I've not had a virus in years, and the last one I had was the EICAR test string. Harmless. Only because it was designed to test how anti-virus packages reacted when a virus was found.
The one before that gave the impression it wiped my hard drive, but it replaced the start bit of the hard drive with a 0 and made it look as though it had been wiped. That was nasty. That was back in 1999, when I was using IBM Anti-Virus for DOS.

For Mechakoopa:
You'll probably got some problems with your computer. Perhaps spywares is the cause of program to crash. You might be infected by spyware.
For Midnight:
It's because I've gotten the windows update to protect my computer, and other utilities I downloaded. Common sense to it. Well, but there is something that happened to me. Not a virus, but caught spywares twice last year. Somebody was putting pron on my pc, and it does not look really nice at all. Lagged my pc entirely and I had to reboot my comp all over from the begining, with my restore cds. I got back the stuff that I lost. Midnight, hug me!

2. I can't open visual basic 6.0You use VB6? Wow. I thought I was the lone VB Programmer. However, to destroy your problems, Goto www.lavasoft.de and download and install AdAware 6 SE, and perform a full scan. After using that, and deleting what it detects, goto www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx and download Microsoft AntiSpyware, and perform a full scan with that. The reason I suggested you use both is because one program might detect a malicious string when another won't. Just a small point though. Never, ever, ever install Kazaa. Kazaa includes quite a lot of spyware/adware and upon installing kazaa, you install all these too, and included in that, is something called 'GAIN'. This isn't easy to uninstall, and doesn't uninstall when you uninstall Kazaa. Despite what it says in the install program, you cannot uninstall any spyware/adware by simply uninstalling Kazaa. Microsoft Antispyware will detect kazaa and all of it's components as a high risk threat. It also detects GAIN, but even after removing it, some little things still remain. I had to repair a friends computer after he had kazaa on it, and Trend Micro Housecall clocked 82 viruses. Nyes. 'twas a pain. By following my advice, your pc will be back to normal. Well, as for the viruses, www.trendmicro.com, click Personal, Click Housecall, click start housecall at the bottom once it's detected wether you have the components to run it. Once Housecall starts, and it's updated it's pattern files, tick the drives you want to scan (C: Local Drive) and click 'Start Scan'. Wait. Patiently. Once it's done, it'll give you the chance to remove the viruses. Do so. Fixed. If housecall doesn't start however, or IE/FireFox crashes as you're clicking on 'Start housecall', the virus is protecting itself, and the best way of doing it then is to take it to have it repaired. I could tell you about going into safemode and doing it, but thats not wise if you're unsure of what you're doing. The reason why normal PC users shouldn't use the 'Administrator' account for their normal day-to-day activities. Edit: Ended a quote incorrectly. My bad...

I think s/he meant to say that s/he cannot open programs written in VB6. The VB runtime libraries may be missing or corrupt. Your computer is infested with spyware. Use this. Usually when a computer is seriously infested with spyware, it is a far better choice to reformat everything and re-install windows all over again. And then taking preventive measures. But if you don't have that option then using anti-virus/anti-spyware programs will certainly help somewhat. And btw I've never allowed any spyware into any of my PC's either ;D And also because some spyware programs will fight back against specific anti-spyware software. Indeed, the world would be very different if people followed that.
