What is your favourite genre of music? Personally, I like Jazz and some Rock. It seems people are of today are leaning towards really heavy metal kind of music. Perhaps just teenagers, I don't know.
Your thoughts?

Anything with a good guitar riff is good enough for me. I enjoy today's New Metal along with some Pop Rock and similar.
About teenagers and heavy metal? That's probably a teenager thing, you find a lot of youngsters these days walking around with hooded tops with their favourite bands (Most common being Slipknot and Metallica). They're not even proper "rock" enthusiasts, they're just kids starting to like the music, and think that wearing such tops make them awesome.

I enjoy a lot of alternative rock and heavy metal most of the time. Classical music is also one of my favorites.

I actually don't have a favorite genre.
But I really do like me some synth-rock.

I like music I can write to, usually without vocals unless they harmonize with the music and don't overpower the instrumental parts. Among my favorite genres, there are: Traditional Folk, New Age, Jazz, Ska when I'm feeling hyper, and Super Oldies; you know, the music that was around when the radio was at the pinnacle of entertainment and it always had that slightly muffled effect (Think Fallout 3's music that played on the Pip-Boy radio). I especially like music that implements ambiance. Dan Gibson is probably my favorite artist that does this sort of thing. You can listen to a sample of one my favorites composed by him here: www.pandora.com/music/song/dan+gibson/cool+forest+rain (retarded link...just copy and paste it ) I used to despise music, for one reason or another. I think it was mainly because my peers were always listening to their music and trying to get me into it, but I was never big on boy bands or any of that other Disney Channel hootenanny. In a time when I cared what people thought, I find it funny that the only thing I didn't care about was what music they listened to. But, now, music is an important part of my everyday life.

I like video game music for an unknown reason and anything but rap and heavy metal. Oh, and I hate it when they just scream the music out. Screaming is not music!! "What should we do for the middle part?" "Oh just scream something that has to do with the topic." Stop. Your not a talented singer by screaming.

Your not a talented singer by screaming. At least it's not like the "wailers". By wailers, I mean singers like Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis who wail through every note in the scale, and it lasts for, like, 2 minutes. A cat can pull that one off.

And screaming isn't all that bad.... as long as it isn't the entire song... then it annoys me. If it's a small portion, then I can deal with it. But if the song's chords are awful, then I'll throw it out.

While on the subject of talent.
Which genre do you think shows the greatest talent? I'm being biased here and I'm saying Rock, in general.
Now you look at Rock. You have four musicians. A singer, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. They combine their talent to make music. They may not write it, but you look at the likes of David Grohl (Foo Fighters front man). He writes, sings and plays guitar, and has also been drummer for Queens of the Stone Age, as well as Nirvana. Then there's Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Despite having a band, he still plays every part of the music. Guitar, Drums, Vocals, Bass, Keyboard, everything. It's truly remarkable how they are able to grasp so much musical talent.

Yeah, I think rock shows the greatest talent as well. For the very same reasons you're giving. Plus, if you pay a little attention to them on concerts too, you can see they're (usually) giving it their all as well. Not that musicians from other genre's don't give it their all, but when I was at a concert a whole while back, I could surely make out that it were the rock bands who were trying the hardest.
Also, my favourite genre's are Trance, Techno, and well, Rock too. I like basically anything with a good melody in it- hard or soft music- but these are definetely my favourite genres.

My favorite genre.. I wouldn't know.
As long as it has a good back up instrumental or beat, it's all good with me. I can take a bit of screamer and rap if there's a good beat or decent lyrics. A capella is great too. Though I think the only thing I don't particularly like is Opera.

To reply to Toshi (and also because Digi touched on it), A Cappella music is probably the hardest to pull off just based off of my own personal experience. All of the singers need to be very talented and also able to manipulate their voice to make the sounds of instruments or blend with the other group members, and it's so touchy that you will hardly ever find a perfect performance recording. Each voice acts and feels different each day due to sickness or mood or whatever. Also, the voice is much more difficult to control pitch-wise, while with a guitar or piano, the notes are already tuned and won't fall flat or go sharp. But then again, I am biased to say A Cappella is the hardest.
However, I will agree that there is an immense amount of talent out there in the rock world, and that's what makes it so great and such a favorite in the first place.
