Here starts a new adventure...
~~~
Once again, I woke up to admire my surroundings. Every morning was the same thing, I woke up in a different place, and I would always fall off some tree or hit my head on something... or worse. I looked around me, I was in a house... on a bed, no obstacle in sight. Right... I took up that job as detective. I got up and looked around my new found appartment, yet to get used to it.
At breakfast, I read the newspaper, the local museum had been robbed. It had attracted much tourism these past few days, and it would do no good if it lost it all during a robbery. I bet they'll be calling me any minute I said to myself picking up a croissant smothered in Jelly. Without fail, the phone rang and made me drop my sweet breakfast on my belly. Murphy's law... if it can go wrong, it will go wrong. I quickly used a napkin to wipe up most of the jelly and picked up the phone as the answering machine was going to kick in. "Hello? Theodore here," I said into the receiver. I got a reply... "Yes, I'm sure you've gotten wind of the robbery by now Teo?" It was the head of the police department in this area. "Yes yes, and you want me to investigate, find who dun it, arrest him, give'm to you, right?" "Yes, brilliant deduction, we need you in two hours." I knew it wasn't a 'brilliant' deduction, anyone could've guessed. What was the use of two hours though? I made my way to the museum, a good ten minutes walk... but first, wipping the jelly off. There would be more than jelly in this case...
I jumped from the decks of my ship and onto the sand below. It had indeed been a while since my last visit to Yoshi's Island. It seemed like forever that I had been sailing alone on my only partner, my caravel, the Majestuosa. Her sails and flag with the Yoshi Egg wave bravely and proudly against the wind. She rocked back and forth to the calm ocean waves, giving rocking noises as she did. After anchoring my ship, I looked back to the island itself. Yes, word of the robbery had spread even over the ocean. Though I assumed it was none of my business, curiosity told me I should get a better idea about what this was all about. Taking my spell book and zipping it away securely in my backpack, I took one last look at my caravel, before leaving it docked at the shores and proceeding onto the island.
Approaching the city from the quiet outskirts is a light blue Yoshi named Enrique Rzlowieszczyk. He is carrying a large four inch white binder with him; this contains a CD of his presentation on his climatology research that he will present in a science convention soon. He was excited about this; he could recieve a scholarship at a college that he has always wanted to attend.
On his way to the building where the convention will be held, he noticed that several police vehicles were hovering around the entrance of one of museums of the city. He stopped at the very limit in which he could approach the museum and looked around the scene a bit. It seemed as if everything was normal; however, there were many police officers outside questioning what seemed to be the manager of the museum; several others carrying out objects as if they were evidence to a crime scene.
Enrique tried to ask one of the investigators about the scene that was taking place. However, the police officers and investigators seemed to ignore him, as if he was invisible. Finally, one of the investigators who was carrying out a tile with a footprint responded to Enrique; there had apparently been a robbery that occurred. Enrique was shocked; he knew that the security system on this particular museum was first class, and they had no idea who the criminal was. Enrique was naturally in a curiosity to help with this particular crime case. He found himself suddenly in a conundrum... Shall he help solve the case? Or go to the convention as he originally anticipated?
I arrived at the museum at 9:10, but I had only been expected to arrive near 10 o'clock. Why wait, the person who did the crime would just have more time... and time certainly was a precious thing. I wore only a blue jacket, mainly because I needed the pockets and some way to point me out in a crowd. I neared the line of police men, showed them my badge and proceeded towards the museum doors.
The museum doors were only made of glass, something I would never have done to guard anything precious. I approached them and the electric eye opened them for me, the smell of ancient artifacts overwhelming, despite the measures taken. On this floor was all the manuscripts and books and fossils. Upstairs were the paintings, and farther up on the third floor were gems and treasures. The fourth and top floor was made of statues from several artists. I proceeded up to the third floor where many inspectors, many yoshi, many human, and many koopa, had been called. I proceeded to the only empty casing where one of my fellow inspectors cought me.
