Trantor. The most populated world in the galaxy, a planet overcome completely by metal and machinery, the only place where green could be seen was the mile around the Imperial Palace. It was the center of the Galactic Empire which was reaching it's height...
-Encyclopedia Galactica
Gaal sat on the shuttle looking out the bay windows, when an officer stepped into the lounge and announced, " The bay windows will be closing, please return to your seats."
He asked the officer, " I would like to see Trantor from space, it's a site I've bean eager to see."
The officer shook his head, "Sorry, we'll be hitting sun side, so unless you want to feel what it's like to have your retinals blasted by sun flares, i suggest you return to your seat. You can buy a tour ticket in the shuttleport though."
Rather disappointed Gaal returned to his seat. An hour later the shuttle landed in the port and he climbed down the ramp to the ground.
The shuttleport was full of people. He weaved his way threw the threads of unknown faces to the intra planetary shuttle service.
"Wheres the nearest hotel, something nice but not expensive."
The shuttle service corporation employee replied, " Well the Galactic star Hotel is the place for you. 15 Credits please."
Gaal passed the man a couple bills and the employee handed him back a ticket.
"I was also wondering if theres an orbit tours available."
"Sorry, not for 3 days. But don't worry, your not missing much." the man replied "But you can visit the Sky Tower, gives a good view of below.".
dismally, he followed the signs posted towards the intra-planetary shuttleway and handed the driver his ticket.
20 minutes later he checked in, dropped of his baggage and took another intra-planetary shuttle to the "Sky Tower".
Just as he was getting of the shuttle he saw the first patch of sky. It was nothing like home, it was grey and almost metal like.
He entered the elevator that shoot up threw the tower. Another man stood in it.
The man asked, "Gaal Dedrick?"
Stunned Gaal said, "Yes, how do you know?"
The man replied, " I'm an officer in the Imperial Navy, I hear your hear to work for a Hari Seldon...?"
"Yes, but I'm a mathematician and know nothing about why a officer of the navy would want to do with me."
"Well, Seldon claims that the Empire will fall and is being charged...well blamed of Treason. He hasn't gone to trial yet but where trying to figure out if he's trying to get riots going, or just mad."
" I am sorry, but i have no idea what you are talking about."
"Well i need to take you to the lesser palace, even if you are innocent."
The man motioned to escort Gaal but he already began his way back to the shuttle, he didn't want to have to walk around like a prisoner.
Gaal stood before the Senator. Well sat actually. But it made him feel like he was standing. The senator was very short.
" You and Seldon will be questioned and held here until further notice."
Next to Gaal stood a man in a wheel chair, Hari Seldon.
Gaal retorted, " You have no right to keep me here! I demand a conference with the Emperor!"
"I'm sorry," the senator replied, " But conferences are hard to come by with the Emporer. Your stuck here for now, your questioning will be held here tomorrow."
He and Hari Seldon were escorted to a room.
"Well , i better explain everything now," Hari Seldon began.
He took out a hologram and placed it on the floor.
"Oh by the way take this,"
He handed Gaal a wristband.
"What is it?"
"It's a interference broadcaster, any listening devices in this room won't here a thing we say."
Suddenly, Seldon began inputting variables and calculations into the device. Gaal watched him and the equations that floated into the holographic picture.
After endless equations and variables a picture appeared on the Holographic terminal.
"This is the Empire after 2 centuries."
Gaal was speechless, but he understood. He croaked, "is there any way to stop this from happening?"
"Yes, I plan to establish a colony of Scientists that will preserve the knowledge of science and will shorten the 10 millenniums of barbarism to a short single millennium. It is to late to be stopped, but the blow can be softened. My calculations are accurate, 97%.'
Just then the Senator entered the Room.
"Your Scientists will be sent to Terimous, a small world far away. There the Empire will supply you with needed supplies. You are dismissed."
"Did you plan on that?" Gaal asked.
"Of course, i studied the senator and predicted his actions
rather accurately. Oh yes, There is a 2.47% chance I will be executed"
