I had to make this thread after the cartoon one. >> Bleh. I watched Naruto for about 3 episodes and gave up on it. It just wasn't... ... entertaining. It seems they focused more on action and fighting then a plot line or humor/entertainment. Every eppisode I watched out of the three was pretty much witty banter, fight, win. Witty banter, fight, win. It got boring, ya know? And you have to watch the first one to get the second one because it goes in order and it's annoying since I started watching it in the middle of the whole show! D: I watched One Piece too and it was the same. Now, I don't hate 4Kids either like most Anime watchers. Sure, in some they did start off being racist by erasing all african-americans and turning them white, but they stopped and I think it's better off without the violence. You can watch it just fine without the blood, drugs, smoking, alchohol, nudity, swearing and all that other stuff included. That is probably why I stuck to cartoons. >> In other words, anime=nay in my book.

I, personally, really enjoy anime. I've been watching it since Voltron and Speed Racer back in the day. XD
I really think its interesting, and I much prefer it over most American animation (Baring a few like good ones, mostly old like Invader Zim, Doug, and a few other ok ones like the newer Justic League cartoons). I love the art style, I love the crazy humon in the less serious ones. I enjoy the action and storyline in the more serious ones, and I really enjoy the whole Japanese culture as a whole. As for Naruto, its one of my favorites. Dattebayo! TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! !

I do enjoy Japanese Animation to a high extent.
My favorites would have to be the Getbackers, Samurai X, Angelic Layer, and Peace-maker Kuragome ^^. Not that popular Anime, but they are still VERY well made in my opinion.

I do enjoy some stuff, others, I hate with a passion. I really like Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X included), Case Closed, Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, and Akira (if an anime movie counts). The anime shows I really don't like are One Piece and Naruto. Sue me! XD

When someone says "Ninja", I pretty much zone out almost immediately.
I mean, it seems every single TV show has something to do with ninjas. It gets annoying after a while of hearing about it. And pirates. And pirate-ninjas. And spy-ninjas. And more ninjas. And turtle-ninjas. And magic-ninjas. And more ninjas. :<

Its just something I grew up around, so yeah, I like it.
My favorites are Card Captor Sakura, Trigun, Samurai X, and Samurai 7 (though I almost never get to watch it, it's like invisible. Also, it seems like it's based on an old movie from the 50's with the same name)

See now, when you state the name of Anime; it all comes to depend on a few fine lines that really break up the whole fandom. Most of which can be found within the use of, "Is it American dubbed", for youthful audiences, or for the more mature. These little tidbits can amount for a lot in the strain of things, especially when you are trying to find a good show that revolves around some anime type of setting. A lot of animes lately have found themselves lacking in any field of proper excitment, to many of them use cliche lines to continue their fandom. They all feel and seem like their older brethren without to many changes. Sure, the hero might be a girl or a boy; but they all seem to be fighting for some super huge human power. Each with the want to gain revenge for some lost family, or item of the past that was stolen from their grips. It never alters itself, it's always on the same path. That is of course, depending upon where and how you watch anime. Many anime movies can actually be quite entertaining, depending upon it's audience and means. Films such as "Graveyard of the Fireflies" are very touching, even with there ties to Japanese culture. They hit upon a very large message, sort of touching very deeply within the meaning of war and the damage it causes. You would never think something animated within anime could do the likes of that, but they can, when directed by someone note-worthy. Then, you have your stereotypical pieces such as Dragonball Z, Naruto, and all in the same area. Now, there is nothing completly wrong with them besides that they all feel the same. They are very chilidish in their motives, and hardly open any doors of large thought. Though, they are captivating little stories to follow, things that can keep you engaged if only by the sheer amusement.
One sort display of Anime can be found, as likely mentioned, on a channel we like to call 4Kids. As much as we fear to utter these words, it must be stated in order to be justified. This channel was established with the means to capture the hearts of a young audience. At one time, they carried quite good shows. Things such as Digimon, and more popular open titles; then, as they began to age, certain animes wound their way onto the channel. Of course, these animes did not keep their same identity; they had been dubbed and drowned out by Americanization. They were created to fit our children and give them nothing but smiles. Even corny little raps were added to their main titles and openings. In a way, these animes only go to show the downside of our society. Their influence on kingdoms such as rap, is only one of their methods. They hit at such a "popular" level with the "young'uns" though. As to why and how, we fail to understand, we just nod and move forward. Of course, there is nothing wrong with anyone who watches this channel. At times, it can be very intriguing to see what a diffrent show has to offer. It's just, by opinion, the undubbed and original versions of "One Piece" and the likes, are much better than there remakes. This is likely due to how we as Americans must moralize everything, putting it into our Christian doctrine. To raise our youth on very acceptable means, and not just that alone. Of course these channels want money, and what better way than to appeal to what the children crave. Then again though, it should be noted that as we all mature we start to see changes we didn't when we were younger. Who knows, perhaps our own children will see the same as they start to get older.
Mature Animes on the other hand have a lot to offer. What is meant by the "title" mature, does not exactly debate on the definition of "not suitable for younger viewing". It is just stated in the means that, these animes are formed on very strong stories. They aren't easy to follow unless you understand the nature of humans as they are. You actually have to watch each episode to catch what's going on, and you can't miss a second. Things such as "Paranoia Agent" really caught this taste of the wild side. This show went to challange our minds, making us wonder what was becoming diffrent in the passing of time. It was like a mystery, where everyone was involved, and you constantly wondered what was going to happen next. Other popular shows, like "FLCL" were not adored for their use of story. It was plainly the obnoxious craziness and confusion that kept our eyes attatched. We may have not completly understood the plot, but the use of so much interaction kept our hands away from the remote. These are the true animes, the pieces that represent art let alone culture.

For me, yes anime is good. But manga is better. My favorties are Naruto, One Piece, Fruits Basket, xxxHOLiC and Bleach.
The thing is some animes aren't funny, about fighting and scattered is because of several reasons so listen up 'cause I've got a lot to say. Most animes like Full-Metal Alchemist, Naruto and other main ones were directed toward an older audience, just look at the TV ratings. The higher the rating the less comedy may be in it. Most American shows were aimed at the Y7 age group thus it is more funny. Also most shows that are mainstream such as the ones I named are classified as Shonen, anime and manga for boys which are mostly fighting, something to do with occult and sometimes a little serious. Another type, Shojo, manga and anime for girls, is a lot more about romance, a little more hummorus and focuses more on the storyline. Such examples of Shojo are Fruits Basket, Tokyo Mew Mew and Super GALS. The reason why anime episodes are so scattered is all anime start as manga and all the chapters are bundled in chapters in one volume so you didn't miss a "episode" but with anime they can only fit so much into 30 mintues they can't possibly fit all you see in the manga into one show.
Of course what I said might not apply to all animes but this covers most of it. Sorry for chewing your ears of with this long post. LEVEL UP ! !
