A friend of mine put a 'mystery box' up on ebay. I almost put a bid on it just for a laugh. He also put a mystery CD on there saying "I won't see what is on it, thats for the lucky winner to do". I might put some fakes up on one of the free days...

Geez, it's amazing how people overexaggerate these small, hardware articles for things they are not. I guess these people have psychological malfunctions.

People bid on them just for fun. Sometimes they'll register another account and do it to see if it'd attract attention. Thats the reason these particular auctions are (in the majority) put up during eBay's free day's. No eBay fee's to pay should someone actually win one of these things, although I think there's a threshold. They might charge should the item go up enough. Ebay charge a percentage for each auction, and it'd be poor business should they fail to charge someone for something exceeding 10,000 pound. I can't quite remember what the percentage is however, but it'd be rather high, and that mounts up as items get more and more expensive, and you'll see how much of a dent it makes in the ending successful bid amount.

I think the only thing you're not allowed to sell is used underwear.
