Well? I think he was remains of the personalities of the pokemon that took form of the only forms of pokemon not being used or just itself. The ghost can't be used, neither of the fossils can either but it doesn't mean that they are not pokemon. How about you?

other. missingo = missing number. this pokemon is not numbered, and if you level it, it evolves into a kangaskong. my sister always thought it was the baby kangaskong = P.

Well, I caught MissingNo. on a red version I found when I moved into my house. When I caught it, it was a Kabutops skeleton. It was cool, but my kept freezing. Maybe they were about to put baby kangashkan in the game, but erased it. That's why the number is not labled.

it is kind of a glitch since you have to go through a process to get it, theres also one of these that allows you to catch pokemon from the safari zone X D.

I think MissingNo is just a leftover from the development of the game, like something used in debugging or for testing something. Test maps and unused sprites appear in many games, I think MissingNo is one of those cases where leftover data wasn't removed from the programming before the games release.

Catchinga Missingno will slow your game, and I DON'T think that's planned. I think it's not a glitch, since it could have been accidentaly left... so I think it's just... THERE!

OK, true story: It's some beta-version Pokémon that was leftover in the game as No. 000.

Not a glitch, probly a hidden cookie that is Sappose to be there. And if it wasn't set there, then it's a left over from testing like boomeister said.

Agreed with Lava, this is my theory..
The game makers, when creating the game, had to have something to test the general battle system and random-encounter system. Thusly, they created MissingNo and the pokemon known as "iuegiodfsgiufdgo" to test these things on. They never really had stats, and were never meant to be caught. When they completed the game, they either A) Forgot these bug data existed, and left them there, where they altered the level curve of the Pokemon in the general area, and totally cause your game to fatal error and crash eventually, or B) Left them in as tricks to play on cheaters and/or as an easter egg..
As Boo said, i believe they were originally debug pokemon.

It's probably something that was used in the game to name pokemon, and since we are such good hackers XD we've come across this glitch, seems that Nintendo underestimated us....

I read in an old Pokemon magazine that MissingNo. was a glitch that was in the first 2 million copies of Pokemon Red and Blue versions.Soon after,it was discovered, and the following copies of Red and Blue Versions were decontaminated (for lack of a better term.)
Only the very first copies of the games have MissingNo. in them.

It's stats, types, and skill learnability reminds me highly of Lugia, so I just think of it as a malformed Lugia.
