Another YC Tournament?

So I was thinking its been a while since our last tourney, and my bragging rights for the last Bomberman one are soon to expire. Also they're really fun.

So what I was going to suggest here is that we have another one, but I don't know what game we should be playing exactly. To the best of my memory we've already played Mario Kart, Tetris Attack, Bomberman and Street Fighter so really we'd be looking at something new, and maybe something that not many people have played because honestly wheres the fun in picking something you're excellent at. (Note: I didn't pick Bomberman.) Of course that might not be possible, but I'm sure theres a load of multiplayer games that would be perfect for tourneying up.

Ideally we'd be sticking to SNES (ROMS most likely) or DS, probably SNES because if you know where to look and who to ask it'll be easy to get sorted. Of course, no discussion of where to find ROMS is allowed on these boards so you'll have to look for the requisite gear yourself. Or even if theres any decent multiplayer games on NES (and an emulator with netplay) we could make a go of that.

In my infinite wisdom I forgot to bring any game ideas so I'll be relying on you people to come up with the goods. Also, post here only if you're interested in playing and will be able to play all your matches without vanishing from the internet. I know there were problems in the last tournaments with people not even turning up, and that just made it bad for everyone. Theres no fun in organising a tournament where half the competitors don't show up, as I'm sure Strangie will tell you about.

So. Ideas?

Also, why don't we pitch this on say, TYFN or YL as well? Hold several tournaments, then the winners of the tournaments duke it out in the style of Regional/World cups and such.

I'm currently discussing this with Yoshi Lore, and it seems they would vote for something on the DS as they have issues using emulation. Personally, I have no problem with either, just as long as it's not Pokemon.

Pokemon doesn't exactly strike me as a quick and fun tourney game, really. That and its not even out in the UK yet and theres no way I'm grinding millionfs of hours into it...

Besides anything more powerful that a calculator will run a SNES emulator.

Personally, I'd prefer the Yoshi's Cookie idea. I mean, I haven't exactly played it myself in about a decade, but I guess since many will feel the same, it'll certainly stir things up a bit.
I think we've already had Tetris Attack, Mario Kart DS, and Bomberman tournaments, so this'll be something new. And besides, I blow chunks at Tetris Attack.

^^ DS games are a bad idea, not everyone has a DS with working Wi-Fi, and not too many even have Command.

Hooray! Someone besides me finally decided to make a tourney.

It's good to see someone following up on what I tried to do oh so long ago. Makes me proud.

Anyways, any game is fine. DS games might be a bit more reliable since they're less likely to glitch out and stuff for various reasons, but they're less accessable than ZSNES and whatnot.

Now we just have to make sure everybody plays this time around. I know where you sleep at night. Not really. >_>

EDIT: I would also be willing to help out in any way with this, even though there might not be a whole lot to it. Gimme a buzz sometime if you need anything.

Might as well revive interest in this. I would personally suggest ZSNES(My router hates me for DS =___=)

Also, someone should post a topic on YLF to spread the ideas(You wouldn't get that much response on IRC knowing that #yc is normaly more active than #ylore)

I would prefer a DS game, I cant ever get ZSNES to work =(. It's also possible to have a Pokemon tournament on Shoddy battle or something (Its like a d/p netbattle, you use the team builer to make a team, then theres a chatroom where you can challenge people), so you wouldn't have to spend so much time preparing.

I wouldn't mind being part of the tournament; I'm going to be on my summer vacation as of the end of this week until the end of February/beginning of March. However, I think I would be more interested if I knew what game was going to be played.

On the subject of tourneys, the whole thing seems to have been put on the back burner for the time being. Once christmas is finished I'll try and kickstart some activity into this, and maybe we'll actually get a game dicided. If I remeber correctly, Yoshi's Cookie was going to be suggested but for all I know that could have been a dream.
