Whenever you plan your character's(Or Characters') look, do you write/draw them on a separate sheet to plan out his or her look to get ready to draw the real thing?
I do this every once in a while, if it's needed. It helps out a lot though...
Do you do the same?

All my characters were developed right on the spot, no thinking, just adding. I draw a basic body shape, draw what it would look like, and then add shapes and colors. Tadda. It's a character. If I like the idea I may think of a few add-ons though. Like Orange Juice was meant to be a fuzzy lizard, but after I drew him I thought, what the heck, and added ears and got rid of the claws. Gem was orginally a normal lizard, but the 'hair' (veil, frill, ect.) made her look like a Veiled Chameleon, which I've come to adore. Marko was another chameleon, but the 'veil' was placed to high, giving it a shark's appearance, so I added gills. A lot of my characters are accidents turned into something more, or just drawn on paper, but they do stick in my mind, just afterword.

I think of the character, then sketch it later. And then comes all the revamping, add-ons, and picky details, if I want. And yeah, that's pretty much happened to any character I've made, so I picked the first choice.
There's never a "real thing" when it comes to me making any picture. If I like the sketch, I complete it. If I don't, it faces the fate of piling up on my bedroom floor. =P

Anyways, they usually just start out as a normal "whatever" and change over time. Like myself, heheh. And there was Charon and Kyrel that developed like that. Otherwise, I just come up with characters nearly on the spot. I keep most ideas in my mind for later, though.

I usually base my characters off my own personalties, Honky Tonk Yoshi is mainly based off the happier peaceful side of my, Hyper lad's more of my hyper and wittier side, and so on and so forth,so basically each of my characters represent one my emotions and or intrsets. Do I plan em out? hmmm, usually I have alot of old sketches of my characters as I've built up on what they would finally look like, but certain ones just pop into my head.

My characters have been gradually added to. Twi is over a year old (July) and started off as a nice happy light blue yoshi for about 3 days and slowly got eviler and more unique (no pupils, claw). The appearence for all my characters are just an initial idea which I draw then just add stuff onto it (the other Twilights for example). But I don't plan it out on a seperate piece of paper. Again with the background story, that's gotten HUGE now thanks to RPing and random gibbering with Sky (YW), Toshi and Gar.

It depends for me, if i decide that an update to my characters looks is necessary, i just whip out my pencil and paper and sketch out anything that comes to mind.
However, i don't completely scrap the old self, i keep the original appearances (for example, Toshi's tattoo and boots, blue skin and his wrist bands), i just add new things to the character. Same applies for my other 5 characters.
The background stories for each i have not decided upon, i did some descriptions to how the characters came about to be a part of their yoshi band, but nothing else. Although in saying that, i did one for Toshi, but i think it's a sucky one to be honest, so may rewrite it out sometime in the future, or just scrap it and keep their stories a mystery? I dunno, we'll see.

I usually make up characters on the spot. If I actually decide to plan ahead for a drawing, I end to changing it... >_> Well, if it's a plot behind a character. I usually don't thinkg of it since I don't participate in many roleplays.. Most of my characters are based of sides of me or people around me though. Most of my started sketches are the circle of the head, eye guidelines, perhaps a body posture, then I lose inspiration and stuff it into my many drawers. ;;

I used to draw my characters and then add on attachments and accessories after the drawing became near to completion.
Recently however, I would just make the characters in my mind, and have Angela draw them XD.
