Why couldn't you just physically put in a limitation in the code? That would solve all of these problems.

I don't even know if ProBoards supports that kind of feature as far as we know, but in the mean time, it would be appreciated if you could keep your signature image within the size limits. Thanks.

It probably wouldn't work unless the signature image were uploaded somewhat like an avatar would be. Problem is, there isn't really much of a way for the server to tell what size the image is when it's coming from a different source. And then you have things like PHP scripts that spit out image files whenever requested from their server, often used for stuff like random images. It means that every time the forum page loads, what appears to be a reference to a single image is actually one of many images that can vary in filesize and dimensions.
It just isn't something that you can easily regulate. You kinda need to remove large images by hand.
