Ya i know what you are thinking what in the world is wrong with this world. What is that, who made etc. [glow=red,2,300] [/glow] Well guess what it im making a game called yoshi chao or some thing like that still working on the name. Well you are this chao that is also part yoshi. You can spit fire balls lick eat and jump mabey lay eggs and more. I need a story Also i need enemys well i just started yesterday and preety much all you can do now is walk and jump. Heres a screen shot It is barley even started keep that in mind

there are 2 major things in RPGs and 1 major thing in arcrade games
RPG 1. A good plot/storyline 2. Interesting and fun gamplay elements
Arcade 1. Fun gameplay
I recommend you think at the players persperctive. Make enemies that are fun to fight. Make bosses that are challenging but not too challenging. The player might just give up if it's to hard. Allways have a charecter this people think are 'cool' or 'fun to play with'. Your chao is pretty cool but make shure that players don't ge bored of him. Adding abilites over time keeps the players having fun with the charecters. Take metroid games for example. you gain better ( and cooler and funner to use) wepons as you proggress. This gives the player to look forward to something. Storyline is a key element to. Keep the player wanting to find out what happens. (Suspencful is a good way to go and maybe throw in a twist about halfway or near the end). Anouther thing you need to make shure you do is NOT EVER make it repetative. This makes the player bored. Put in lost of action. Make the player wanting more. And finnaly, don't make it to short or to long. If it's to long players might get bored if it's to short there be done with it to soon. So there ya go, my advisment to your game.

...And that was Captain obvious with the ever helpful comment "make it fun to play."
If you're going for a platformer, then there are two general stories that, while sounding simple, can be complex and thrilling if they're worked enough:
1. Something both bad and inexplicable is happening (racial tension is being fired up across YI, all the power is out, the melon supply is drained, it's snowing in the tropics, Pokemon still has fans, red yoshies under The Chairman are communizng all the fruit trees), and a lot of people are very troubled by it. The player must track the phenomenon to its source, and stop it
2. Somebody needs a dingus (to fulfill a prophecy, heal the monarch, prevent a war, cure a disease, make an accessory for the drapes). The player must find a dingus. Often an old dingus, a mysterious dingus, and a powerful dingus. The player must track it down and deal with taking it from wherever it is.
Enemies can range from what's found on Yoshies Island to wherever Chaos come from. The bosses can be more original, based on the nature of the story.

That could be an objective in a few levels. Or if the Chao finds and eats a certain fruit he gets a new ability, so he could start out with nothing and grow in ability as the game goes on ;D

The Yoshi-Chao thing looks good, but the grass and dirt might need some work. My brother made a sort-of 3D game and it's on the Internet. He made it with Game-Maker. THe unregistered version is free, so look it up if you want to make a game. There are no viruses. I promise you. When I first looked up this topic, I thought it was something where Yoshis and Chao co-existed together...I didn't know you were making a hybrid! Well, perhaps this dude has Chao stats-Power, Fly, Swim, Run, Stamina-and maybe, as those stats grow, you can access more places. You might even be able to augment that system into a RPG...