"You're here early, we weren't expecting you until ten," the koopa said questioningly. "Why wait?" I told him. "So tell me, what exactly was stolen, and what made it so appealing? What's it's history? What year was it made?" The koopa thought of my questions and prepared answers, "Well, it's a very old crown, but where you would expect a gem, there is a black stone, and a ring of black stone near the base of the crown too. It was discovered that it was actually made of the black stone and painted with molten gold. The black stone is thought to be Jet, but it was never really tested. It dates back towards early egyptian times, according to carbon dating. It was owned by a queen who was said to rule a thousand years." "I doubt anyone lasted long enough to testify that," I said in response. "Anyways, I'll see what I can do," and with that, we quietly circled the casing set upon the pillar...
I quietly sniffed the air around the artifacts resting place, and thousands of scents, some of perfume, some of sweat, and some strange filled me... and I promtly sneezed. "Bless you," the koopa said. "Thanks," I said back to him, starting to sniff lower to the ground, but my nose would not help. The koopa was taking the right approach, inspecting the case itself. I was more puzzled to how the criminal made it in... or if the treasure had even left yet. The area was un-damaged, the security guards found no one when the treasure was stolen, the case was the only thing wrecked with a big hole in the glass. I thought about it again and again, and a possible answer came to me. Hmmm... what if the crown did not leave yet... and it's merely hidden. These security systems are top notch... you can't even teleport in here. No magic can be used in here either... depending the magic.[/] my index finger suddenly turned into a claw, and back into a finger. Transforming works fine. I turned to the koopa again.
Another thought occured, "Hey koopa..." "Call me Alex if you please," "Alex... do these display cases get shipped anywhere for inspection?" "No, why?" Another theory dismissed. "No reason... but who's the security guard?" Alex answered me again... I felt guilty not to be up to date with these things, "No one. There's a mechanical eye that watches everything, and whenever something moves, the alarm rings. The actual security guards are in another room with the cameras, constantly keeping an eye out... but if you ask me, they're probably partying. There's traps in this place for goodness sake. You break something, you get zapped." "Dear Alex, I have a theory again... but this time, we'll be on night watch. Go get some rest during the day, get ready to stay up all night."
The museum was full of police, guards, and detectives; not too unusual as things had been stolen before. Boo silently headed toward the scene of the crime, invisible of course; he wanted to see what the fuss was all about. He listened in on a conversation between a yoshi detective and a koopa, they stood near a smashed glass case. Boo glanced over at the pedestal that the remains of the case were on, an information card filled him in on what was stolen. "A crown? how pathetic." he said, quietly enough so he thought nobody would hear. His attention then shifted back to the conversation: we'll be on night watch the yoshi said. Boo grinned, "I'll have to be there for that."
I arrived at the place the museum as the police cars where surrounding the area. "Great." I thought. "More confrontation." Proceeding into the building, I gave a sigh. It seemed like some investigators where already on the scene. I didn't want any part in this investigation, It seemed much too confrontational for him to bear. Instead, he stood near the others, but at a distance. Staying quite and keeping his distance, he observed... and waited...
(eek, I know it's short)
Eavesdropping on the conversations of the other curious people like him, Enrique learned that the police scene hovering the museum was in fact the start of an investigation of a robbery. The item that was stolen was a crown believed to be worn by a queen said to rule for a thousand years; the crown itself was valuable for its molten gold circumfering the base of it.
However, Enrique was still unsure of his situation of the science convention; he eventually looked at the program that the officials who were running it had mailed him three days prior; he would not present for another two days. As a result, he decided to go to the building where the convention would take place and leave his research in one of the security areas, for a small price of cash.
Enrique returned to the museum where the robbery had occurred and observed the movements of the police officers and investigators. Investigators had continued to shuffle in and out of the building, carrying floor tiles, case protectors, and more evidence that seemed to have footprints or fingerprints of the felon. Enrique would have asked some questions concerning the case; however, every officer on the scene was already occupied; thus, Enrique stood the closest that he could get to the center of the crime scene and observed the investigators bringing out more and more from the museum.
