like many pets, Digimon was initially made for sale in Japan and was later revised and packaged for sale in the U.S.' I know, I see you did extensive research. Wiki is a wonderful thing, no? And the way I see it, Digimon came before Pokémon. Chillax, heheh.

Who's not chilled miss quip I'll concede the point if it was exactly the same thing repackaged/renamed several times. Though if the game itself was different, then that's more of a grey area imo. But its not like I can't say I''m wrong.

The guy who played James? Isn't that the guy who did Seto Kaiba's voice in Yu-Gi-Oh?
And as for Yoshee's question, I think they Digivolve when near-dead just for dramatic effect.
