Her eyes were wide as she looked around the area, and a confused look was present upon her face. Random creatures passed by-- Yoshies, Darklies, Koopas, other Toads-- but with each one that passed, a new confused stare was thrown at her.
"What is that? That can't be a toad..."
"Maybe it's a dark toad..."
Maru glanced around shiftily as she produced her wrench, whispering to it, "I don't think we're in Petalburg anymore..."

I was walking around aimlessly. Ahead, I saw many creatures give a shocked glance at something, then quickly walk away whispering to each other. Me, being me, went to check it out too.

I started walking around, when I saw several things staring at something else. However, I had absolutely no sense in urgency. I looked like a computer program computing its code randomly.

(Geez...is this in the third person or the first? And hey, if you're going to make a post in a RP, why don't you actually say something noteworthy? If everyone just says "I walked around", then this is going to die out, real fast. Allow me to demonstrate...)
Beyond the clamor and further down the streets, Frankie shook hands with their new recruit. True, this guy wasn't even a Pianta, but he was perfect for the job: a little street sense, and a heart of stone.
"I really appreciate dis, Mr. Terrel," Frankie told the human.
The gaunt teen shrugged. "What choice do I have?" he said grimly. "I'm stuck here until the underground's open again. Better pick a side before I get jumped."
"Yeah, you're one wise kid," complimented the crime boss. "We ain't so sure how dat underground got shut down, tho'. But there's dis disturbance taking place on Main Street; why don't you check dat out for your first consignment?"
"Whatever. As long as I don't wear a suit."
Frankie glanced at Terrel's rags of clothing. Hmm...torn, black t-shirt, tattered jeans..."That's perfect. Like dat, no one'll know you're wit us. Who knows, maybe dis is what's holding you up."
Terrel nodded and left the HQ. Frankie stared after the kid's long, dirty blonde hair. Dat Terrel sure is weird, he thought passively.
