I just got done playing Yoshi's Island DS! Whoo.
Anyway, I must say that my favorite baby to use is Baby DK. Reason is that I can perform a buttload of fun technicalities with him, and if you abuse the DK charge while trekking across the level, it makes you look super cool like you know what you're doing!
First things first is that you can perform something I call the "Rare Jump." Originating in Donkey Kong Country, you roll off an edge, and then do a second jump in midair (I honestly have no idea how they even thought of that). That kind of maneuver branched out in other Rare games as well, such as Banjo-Kazooie. In Yoshi's Island DS, you can charge off a ledge, and then jump in midair. It really gets you places farther than normal, as well as giving you that extra umph that can make you jump fast. It's also very handy because you can avoid enemies or obstacles that are floating above your head over the gap you have to jump across.
But what's really fun is that I found a strange method on how to "wavedash" in that game with DK. What you do is that you must face a slight uphill slope within the end of dashing distance. Dash, but keep holding down. The moment you hit the beginning of the slope, hit the jump button (while holding down), and you'll end up sliding really fast in a crouching position. That's when you can do the charge again and go really fast.
Also, you can perform this neat little trick over mild bumps in the ground, and if timed correctly, you will be sliding very far in a crouching position. Loads of fun.
How did I find this all out? I don't even know.
