Screamo music. Local screamo music, actually.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for shady underground screamo parties.
Otherwise I'll listen to anything if I like the lyrics. All about the lyrics, man.

"I have a personal, a real obsession, with melody and harmony. I can really never get enough of that kind of thing." - John Linnell (They Might Be Giants) That sums up pretty well how I feel about music--- what really bowls me over is a masterfully crafted and beautifully harmonized melody. The Beatles are my favorite band of all time ... and I would probably name TMBG second in the songwriting category. So I listen to a lot of rock music--- the kind that remains melodic. By strict definitions, most of it is a form of pop rock because of this. I really dig originality as well. My tastes also venture into classical and electronica, as long as I can sing along.

My music preferences vary greatly. Sometimes I chill to celtic music, others I groove to hits from Castlevania (Bloody Tears is my soul). Chiptunes, instrumentals, gothic industrial rock & roll... as long as it isn't western rap, bluegrass, or latin I'm fine with it.

Opps, hope y'all don't mind I bump this up!
I dunno, it's hard for me to pin what genres I like most. I guess you could check my Last.fm account in my signature and come up with something yourself.
Most would probably say I like that "hipster stuff," though. Indie rock, indiepop, experimental, psychedelic, post-rock, fun stuff like that. And I'm just barely getting my feet wet in hardcore electronic, thanks to an acquaintance of mine who produces his own tracks. I'm also getting into Pendulum a bit, but I dunno if Drum N' Bass is considered "hardcore"
But, honestly, I can listen to just about anything, so long as I find the beat and melody catchy. There is such a thing as "good" hip-hop!

It took me a long time to finally come into some music I liked -- I distinctly remember that when I was a kid, I just told people that I simply 'didn't like music' much at all -- but as far as I ever knew, in my lil' backwater town, 'music' meant Blink 182, Limp Bizkit, Ricky Martin -- you know, average 1995-2000 radio-hit fare. It wasn't 'till extensive internet time that I found so many new genres that I didn't even know existed, let alone anything someone would like so much~ Like Chiptune. I was always a big fan of video game music, even when I wasn't really aware of it -- I think because it was like classical music in the regard that the tone and emotion had to be forced entirely through the song's melody, rather than lyrics. It wasn't 'till further on that I realized I liked the sounds themselves on top of that quality -- the blips'n bleeps, the harsh, powerful tones and waves that distinctify old computers and video game consoles... First time I ever really heard a song that was made to meet this end, rather than out of necessity, was "Funky Stars" by Quazar of Sanxion: webzoom.freewebs.com/graedius/Hybrid%20Song.mp3 -- a very famous Chiptune indeed. I was quite transfixed by it, listened to it over and over again -- never heard anything quite like it. I was amazed to find that such a genre even existed, and yet so much of it! Now I have an undying hunger for more -- and perhaps the knowledge to make it myself! I'm also a big fan of numerous electronic genres, such a trance, Happy Hardcore, industrial, and all sorts of other crazy genres who's names or differences I am still far too newbish to even quite understand or identify~ But the best is when Chiptune gets mixed into 'em, and you get crazy awesome stuff like this: webzoom.freewebs.com/graedius/01%20Storm%20World.mp3 ...I don't even know what quite to call that -- possibly Euphoric. < 3 tl;drChiptune is my antidrug. If anyone's interested in anything more, I'm your go-to guy.

When I was younger, I used to only listen to 70's and 80's rock music, since my mom would always have the "oldies" radio station on. I remember being completely convinced that music was all about finding/being in love. But eventually I came around to listening to today's rock music and loved it. Rock is my favorite, but I'm very open to all kinds. My favorite band is Disturbed, with my favorite songs by them being Guarded and Haunted. Here's a few things that make songs for me: 1. Lyrics - Most of the time it has to have lyrics, because I love to sing along. If I can't sing to it, I lose interest. Not to say that the song is bad or that I don't like it, but it has high potential to be skipped in my playlist. 2. Voice - If I don't like the sound of the person's voice, I don't like the song. Of course, there may be another verison of the song by someone else that I do like. 3. Story - I like songs that tell a story. The story doesn't have to be an obvious or specific one, like "I walked down the street and such and such happened," (which is mostly what country is, from what I've seen). I prefer it when it isn't obvious so I can give it my own personal meanings without worrying what the artist was intending. This most of the time leads me to not enjoy rap since I can't relate very well, though I won't say all rap is bad. I'm just very picky. I don't know about musical talent, I don't normally look very hard into the bands themselves. All that matters to me is the music. One thing that will infinitely bother me about music is when the singer says "choo" instead of "you."