I woke up bright and... late. My Chao (=P) was jumping on my pillow, waving a peice of paper in his claw. <Get up, Yoshee! We need to be there by ten!> He practically shouted. I knew it would do no good to hold my ears... "Quiet down a little. We're in the same room, you know." I told him, and grabbed the parchment from him. "Thanks. Mystery at the museum, yadda yadda... crown stolen... Ten 'o clock!?" I glanced over at my alarm clock. It said 9:00. "Oh, we have an hour." I leaped out of bed and grabbed some fruit in my kitchen. "Let's be there early, anyways. Nothing wrong with that!" I told my companion. <Well, maybe we're not the only detectives, and they wanted to keep track of everyone.> He replied. "Who cares? Detectives prefer being early. Time is of the essense!" With those words, I banged my knee on a chair. "OWIE! Stupid chair..." I hurriedly limped out the door. "That's going to leave a mark, not to mention a huge bruise..." I growled. I would have to hurry now; it's a lot faster to run than to limp.
OOC: Whoops, I've been slacking.
~2:00 PM, monday~
I had been waiting around, with nothing to do. I had taken a walk to help me think, but the mystery kept me puzzled. Was my theory right? Would the robber strike again? Or did he just come once for the crown? The mystery was still... mysterious. That's a horrible word for it, I thought, my mind wandering on other things. It was getting cold, and I decided to research more on the security system of this museum, if not its history, and the history of the crown. While we're at it, might as well try and discover how a pressure pad worked.
I made my way to the library, I'd probably try and stay there till late... Grrrumble... or till I got hungry.
The library was not particularly decorated, just a brick building amongst other brick buildings. I marched up its stone stairs through the glass door, and started to look for whatever related to the crown, the museum, and to security systems. This could take a while... I really hope I'm going to find something.
I folded the parchment and threw my cloak on. I was being brought to some crime scene because of my specialty with "Certain apsects of magic" as the letter so read. I was what some people call a "Shadow shifter". We don't use the element shadow directly often however, rather we use it to reflect something else (its slightly complicated). Soon i was just outside the museum where i met some goverment official, he beckoned me in to the crime scene and explained the situation. Must be one valuable crown I thought to myself. I examined the glass case. A good sized hole was embeded in the side and the crown was gone. Many objects were missing from the scene, probably carried away by police for evidence. I asked the officer a couple questions, however i was primarly interested in the security forces. They were from a private security company, and one had been absent of the day of the crime (yesterday unless i'm mistaken). I turned my attention back to the case and stretched out with my senses. I closed my eyes and cleared my mind, setting a side sight, smell, touch, and the noises that echoed aruond me. Slowly the world took form, though my eyes were closed. I felt the heart beats of the people around me. However, there was a faint pulse...pulsing...echhoing away down the halls. I sat there fealing the pulse. It got stronger...then weaker...then stronger. The the pulsing stopped and there was a low hummm. I wasn't sure what it was, but i had to investigate. It could be simply anouther magic user messing with magic, but i had to be sure. I stretched out and began to follow the silent signal to its source. Echo...echo...the humming dances around me like fire spreading. It was difficult to follow, but i could manage. It was thumping now, and the echos were loud and hard, like the beating of a drum. And then...There was a loud BANG...i was confused completely, thinking that it was a noise from the real worled. I quickly shifted back but everything was fine and the officers were just standing there. When i shifted back the magic trace was gone. I quitly cursed to myself.
BUZZZ BUZZZZ BUZZZZ I woke up in annoyance of my alarm clock. "I hate that thing" I stared at it kinda funny, I picked up my scepter. "dinitimos" I said pointing my scepter at my alarms clock. Suddely it exploded. "ha take that you stupid alarm clock!" WHile I was cleaning up the ash from the explosion the doorbell rang "coming" when I opened the door there was no one there. On my doormat there was a rolled up peice of paper. " this is good...very good...lets solve a mystery."I said reading it. I ran to my closet to get dressed. I looked in the mirror, made a funny face, and blue ditective outfit popped on to me. "perfect" I slipped on my boots, put on my bracelets, and shined my scepter, then headed out the door.
